Depending on your situation in life you will take away your own meaning, as with any book. However, you will certainly take away something meaningful. A powerful read, expertly crafted and a joy to experience.

Each of these three novellas grip the reader and do not let go. I found them fascinating in their portrayal not just of the internal workings of their protagonists but of the settings, each quite different, but richly portrayed with a strong sense of familiarity and love. Stories of three quite different male lives -- these stories made me really feel inside the minds and hearts of the protagonists. That these were clearly men's stories kept coming into my mind as I read them. The language is beautiful. The author is a skillful writer interweaving his character's past and present to construct of each life a poignant integral composition -- as if each life were a work of artistry.

Legends of the Fall Excellent book. The book itself was in new condition. We bought it because we had seen part of the movie and wanted the entire story. We were not disappointed. I went on line to find it and through the Barnes and Noble website located new ones on the store.com; where we purchased it. I recommend this book if you like historical novels about the old west.

Initially upon reading Harrison's novella, I was disappointed since I wanted so much for it to completely parallel the movie. However, after picking up the story for a second time, my opinions have altered. I found Harrison's straightforward writing to be completely appropriate and rather distinctive. I discovered new depth to several characters who were slighted in the movie. The read was enjoyable and the story is so very memorable.

I bought this book after loving the movie and was greatly disappointed. The movie has more character development, and the script is loosely based on the book. The book itself is only about 70 pages, so it is a quick read (almost as fast as watching the movie). At times the book would jump around and was tough to follow. I would have been totally lost if I hadn't seen the movie. The other two short stories included in the book are a waste. Don't waste your time with this book.

Didn't realize this was three short stories but that being said I did enjoy reading them. Jim Harrison is so very talented. Quite an author and also quite an artist which I didn't realize until recently. You will enjoy reading Harrison.

The first booklet "revenge" was good and the 3rd book "legends of the fall was also good, probably because they both were made to the big screen. i just could not get the feeling of what the author was getting too. Both movies were great and remembered well. Recommend the read and the movie well. Forget the second book. GBC Sandy Utah

Great opening sentences; thought provoking. Not through with all of the stories. They give insight into male thought processes. I kept rereading some sentences because of lack of punctuation or thoughts that didn't have a logical flow. I came to the conclusion that I would love to be an editor. I do recommend it.

hard to believe they made such a wonderful 3 hour movie out of this Novella.very disappointed. I was expecting so much more since I enjoyed the movie so much. I've always enjoyed reading the book after seeing the movie. It is fun to place the actors with the characters they portrayed. And the books have always included more depth.

It never did. I bought this nook because the author went to my college a d his death was noted in the alumni magazine. The first story had a very interesting character, who was out of the story after about 30 pages. Other than him, there was not one character in the three stories that I considered sympathetic or whom I had any desire to know his/her fate.
