I could hardly make myself finish this book, it was so awful. NONE of the characters are even remotely believable. Maggie starts out as a frumpy girl and is suddenly a sex bomb. Her parents and her sister continually tell her that she is basically the ugly sister and that Maggie needs to get over her jealousy (which in and of itself is unbelievable) and this is repeated over and over throughout the story. It was meant as an explanation for Maggie's inferiority complex, but one instance would have been sufficient. The whole story line felt forced, and the stalker situation wasn't very realistic either. It didn't seem like the author researched how a stalker thinks or what would happen within the legal system AT ALL once a criminal is apprehended. Overall, I found this attempt at romantic suspense very underwhelming. At least it was free.

I have never read a book where the main character is smitten in minutes (by one than the other brother). She is almost virginal the way she is described. She is beautiful, smart, and just plain wonderful to everyone but herself. I know you can get a quick heartbeat by someone upon meeting, but this woman almost goes to bed with the first brother before she has hardly met him, and then 6 weeks later after her terrible dumping by him, she starts to go out with the second brother, and they are almost in bed before he takes her out to dinner on their first date. Everything that happens to Mattie happens in the first couple of days of meeting a man. For an inexperienced school teacher, she sure knows all the 'right' moves when it comes to bedroom performance. (And her mother and sister think she is ugly, stupid, and couldn't be attractive to a good looking man, or probably to an ugly man, either!) And, always, a plate of some warm, delicious oven baked delight. I just couldn't go on after she hit the bedroom with Kyle, brother number two. Oh, and everyone in his family loved her immediately and knew how wonderful and mistreated she was by her family and all the other people in town (who treated her like a real nobody)! ENOUGH ALREADY!

"Mary Sue" with an inferiority complex and so quickly goes from bookish history teacher (that we never hear much about other than she spends alot of time baking for others) to sex kitten that everyone except her mother and sister and the town bimbos love, Maggie is a flat character without much substance. She's perfect in every other way except for having an atrocious childhood that didn't seem to have much affect on her personality except when needed to give her a slight inferiority complex that she quickly overcomes by standing up for herself for the first time out of no where and by getting a makeover? Now suddenly the hottest guys in town are all fawning over her and one becomes a stalker? Puhlease!

It's too bad because the writing and dialogue weren't too bad to start with, but the longer the book went, the more glaring the lack of good editting and writing became. The characters became flat and predictable and one dimensional, and even Kyle was written more like a teenager's unrealistic dream guy that does everything right. This book seemed like it was written by a teenager in many ways.

I don't mind the predictability and the ideas of mousy girl turns into a desirable woman that one man falls in love with, but there was too much in this book that was shallow, contrived and unbelievable that made it harder and harder to read. Too bad as it had a lot of potential.

The only really good parts of the book were the sex scenes (with safe sex too).

Let me start by saying that I usually love Lauren Danes books. In the other books of hers that I've read, the character development was really good and the chemistry was awesome. This book didn't seem like a Lauren Dane book to me. The dialog was cheezy and the chemistry felt forced and stiff. I didn't feel a connection to the main characters at all. I was glad that I got this as a freebie.

I enjoyed this book. Finding your one true love and doing all you can to overcome any obstacles along the way is always romantic! Although it was a little creepy to see Maggie ending up with her ex's brother. I thought she would end up with Shane. However, in the end it made perfect sense.

Free was too expensive for such a mindless waste of eInk! Sorry, but I could not understand the weird dialect, the odd women, the male jerks portrayed as the main characters of this series, and why it was offered. My time is to valuable to spend on poor offerings when there are so many better books available for free. Stay away from this one...

The story started out really well, I would almost say it was a good a Linda Lael Miller, but as the story went along the story made me think that the author read to many romance novels. The story would have been much better if the author used her own word and not tired old references.

I enjoyed reading "Taking Chase" so much that I ended up buying the other three books in the series! What a good sales strategy! You hooked me with the first book for free and I had to buy the others!

This book was somewhat entertaining, though not believable in any way. The grammatical errors kept pulling me out of the story. It really lacked in proofreading/editing. Light and fluffy, like a daydream.

Until now I have read books and accepted them for what they are without feeling the need to comment. However, I have reached the 27% point with this book and have given up in desperation. The author jumps between southern belle puritanism and vulgar language that serves no purpose. What is more, I have yet to find a story line other than that of a girl whose head is very easily turned. A load of brainless ramblings!

I liked the characters and storyline.
I recommend this because its so full of lessons and love and family. It's all very heartwarming.
I rated it five stars because it is such an amazing book so are the other chase books!!!

This book is not bad, just nothing wonderful or extraordinary about it. The characters are typical, the plot is thin and predictable and it took me forever to get through this book. Maggie has lived in the same town her whole life and after a makeover by her friend she is suddenly a real looker. Her mother and sister are way too mean to be real and the Chase family of four sons instantly treats her like a fragile treasure. I took a chance on this book because it was a free Kindle book and I am not sure I will read other books by this author in the future, maybe I'll try something outside of the Chase series.

This story started out with promise: hot brothers after the same girl who also is dealing with a stalker.. but the dialogue is painful at times it's so corny. Some of the female secondary characters are cartoon-like they are so outside of reality. There are two really hot sex scenes, which is why I gave the book a three, but if that is what you are looking for, a smut anthology will do the trick, like anything edited by Alison Tyler(which I HIGHLY recommend).Down and Dirty: 69 Super Sexy Short-Shorts or Got a Minute?: Sixty Second Erotica

After reading the description and then a sample, I decided to buy this book. It also helped that it was free. But it was not at all what I thought. Kyle was at first portraided as the strong, take charge guy. Not someone who still calls his mom and dad Momma and Daddy. Now, I have no problem with that, dont't get me wrong. I liked the fact that he was still close to his parents. But he was hiding behind his parents when his girlfriend was being held captive by her stalker, and was sitting there crying pretty much. I also got tired of how Maggie's family acted. The way they acted was completely unbleievable, and just plain dumb. Maggie was also at times very weak and annoying. I don't really recommend this book at all. Not if you like strong, male characters that protect the girl they love and don't take any crap from people. And can stand on their own two feet.

Romantic suspense, with a heavy dose of erotica in the second half.

The conversations between the girlfriends were OK, but the conversations between the brothers didn't ring true. The villain was OK, but the multitude of b*tchy women - including the heroine's sister and mother - were cartoonish. Most of the book was like this: for everything I could say was acceptable, there was on offset that negated it for me. I couldn't connect with any of these characters enough to care what happened to them, and this story seemed to go on forever.

I won't be trying anything else by this author.

This reads like a Hallmark movie, mousey girl, meets hot boy, hot boy follows her around like a puppy and a stalker wrecks havoc. This all leads to the happy ending. Oh and don't forget about the wicked mother and sister. Ugh. Hot sex...umm, no. I will say that it was a fast read and likely great for a true romance reader, but I need a little bit more of a strugle with my romance.

I love romance novels, and the description of the Chase Brothers series got my attention. Unfortunately, the writing style and dialogue was so painful to read, I had to stop after the first couple of chapters. I'm sure the storyline is good, since there are so many positive reviews, but I couldn't stand the way the book was written.

I agree with many of the statements above. First of all, awful cover! They look like scrawny kids! I would never, ever pick up this book at a bookstore. I would have been upset if I purchased this book, but since I downloaded it for free on my kindle it was okay. At times the writing and characters were really good. At times I thought it sounded like a high schooler had written it, thinking this is what small town people in love sound like. Trust me...we don't! The language in the sexy parts was just awful! I'm not a prude, especially with reading something, but they sounded like someone thought saying these raunchy words over and over sounded sexy. They don't! It's like someone who uses profanity all the time...people pay them no attention, but someone who doesn't use it and says a bad word...well people listen. I thought the storyline was good and I loved the family and friends part of it. I'm glad I read it, but I wouldn't buy any others (but I would download them for free).

This book was just atrocious. The language made it seem as if the book was written by a hyperactive fourteen-year-old. The characters spoke in ways that no emotionally-developed adult would. The book was simply BAD, and I definitely won't be purchasing others by this author.

Hi everyone. Ohhh, this book is sooo booooring! It's more a narration that actual novel with its' twists and surprises. I had a feeling that I was reading a newspaper about a recent town party. There is no depth to this story, and therefore, it is a very boring reading. Oh, and that cover! Ridiculous! :)) People, please, at least try to sell it through its' good looking cover...

I haven't even finished reading this book (32 percent into it), and I don't know if I ever will. I downloaded it for free on my Kindle, and I have to say, it's like it's written by an immature 20-year-old. The verbiage used is inappropriate in almost every scenario, the grammar is spotty, and the characters are continually addressing each other by first and last name. The character tense shifts incessantly, which is frustrating. I can't believe the editor of this book let it publish as it is. It may be acceptable for a girl in high school, but if you're looking for something of substance, this isn't it. I'm not very deep when it comes to beach reads, but give me a break! Read "Notes from the Backseat" by Jody Gehrman instead and save your money.

GIVING CHASE is the first book in the Chase Brothers series. It's a re-issued story that's been newly edited.

Maggie is a history teacher who's been in a dating slump. Her besties, Dee and Liv convince her to get a small makeover. Before she knows it, Maggie has attracted the attention of three handsome men...Alex, the local librarian and not one but TWO Chase brothers. Shane is the sheriff and although he's attracted to Maggie, he's not looking for anything other than a good time. Kyle, on the other hand, can't seem to stay away from the gorgeous teacher. Will one of these men win Maggie's heart?

Let me preface this by saying that I do remember reading this book waaay back when and I've been a fan of Lauren Dane for years. But I was a bit disappointed in this book. Ms. Dane does say in the Author's note that she didn't want to change anything, that she wanted to keep the integrity of the story intact. So there's only a few grammatical changes. Maybe I've simply outgrown this book because I remember enjoying it the first time I read it but it didn't do much for me this time around! :(

Now don't get me wrong, there's some great things in here. For example, Kyle is an absolute sweetheart! I wish we got more of his background, more of his thoughts because Kyle was the star of the show. He was charming, attentive and just so flippin' SWEET. I felt sorry for Maggie as she had a family that was down right mean but she was still strong enough to break free from all that negativity and that's definitely something to admire. She was also extremely loyal to her friends. However, she was kinda wishy washy. Sometimes she seemed incredibly shy and had really low self-esteem and sometimes she was this little spit fire with attitude! I also wanna give a nod to the Chase Clan. They were the ultimate southern family...big, boisterous and loving.

The beginning was confusing for me! I wasn't sure which brother Maggie was supposed to be with. I had to re-read the blurb because I knew this wasn't a love triangle but it's set up to be one in the first few chapters. Plus, the story is told from multiple POVs but it jumps from person to person without any clear delineation. So one moment, I'm reading Kyle's point of view and the next I'm reading Maggie's, sometimes in the same paragraph! YIKES! That took awhile to get used to.

At the core of this book is a pleasant romance between two lovely characters with a dash of suspense and a bit of sexy. I think it could've been so much more with a few updates and maybe some rewritten or rearranged paragraphs but I'm sure it'll still appeal to a lot of people! I'll give the next one a try just because I DO love Ms. Dane and her books. Told from multiple POVs with a happy ending. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

***Review includes what some MIGHT consider spoilers but the info is easily found with the descriptions of previous versions of this book***

This is a re-release of an older book and I think that the blurb leaves out a few things that might be important to readers that the original included :)  So thanks to a night out and a bit of an accident with a plate of chili cheese fries, good girl Maggie finds herself on the radar of the Chase brothers.  What this new blurb doesn’t share is that her first outing is with Shane Chase, town sheriff.  Unfortunately for Maggie (and Shane, but good news for Kyle), thanks to a previous relationship Shane is scared of anything even just the tiniest bit resembling commitment.  When he thinks that a couple of dates with Maggie could actually have him wanting more, he heads for the hills … leaving Maggie to be swept off her feet by his brother.

Now, some could find this a little awkward but I think that Dane does an absolutely fantastic job of addressing it and really the two of them never get all that involved.  Instead it gives Kyle the perfect opportunity to show Maggie that not all Chase men are the same and that he’s ready to be the stand-up guy she needs.

The Chases are so close and the connection between them is wonderful to see.  All of them, even Shane after a few awkward moments, accept Maggie into the family.  She finds herself being shown the love and support that her own family has never given her … and that she sorely needs.  But Maggie has a stalker and he’s not too happy about Kyle.  It’s going to take all of Maggie’s strength and the support of the Chases to keep her safe.

Giving Chase has a lot heartwarming moments, especially as Maggie starts to really believe in herself and the love that Kyle is offering her.  But Dane mixes it well with the danger and action of dealing with a troubled ex who isn’t willing to let Maggie go.  I highly recommend giving this one a shot and I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the Chase brothers find their match!

(I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else’s.)

Giving Chase is the first book in the Chase Brothers series by Lauren Dane. I had a couple of this author’s other books on my to read list including her Delicious series but just never got to them. So when this one came on my radar as a re-release, I decided this was the perfect way to get to know this author.

Margaret (Maggie) Wright grew up always being told she wasn’t good enough, that she wasn’t as pretty as her older sister. Her mother and sister did everything in their power to demean her. Her father remained silent. Maggie went on to college and became a high school history teacher. With pretty severe self confidence issues, which is to be expected, she keeps herself under the radar. Her two best friends have had enough and give her a make over before a blind double date.

After a couple of dates with Alex, the man she was fixed up with, Maggie sees red flags like crazy with his behavior and stops seeing him. At the same time, suddenly the Chase brothers seemed to have noticed her. She has no idea why she would even be on their radar. In her opinion, she is no where near good enough for any of them.

Now let me introduce you to the Chase Family. I am just in love with this family. Mom, Polly, and Dad, Edward have raised four very good looking, successful in their own individual ways, boys. In this book you will mostly get to know two of them, Shane, the Police Chief, and Kyle who owns a landscaping business. All the boys knew Maggie but none had gotten to know her more than just in passing. But they noticed her now. The first to ask her out is Shane. But Shane has serious commitment issues from a past heartbreak and after a couple of dates, he runs. I do want to address something here. I have read that some readers didn’t like that she dated one brother first before falling for another. But they never did more than some heated kisses. And keep in mind that Maggie is completely overwhelmed that they are even acknowledging her, let alone asking her out!

Kyle felt attracted to Maggie from the start. He can’t believe he never bothered to get to know her before. After his brother walked away from her, he waited several weeks before asking her out himself. He knew right away she was special, that she could be important to him. Maggie felt it too but it takes her a long time to actually accept that someone like Kyle could really care for her.

Once these two start dating, their feelings develop pretty fast. They certainly don’t lack in chemistry. Together they are hotter than hot. Maggie’s family, though, does their best to beat her down and cause drama. And at the same time, there is danger lurking. Something that could rip them apart and destroy their lives. Through it all, the Chase family rallies around Maggie and becomes the family she never had.

“In the last half an hour, she’d gotten more comfort and love from the Chase family than she’d had from her own over her entire life.”

I really enjoyed this book. It did take me awhile to get used to her writing style. She switched back and forth pretty fast between point of views and a couple of times I had to go back a few sentences to make sure I knew who was talking. But the book was fast moving, steamy, sweet, and suspenseful. I loved the ending. It seems like Shane gets another chance at love in the next book in the series, Taking Chase. Will he run again? I definitely won’t hesitate to read more by this author.

I’m really enjoying these re-release ARCs as they are like going back to your hometown for a visit. You get to sit for a spell and reacquaint yourself with old friends and that’s always a fun thing to do. Giving Chase was probably the first Lauren Dane book I read long enough ago that it’s actually on my very first eReader, an old Nook. I loved the small town aspect of the story and it had a bit of suspense to it, both things I’ve always enjoyed in my books. Once I’d read all the Chase Brothers series, I discovered her paranormal books and devoured her backlist.

I loved that Maggie actually dated one brother before falling in love with Kyle. It was handled well and never felt like a love triangle. This is mainly because when Shane screwed up, he did it in a huge way so that door was not just closed – it was sealed shut. Kyle, close to his family, wisely waited a bit before making his move. Because of this, it felt more like an interesting twist than an angst fest.

Kyle was just absolutely swoon-worthy. Once he decided he would take a shot, he set out to woo his woman in a way that would do any southern mama proud. Just like all his brothers, he’d always had it pretty easy with women. He’d never seriously dated one and certainly never had to work for one, but he was all in when it came to Maggie. He was gentle when she needed it and extremely protective even when it meant taking on her own family. Needless to say, Maggie was one lucky woman.

Maggie had a tough upbringing with the mother and sister from hell. Because of this, she had an inferiority complex that did get on my nerves a bit. She also aired her mother issues at the drop of a hat which I found a bit odd. When she wasn’t stressing about that I liked her. She was a bit of a lost one but blossomed under Kyle’s care.

I loved Kyle’s family and some of Maggie’s friends. Each of the brothers has their own distinct personality and I even found myself liking Shane at the end despite his asshattery. The suspense aspect didn’t necessarily have me on the edge of my seat, but it had just enough action to keep things interesting.

I enjoyed this little blast from the past and am thrilled these books are being brought back to life. Yeah, I could see some dusty corners and maybe an outdated window dressing or two in this little trip down memory lane, but the story felt just as sweet, the chemistry was just as hot, and at the end, I was smiling just like the first time I read it.

Giving Chase is an emotionally gripping tale full of suspense and with some interesting romantic twists that adds some spice to the story.

This story has wonderful, compelling characters that pull readers into the story with a sweet romance that is interesting and different and emotional issues that readers can relate to and understand. Kyle and Maggie have some magical and electrifying chemistry that has sparks flying in every direction and the supporting characters are just as wonderful and attention grabbing as the hero and heroine which ensures that I will definitely be getting to know all the Chase Brothers and their family and friends.

The story also brings some of the suspenseful and dangerous twists in the dating game to life with keeps readers on the edge of their seats and building suspense while the couple try to work out their happily ever after in this fast paced story.

Lauren Dane certainly has a gift for making her characters lifelike with real characteristics and issues that make it easy for the readers to feel as if they really know the characters and are part of the story and the Chase Brothers are some sexy brothers that I sure don’t mind getting to know, in fact I want to know where I can find one of my own. LOL! Oh well, since I don’t see that happening anytime soon, I will just be happily awaiting the release of the next Chase Brothers book.
