The story keeps the reader fully engaged the entire time with well developed characters and awesome discriptions of battles in space. The story is spread over a long time period with key characters holding the time line together very well. I can hardly wait for another installment who knows how it may end?

I loved this book. The characters are well developed and the book ties in well with mini Moon Wreck series that I read first. I look forward to reading Book Two of the Slaver Wars series. I as m a space buff so thanks Mr. Well for entertaining me.
The Mote in God's Eye :: Embracing My Submission (The Doms Of Genesis Book 1) :: Elicit: Dark Romance (Decadence After Dark Book 5) :: Leap of the Lion (The Wild Hunt Legacy Book 4) :: Return from the Ringworld (Fleet of Worlds series Book 5)

Even better than the first book this story is very compelling and fun to read. Writing is good, not great, but the plot and the characters really make it a fast page turner. Just ordered book 3 and 4. I am hooked on this series...

The Slaver Wars - Alien Contact, not to be confused with First Contact, takes the reader back to the height of the human federation and tells the story of it's downfall. As with all previous books another annoying trait comes makes it's presence known. And knowing is the issue. When Weir wants to tell the reader something a character knows it. As in, Bob knew that the battlecruiser was a 2000-meter long ship. Or "he knew that even an FTL message would take a full day to reach the home system." Again, Weir is telling the reader things and never showing them. It gets old quick.

The writing is sophomoric, the character development is simply painful and yet for some reason I was drawn in. Yes I am ashamed to admit I have read books 1-5. Bad writing good story, I continued reading each book hoping that the author is going to take a few writing classes in between. Each character remains flat and one dimensional. All we know about them is one or two things and these things are repeated ad-nauseum throughout each book. Each Character that we want to like becomes some kind of repetitive hero zombie who either misses his sister or can't wait to fight the alien invaders. When I finished First Contact I felt as if I should be getting a refund. Instead I continued to purchase book after book like a helpless crack addict. This "Space Opera" as some might call it is like watching reality television. It is entertaining, not great writing. It's like watching reruns of the Bachelor. You know it godawful writing or in the Bachelors case godawful TV but we can't pull ourselves away. Like watching a train wreck! God help me though! I continue to inflict it on myself and continue to line Mr Weil's pockets. I need help!

I'm pretty sure the author watched the series. This particular book takes you pretty much to the point where the books equivalent of the colonials (Battlestar speak) find earth. It will be interesting to see where the author takes it
Decent character development, the characters are a little two dimensional but all in all a decent read.

OK, you've gotten me completely hooked on the trilogy. Please let me know when the next book is available please. Extremely good story line. I read the Slaver Alien Contact before the novelettes and it just made me want to read more. Looking forward to more in Book 2. If possible please let me know when it's available on the store as I live in Asia and it's very hard to come by an English book store. Your an excellent writer and truly hope you follow the story line as each book has left me in disappointment it was finished. Now I have nothing to do but wait. Ahhhhh, you've left me in suspense as I'm really curious as to how the new arrivals will intigrate with earth and the culture there. What a great imagination you have and you've gained a new follower. Please keep up the great writing.

Like the story and the plot. But the author repeats information, not once or twice but 8 to 10 times. It's like a high school report where you throw in the same lines in order to make your word count for a theme paper

I've bought dozens of these inexpensive kindle books. Some are great reads and some not so much... This was one of the good ones. If you enjoy space opera, you'll like this one. It's a little slow at the start, but ends up being very satisfying. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!

All the elements of space opera are there: fleets of warships, alien contact, desperate battles. The big negative is the unsophisticated descriptions of the several major players as they go about their lives on their ships and with their families on planet, and incredibly wooden dialog. I found myself skipping over all that like crazy waiting for something to happen. The space battles are OK, but again are simple -- the author seems to be making it up as he goes along with regard to weapons and tactics.
I wish I could be more positive but I won't be going for the companion books, even if they are free on Kindle.

Fun, interesting read. I immediately read the novella series (Moon Wreck) by the same author and enjoyed these. His new novel (The Slaver Wars: Fleet Academy) is now available and I will be reading it soon.

Just finished the book, Kinda of knew the humans came from Earth as Earth was never mentioned until the last chapter, but it wasn't apparent until the book turned towards the home system and Earth wasn't mentioned, As a fan of BSG, I found the book very likable.

Pretty poor. This series lost steam ages ago. What started as a good idea has deteriorated into a hackneyed unoriginal yarn. The characters are so poorly developed that you can read the story without remembering their names as they have no relevance to the thin plot.
The technology is poorly explained making it seem like magic.
No consequence on the lack of or presence of gravity being the most glaring example.
Not sure if this series is actually meant to be read by children.

Well thought out characters, with good by play. being on book 3 I am quite curious to see where this leads. I would have given this 5 stars but to much information missing about the federation people and what happened between books 2&3..
