I enjoyed this as a light, chicklit read. This is told in first person from the perspective of Gemma, a private chef with some very entertaining clients, who is thrown some surprises in the lovelife department (don't want to include spoilers). She is very likable, and her voice carries the book. We are with her through her various client visits, as well as her lovelife dramas, and they call come together in a predictable romcom kind of way, but perfectly enjoyable. My only complaint is that the ending seemed abrupt to me - I would have liked a little more of a denouement. Everything is just tied up suddenly in a bow, then we get an epilogue. But other than that, this delivered what it promised, and was a great summer read.

When In Doubt, Add Butter is a light and enjoyable novel - just what I wanted at this particular time. It reminded me of Hallmark channel chick lit movies.
I loved Gemma, the main character. She's a personal chef whose clients are mostly oddballs. And then they start to get even stranger! There's one, though, who leaves notes for Gemma - very witty notes to which she responds in kind. I loved that aspect.
The author ties things up quite neatly by the end - and I was glad she did. I would definitely read another Beth Harbison novel (this was my first). Recommended to fans of the author and Chick Lit. A perfect beach read!

I got this book on my Nook, looking for something fun to read on my summer break. The book is an easy read but very predictable, as far as the story went. I got it at 8pm and read it until about midnight the first night, on and off. I finished the next morning, so it wasn't a very long read for me, but besides the fact this story is a lot like a movie I just saw from the 1960's where the guy is dating his housekeeper, he'd never met, it was still enjoyable enough.

I enjoyed this book, but felt it needed some "butter"! W spend a lot of time with all of Beth's clients... And then when the person she's looking for three quarters of the boo shows up, we don't get all the details... So disappointing in that way, but Beth Harbison often does that

I liked this book until it started getting completely predictable in about Chapter 20. Apparently even though the heroine doesn't see herself as attractive, every man in the world thinks she is a goddess. Where's the reality?

This is one of my favorite Beth Harbison books so far. The characters were unique, the heroine likeable. There were a bit too many coincidences for my taste but nonetheless, if you can look past that, it was a fun and likeable read.

Daddy Long Legs with kitchens
This book is a recycled modern era plot of Jean Webster's much better 1912 novel "Daddy Long Legs," which makes the book entirely unoriginal. This book reads as if Harbison interviewed a bunch of private chefs to the elite, picked out the most entertaining stories and tried to create characters around them. Most annoying is that most of the characters have the same female "voice" - seriously, when was the last time you heard a grown man refer to an Etch-A-Sketch?? A throwaway read. Spend your literary time elsewhere.

As an avid chick lit reader and self proclaimed expert on genre, I found this book to be very good.
i liked the individual characters Harbison introduced at different times in the book. Some elements were predictable but in a comfortable way. My only grip was that it seems that she rushed through the ending. It was too quick and tidy. Granted there is room for a continuation which I hope for but it still left a slight bad test in my mouth.

I enjoyed reading this book. It was perfect for a rainy day; I think I finished it in less than two days! While a cute and easy read, it was slightly predictable. However, I did still enjoy reading about the main character and looked forward to the ending!
