I am so inspired! I have been highlighting and jotting down notes along my reading journey through this book. I'm so glad I found this! What an amazing person/teacher you seem to be! I hope I can incorporate a similar type of enthusiasm into my teaching! Thank you!

I have been teaching for many years and view teaching exactly like Dave Burgess. I think I started to stagnate, but his book inspired me and reminded me of why I wanted to be a teacher in the first place. It has changed the way I teach and look at my job. Thank you Dave! I recommend this book to all teachers!

I absolutely loved everything about this book. You could adapt this way of teaching to any age-group or subject area. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels like they are in a teaching rut or just want a change in the classroom!

Inspirational. This book is not a "do this exactly like me and you will have a great class." Burgess lists great questions to ask yourself what you can do to make changes that work for your personality.

It's an interesting book, and I think people will find it useful, but it was clearly written for people burning out of their teaching jobs. I wanted more specific examples of things I could do in class to improve student engagement, and this book isn't a how to-- it's a pep talk.

Just amazing! Had lost my mojo after maternity leave and now after reading this I am back to my usual enthusiastic, sarcastic self! Great read for anyone feeling bored or complacent in our profession!!

My hubby loves this book and has recommended it to many other teachers too. This year after Halloween, he stocked up on several costumes to wear for his different units, and his students are loving it!

So like other reviewers I was frustrated by the lack of specifics, although there are some. Don't get me wrong- I appreciate the author's passion and I did get some valuable info from this book but compared to an author like Kelly Gallagher who includes student sample work and more concrete info, this was disappointing. I did hear the author on a radio show once and got more concrete ideas from that show like having an Academy Awards show for the best book. I am using that idea for a poetry unit.

This book should be revised with visuals, pictures and concrete ways these ideas are used in the classroom. This book is really just an outline of vague ideas with some inspiration sprinkled in.

As the summer wraps up and the thought of sitting in hours of staff development crushes down on my being, I was refreshed by the reminder of why I teach - the students. The quick read, Teach like a Pirate, has given me the fuel to keep things in perspective and relight my flame of creativity.

very motivating....should be a considered for district professional book reads. Some ideas I have actually done in the classroom, Every year is different, every class is different, teachers need to be flexible and always pull ideas and tweak some ideas from their treasure chest.

Dave Burgess is an incredibly talented teacher! In this book he gives clear strategies and details for capturing his students' attention while delivering the content they need to know and understand. I only wish I had his energy!

Dave Burgess wrote this terrific book in order to challenge teachers to inspire and thrill their students about learning. As a high school Social Studies teacher he gives many examples of how to bring history to life through "edutainment". Teachers will appreciate his disdain for the modern over emphasis on testing and will take away ideas on how to be more engaging. It's a great book to read to remind all teachers why we do what we do. I loved it!
