I really enjoyed this book - read it and finished it the same day I received it. Of course, I will be re-reading it as it contains very uplifting, positive and helpful information...practical tips than anyone can incorporate into daily living. These two amazing women have proven that it works simply by living their own lives and being compelled to help others to be happier in living theirs.

This book is full of genuine experience that really gave me a lift when I needed it. I felt at peace and comforted by the stories. The positive affirmations are a blessing for anyone who wants to feel better about themselves and life. I thank Louise & Cheryl for their loving, healing methods and affirmations.

I purchased several copies so I would have them for holiday gifts. I know many people right now who need a lift.

WHEN I FIRST STARTED READING THIS BOOK, I THOUGHT - THIS IS NOT GOING TO WORK, BUT, I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY, I WAS GOING TO PROVE THE WRITERS WRONG, LOL, AND I HAVE TO TELL YOU, I WAS COMPLETELY FLABERGASTED WHEN I DID THE EXERCISES AND MY LIFE CHANGED DRASTICALLY. I WAS DOING THE MIRROR WORK AND AT FIRST I FELT FUNNY, BUT, EVENTUALLY, I STARTED BELIEVING THE WORDS, LOOKING INTO MY OWN EYES HAS A TREMENDOUS EFFECT, IN JUST A VERY SHORT TIME I GOT THE JOB OF A LIFETIME WITH BENEFITS, 401k, AND MANY OTHER WONDERFUL PERKS, IN THIS ECONOMY I THOUGH, NEVER, NEVER WOULD I GET A GREAT JOB. THAT THOUGHT HELD ME BACK, I USED THE TECHNIQUES IN THIS BOOK, STARTED CHANGING MY THOUGHT PATTERS BY CHOICE AND MIRACLES STARTED HAPPENING. TODAY I LOVE MYSELF AND I FORGIVE MYSELF, WHICH IN TURN ENABLES ME TO LOVE YOU ABD FORGIVE YOU AND TRUST YOU... WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK!!!

This book contains positive thoughts for helping one become more aware of that process. I wrote many of these in my journal so I can read them daily and use these thoughts to replace worrisome, negative thinking.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book! Of the 100+ books which I have reviewed here, this is now one of my top five. (I review only the best of the best books that I read, so top five among that elite group is an honor.) This gem is a pleasure to read, while being profound in a simple way. I so believe this can be a life changer for people that I just ordered twenty copies which I will be distributing as a holiday gift to family, friends and colleagues.

Full disclosure, I am a big fan of each of the co-authors. Louise Hay is an extraordinary lady whose leadership in the personal development world and in the business world (she is the founder and matriarch of Hay House which is such a force for good in this world) has long been a role model for me. Cheryl Richardson is equally extraordinary, having been instrumental in the development of the coaching world as we know it today. Cheryl is also a great questioner (one of many reasons she was such a standout when she did personal coaching) and a superb storyteller, two strengths she used well in creating this delightful inquiry into the philosophies and attitudes that have shaped Louise's life.

In an era where so many authors (and speakers) seem to feel they need to be in our face to effect change, I found the compassionate tone of this book to be a welcome relief. The book is written in a style where one feels that two good friends graced us with a chance to hear their private reminiscing of lives well lived. Not always easy lives, but - nevertheless - lives well lived.

But, it is the wisdom in the book that I most appreciate. Long time fans of Louise will quickly recognize the consistency to her other writings about her strong belief that we are masters of our destiny... that our thinking shapes our world. As said in the book "In our purest, most positive state of mind, we are powerful creators of our very best lives."Cheryl does a wonderful job of probing as to how Louise manages to keep the right thoughts consistently front and center, especially in a world where negative messaging is so pervasive.

The style of the writing and shortness of the book (151 5X7"pages) will likely have your devouring this gem in a couple of hours. And, you will undoubtedly like what you have devoured. But, the real value of this book is when you go back and start savoring the wisdom, in each and every page. Therein lies the opportunity for this book to be a catalyst for deep and meaningful change that can make this gem truly a life changer, for you (and for me). Happy savoring!

You Can Create an Exceptional Life is an interview of self-help guru Louise Hay by one of her students, Cheryl Richardson. It's a very quick read, and while it doesn't have anything new that hasn't been told by people from Wayne Dyer to The Secret to Napoleon Hill, it is a very uplifting book that has improved my life just in the time I've been reading it.

This book is based on affirmations. Those of you old enough may remember the old Saturday Night Live character Stewart Smalley (I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh-darn it, people like me...). This book reminds me of him, including the mirror work that Louise recommends. And yet as corny as it sounds, it works.

The authors touch briefly on why it works, but don't really get into the zero-point field and quantum physics behind why affirmations and putting positive energy into the universe works. Reading this book you basically have to take it on faith that it does work, and it takes practice.

What I really like about this book is that it is a simple, easy read that is a reminder of what I need to do to improve my mindset. Most of us have heard "Change your thoughts, change your life," but sometimes that's easier said than done. This book lays out specific affirmations for every part of your day. It's very easy to add one or two, get used to doing them, then add in more. I really like the morning affirmations to start my day out right. I've never thought of thanking my bed and blankets for being so comfortable, but it's a new habit that I'm enjoying and it starts me off in a great mood.

At the end of the book, they put all the affirmations in the different categories so that you don't have to dig for them. The categories are:

For Healing
When You First Wake Up and Open Your Eyes
Looking in the Bathroom Mirror
In the Shower
Using the Bathroom
Getting Dressed
In the Kitchen
During Meals
When Driving
Throughout the Day
At Work
When Arriving Back Home
To Support Health and Loving the Body
When Facing Difficulties
For Prosperity
To Prepare for the End of Life

Louise Hay is very inspirational, and has turned her life around from a bad beginning. She's shown what can be accomplished with a positive mental attitude and mindset, and she makes it sound so easy. I have started with the morning affirmations, and plan to include more once I've been doing those for a week. I've even started my young children with affirmations (based on the advice in this book), and feel like it's a good way to give them a healthy start. I now plan to let my office assistant read this book to help make our work place more positive.

I highly recommend reading this every few months as a refresher, even if you've read a lot about affirmations and the law of attraction.

இ Fuzzy Wuzzy's Summary:
ѾѾѾѾ Recommended with warm fuzzies.

Prior to reading this small 162-page book, I previously also read other Louise Hay books, including her excellent book You Can Heal Your Life (Gift Edition), and the one Cheryl Richardson book that I previously read was The Unmistakable Touch of Grace: How to Recognize and Respond to the Spiritual Signposts in Your Life. Both of these are great books that I highly recommend to others. And so I was really looking forward to this collaboration between the two authors.

This book reads like a personal journal written by Cheryl as she proceeds to interview Louise throughout the book, gleaning various bits and pieces of wisdom that Louise offers about how she lives her own life. Various aspects of Louise's great life story are related, and the overlapping themes of the law of attraction, staying positive and thinking good thoughts, approaching each new day as a glorious fresh new start and joyous adventure, starting each day with self-fulfilling affirmations, and continuing those affirmations throughout each day to create positive energy are key concepts that Louise emphasizes to Cheryl throughout the book. The book winds down with ruminations on growing old and dying. All of the positive affirmations that are mentioned in the book are conveniently listed all together again at the end of the book.

The one main reason why I rate this book 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that, having read Louise's books before, this book was slightly underwhelming for me. I felt like I was nibbling on tasty appetizer morsels and nuggets, and while I was still hungry, the plate became empty and there was no other main course entree brought to the table. If you have never read Louise Hay before, perhaps this small appetizer book will convince you to read her "You Can Heal Your Life" book, which I think is a much more sumptuous feast of her wisdom. Or just bypass this book altogether, and go directly to Louise Hay's "You Can Heal Your Life" book. With this book's title of "You Can Create An Exceptional Life", you may be disappointed to realize that this not your usual self-help "how-to" cookbook. It is unfortunate that this book panders to marketing tactics with its exuberant title because, frankly, many readers need much more substance to "create an exceptional life" than what Cheryl offers in this book by observing how Louise lives and thinks. While it is true that there is power in positive thinking, creating an exceptional life goes farrrrr beyond just repetitively babbling affirmations to oneself. As mentioned, this book is written as if Cheryl was the sole scribe, and it has a very conversational style to it, almost as if she was making daily entries into her own personal journal. You may either like this approach or you may think that all of her writing feels trite, artificial, and contrived. I disliked this writing style because I felt that it sounded really contrived and it padded the book with much more wording than was needed.

Note that the store currently incorrectly lists this hardcover book's length as: "192 pages". But it really is only 164 pages. The 164 pages in this book are also a bit misleading because this book could have easily been even smaller and fewer in pages if much of the various "I met Louise for lunch" and "Louise was dressed nice as usual" banter and filler material like descriptions of living room decor was culled out. If I was this book's editor, I would have cranked up the tempo and pace of this book by stripping out much of its fluff.

Overall, this was a nice and very quick read for me. I almost wanted to rate this book 3 stars instead of 4 stars. But I liked what Louise had to say in this book; I just disliked how it was written.

If you have never read Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life's Greatest Lesson, I HIGHLY recommend that book! Even though this book is 164 pages in length (and not the erroneously advertised 192 pages), "Tuesdays with Morrie" truly is 192 pages, even though both books are very similar in size. I compare this "You Can Create An Exceptional Life" book with "Tuesdays with Morrie" because in both books, the authors (Cheryl Richardson and Mitch Albom) write their books from the perspective of having a series of chats and discussions with another person (Louise Hay and Morrie). Even though the content and "lessons" to be learned from both books are good, the writing style of "Tuesdays with Morrie" comes across more journalistically authentic and less artificial than how Cheryl wrote.

You'll never find more positive women than Cheryl Richardson and Louise Hay. This book begins in the form of an interview, with Richardson drawing out the story of Hay, whose life may have been full of ups and downs but her positivity has remained intact. As she came to believe the truth that we create our own lives through our thoughts and feelings, she discovered how to help others by sharing these truths.

When things aren't going well, taking care of yourself and your thoughts is the most important thing. "Our most important act of self-care is care of our thoughts." This really hit home with me.

Another chapter dealt with starting our day on the right foot, with positive, loving thoughts for ourselves. While many ideas were shared on how do to this, Richardson and Hay make sure readers understand that it's not necessary to make changes all at once. Choosing one positive ritual at a time is all that's necessary to being making your life the best it can be.

I loved the practical examples of how to change my life by changing the way I talk to myself and to the parts of my life that may have previously been a source of annoyance and irritation. I completely loved the ideas to ask myself two questions throughout the day: How can I
make myself happy in this moment? and What thoughts bring me joy?

Another wonderful tidbit was the idea of dissolving rather than breaking a habit. Breaking something leaves pieces around, but dissolving something leaves nothing in its place. Beautiful sentiment and great idea.

I truly found so much to enjoy and put into practice in this book. Hay and Richardson are truly inspirational to all who want more positivity and joy in their lives!

I read a book by Cheryl Richardson many years ago called "Life Makeovers" that really impacted me at the time. While I had heard of Louise, mostly in regard to her work with AIDS patients many years ago, I had never read any of her books.

I was initially disappointed to see how this co-authoring was presented. Instead of truly writing the book together or taking turns writing chapters, the book is basically an interview of Louise Hay by Cheryl Richardson (i.e., the book is written by Cheryl but with many quotes from Louise). That's not what I thought I was getting and, if you'd have asked me to rate the book after I'd read the first 20 pages, I would have likely given it 2 stars. But, in the end, the content of the book and the relationship and interplay between Louise and Cheryl won me over.

Cheryl, who is famous, wise and knowledgeable in her own right, is self-deprecating and humble here. Louise, on the other hand, comes off arrogant to me, as if Cheryl was 12 and Louise was telling her how life works for the first time. Perhaps this was necessary for this interview format they chose, but I found it a bit off-putting. Perhaps this is just Louise's personality--I don't know, since I haven't read her writing before.

The book deals heavily with affirmations--and Louise gives affirmations for almost any topic or activity you could imagine, which is very helpful. Like the experts in the book "The Secret," Louise feels that affirmations must be in the present tense, as if whatever you wish to achieve or happen has already been achieved or happened. I used affirmations like this in the year before I retired--aimed at building a happy retirement--and the process served me very well. I am now 3 1/2 years retired and I have most everything I affirmed in the year prior to retiring.

There is quite a good discussion about aging--specifically women coping with the aging process in terms of their looks fading--that may be very helpful for women who are struggling with that issue.

All in all, a recommended read. I'm very glad I kept reading after the initial disappointment about the format that the authors chose. I've cemented some things I already knew, learned a few new things and have returned to the process of including affirmations in my daily life.

Reading this book (just finished a couple weeks ago) is like receiving
a pep-talk or guidance from a friend or grandmother. Life-coach Cheryl
Richardson and self-help guru Louise Hay inspire me to take more care
with my thoughts.

In the introduction, Hay writes: "All of us can improve the quality of our
lives if we practice the art of self-care and train our minds to think
thoughts that make us feel good. When we do, we attract delightful
experiences that enrich our lives." Later in the book, she says,
"You need to be mindful of what you're putting into your consciousness...."

The book contains affirmations for a variety of life's circumstances.
And there are plenty of examples from Hay's life experience
(which includes abuse when she was a teen). She prevails, however. (Optimists win!)

My one quibble with the book: I get the impression that in order to maintain
a positive mental environment, Louise Hay does not watch the news.
She basically says so at one point. I personally prefer to be informed.
But the greater message--that our lives are created from our thoughts--
is worthy and essential.

This book is really a must-read for anyone looking to convert their negative self-talk and negative beliefs toward a more productive way of being. Many readers know the work of Louise Hay through her book, You Can Heal Your Life. In this new book, Hay partners with nationally-known life coach, Cheryl Richardson.
The book is the story about a series of conversations that Hay and Richardson had over the course of many months as each traveled throughout the world where they participated in conferences and workshops. It is told from Richardson's point of view as she and Hay connect in between commitments. Their relationship is one of mentor and mentee, and readers have the opportunity to listen in as they engage in "kitchen conversations" about each of their days, current challenges, and using those experiences as fodder for creating an exceptional life.
Hay, in her 80's, and Richardson, in her 50's, remind us that everyone, whether famous or not, confronts similar situations and asks the same questions about how to best resolve and navigate what life throws our way.
This book is well worth the read. It packs a punch whether read completely at one sitting or in segments.

It has taken me several months to review this book, primarily because I couldn't get past chapter one. If you know anything about Louise Hay, which I had already, then it basically just reintroduces her life & beliefs. I enjoy reading self-help and inspirational books that help improve the quality of my life and this was a little slow to start and I wasn't a fan of the conversational tone to it. Basically Cheryl asks her questions and then add's her input to Louise's response.

If you really closely look at the book, there's not that much content, perhaps that's why they chose such a small formatted book with an average of three paragraphs per page, large page margins, etc. The reason I gave it 3.7 stars is that sprinkled within is knowledge that can be applied to your life (which is why I chose this book to begin with).

"We are powerful, creative beings who determine our future with every though we think and every word we speak." Now every mainstream spiritual speaker teaches this.

Louise Hay is an inspiration, and I like everything she's written. To be clear, this wasn't exactly written by her, but it's an interview of her conducted by Cheryl Richardson. No bother, Louise's voice comes through.

You might be familiar with Louise from her groundbreaking book You Can Heal Your Life: Special Edition Box Set (Book & DVD Box Set). Louise is a pioneer of the mind-body and mind-universe connection schools of thought. She's ever s positive.

This is a very short book, you can probably read it in a single sitting.

Hay is big on affirmations and positive thinking, and that is clear throughout the book. There is a listing of all of the affirmations in the book at the end. She covers a lot of ground here, just kind of dipping her toes, but it is a pleasant journey. She covers her life's journey, as well as her thoughts on growing older.

This might be a nice introduction to someone new to the Law of Attraction, or to Louise Hay.

Grab hold of this wonderful little book and prepare to spend time with two delightful people as they share their hearts and souls with each other and us. The give and take between two professionals demonstrates how we can help others and ourselves move toward emotional and spiritual well-being through the use of affirmations. Ultimately, they are teaching us ways to improve our relationship with ourselves. For learning to love and appreciate ourselves opens the door to others - including those we think we dislike.

It was so nice to read about other folks that talk to themselves, their cars and the mirror. Louise Hay shares many of her affirmations she uses in her life in order to show Cheryl how to get a hold on her life. She is the perfect example of how affirmations change the tones you hear and speak by speaking positively of herself and her world. As she stated, "if people get a hold of their day, they get a hold of their life". Wonderfully said. And the unique way Cheryl tells their story gives the examples root to grow in your own garden of life.

This should be in your home and/or office library - available to remind you of how much you love yourself. Read the book, practice self-care, and learn the joy of loving yourself.

"You Can Create An Exceptional Life" is based on a series of empowering and intimate conversations between best-selling authors Louise Hay and Cheryl Richardson.
Louise and Cheryl begin the book with the core message, "There is a Universal energy, a Divine force that creates us; sustains us; connects us to one another; and works in cooperation with our thoughts, words, and actions to generate our life experiences...The formula is simple: Think thoughts that make you feel good, make choices that make you feel good, and take actions that make you feel good. Then surrender the outcome. Trusting that Life will bring you what you need to grow and be happy."
We CAN change what we do every day, in little ways, to deepen the groove of habitual thoughts that directly influence the quality of our lives by what we think and say to ourselves. We see, feel, send and affect energy in ways we seldom, if ever imagine. Like radiant stars sparkling in the night we live and breathe in a unified field of energy that connects us to one another.
Recurring themes are what we put into the world has a great effect on what we get back. Every situation can be transformed into a blessing with love. The power of affirmations sets up the day in the best possible way.
Don't break a habit - dissolve it! Don't use the word "break" because the pieces are still around when we break something. When we dissolve something the whole experience disappears.
Rather than redecorate hell by arguing consider a different approach. Reach out and mentally send love. Instead of using the ego's agenda of wanting to be right and justifying a position drop the defenses, listen with love and focus on a positive outcome. The solution will come quicker.
Louise says the more you turn away from the problem and stop wanting a solution NOW the quicker the solution comes. The affirmation, "All is well. Everything is working out for our highest good. Out of this situation only good will come" also helps. We want to select thoughts that contribute to creating love, joy, prosperity, good health and a happy peaceful mind.
Cheryl says over the years they both learned when there is defensiveness, there is no communication. Also when the problem is solved we need to let it go. Don't dip in the past and be miserable in the present. The more we complain, the more we find to complain about. Life gives us what we concentrate on. Don't become a constant victim of Life. Become more curious about things that bring joy.
Good affirmations are: Life loves me, this is a blessed day, I have time for everything I need to do today. Changing my thoughts is easy and comfortable, I send love to every person at work and while driving on the road.
Louise recommends we use the positive affirmation, "I have a wonderful, harmonious relationship with my mother (or whomever) if there is conflict or estrangement. When we stop having terrible thoughts about someone we create the space where there could be a harmonious relationship. "Bypass the issue and talk about what you want as if it is so...Ultimately it's the alignment of head and heart that creates the alchemy that gives your affirmations power." Louise says there is usually a positive change in a relationship if these affirmations are used daily from three to six months. However, she warns not to avoid feelings. You need to give yourself a chance to feel to figure out how to get out of the uncomfortable mental space.
When looking in the mirror (Louise calls it mirror work) tell yourself, "Hi kid you're looking good, I love you. Thank you for doing something good today."
Other topics include: How you live your day is how you live your life, loving ourselves and our bodies, manifesting positive relationships, bringing true prosperity and abundance to the world, aging consciously, the beauty of wisdom and facing death in a dignified peaceful way.
Cheryl says she can't get over the amount of energy Louise has at age 84.

Louise Hay is an inspiration and through this book I got a more in depth appreciation for her journey. This interview-style book gives the reader a taste of what it must be like to sit with Louise and learn from her. Cheryl Richardson is a well-known life coach and could certainly impart a lot of wisdom herself, but she "sits at the master's feet" and learns and appreciates Louise's quiet, experienced wisdom.
I enjoyed reading this book, found it inspirational and would recommend it for anyone who has enjoyed Louise Hay's writings.

Feeling a little down, depressed, negative? Lousise Hay and Cheryl Richardson work in synch to bring you a short, esay to read book of affirmations to reprogram your thinking. Louise Hay has been an important teacher since her early days working in the AIDS crisis. At 84 she believes what she says. The message is simple, Talk nice to yourself every chance you get, every day, all day long, It will lift your vibration and the vibration of everything around you. Begin with this, "I experience love wherever I go."

In this short book, Cheryl interviews Louise about her life questioning her why and how she started her ministry. If only this book was bigger and much longer... Throughout this book, Louise gives us affirmations for healing, what to say to oneself when we first wake up and open our eyes, when looking in the bathroom mirror, in the shower, using the bathroom, when getting dressed, in the kitchen and during meals, when driving, throughout the day, at work, when arriving back home, for health and loving the body, when facing difficulties, for prosperity and how to prepare for the end of life.
In 1991, I was about to marry my soul mate, but unfortunately, the Universe decided otherwise for me. Then, my quest started asking inside of myself "why, why, why..." Why, at first, the Universe puts me in touch with my soul mate and then creates circumstances beyond our controls to stay together and marry? So, my quest fell on Louise's affirmations.
Over last decade, thanks to Louise's affirmations, especially with her "I CAN DO IT" book, I have evolved spiritually very much. Frankly, I thought that after 20 years of search and personal evolution, my soul mate would miraculously come back (thanks to the Universe's energy) and that then I would be able to share with him my 20-year spiritual evolution, but the Universe decided for me otherwise, which is the proof that we don't always have free will. Finally, I have recently married someone who is emotionally, intellectually and spiritually in synch with myself and I must say that I am very happy with him (even though I did not think that he would match to my person at first place). Thanks to Louise's affirmations, I have touched intellectually the limits of what the Universe has created for human beings like us in our human condition.
Louise has saved my life as many other people's life and I wish her to live a very very long time because we still need her help and her work. Those who criticize her work are those who have understood absolutely nothing about spirituality!!!

"You Can Create An Exceptional Life" is a wonderful refresher course for many and great for readers who are unfamiliar with the power of affirmations. Louise Hay keeps it as simple and elegant as this, "When we think good thoughts, we feel good. When we feel good, we make good choices. When we feel good and make good choices, we draw more good experiences into our lives." We try to make life more complicated than this, but I have found that the more positive I direct my thoughts, the more positive my day goes.

Louise also goes onto explain that we are all exquisite communication machines, transmitting and receiving energy signals every moment of the day. I can attest to that. If I bring my son to day care and he feels any hesitation on my part, he clings to me. In the interest of both of us, I focus on the feeling of freedom, joy and being perfectly capable to navigate through life, so we can both enjoy our day! It's not just the thought, but more important the feeling of what you are directing!

The book is in an interview style format with Cheryl Richardson asking Louise Hay questions, going over ideas based mainly on affirmations. As the founder of Hay House Publishing company, she is a living example of what happens when you use affirmations, set an intention and then follow up with action steps. Louise explains, "Everything we think and say to ourselves is an affirmation. We need to be conscious of what we're saying and thinking all the time so that life can get better."

Namaste,
Sarah Starr
