This is a little like the Twilight series in that it's set around teenage vampires but the vampire world works differently. I think the author has done a really good job in constructing the vampire world that we come to know, though the teenage characters can be a little annoying at times (probably because they are teenagers and somewhat immature). I read the book in one day, the story does grab you and keep you interested and the plot moves at a good pace. There were a few parts that seemed a little unrealistic, but they didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. I'm sure this series will just keep improving.

This would be a great read for teenagers, especially as there are no graphic scenes.

I received the book from Story Cartel for free in exchange for an honest review.

Great read! This was one of those stay up all night because you can't put the book down books. I am usually able to take it or leave it when it comes to this subject, but if you keep writing I am quickly going to become sleep deprived!

I liked the new twist on how vampires happen. The book captured my attention right away I didn't want to put it down. Alexis is a very strong willed young lady, by shear willpower she makes it through a lot of intense situations. My interest was captured so well I bought all of the other books in the series. If you like this book you will love the others. The only thing I had a problem with was the editing. Letters were missing at the end of words or the word was just missing all together. It makes a sentence not make sense. Until you re-read it again and figure out what is wrong with the sentence.

This book was awesome. I will for sure read all the books in the series.

The story started out slow and then Alexis started out by breaking light bulbs when she was mad and then she got to where she could hear peoples thoughts. Ok I figured she was a psychic or something like that. When Alexis was told that she was a vampire, I am like wow I did not see that coming.

All the vampires that was helping her didn't really help her as fast as she wanted so she had to learn alot of her powers on her own. One thing that I didn't like was when Cliff took off for so long before he came back. I loved the ending. I can not wait to read the books that follow.

I found that this book started off a bit slow - but that being said, it didn't take long for the plot line to thicken and get really interesting. When Alexis starts taking matters into her own hands to discover the truth about herself, she uncovers something so unexpected. The events that take place afterwards, is so intense, and leads to a battle with an ending that has a unexpected twist.

I enjoyed all the characters in this book. Their relationships with each other was real and genuine. I also enjoyed the raw emotions that Stacy was able to bring out in her characters.

I'm really looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens to Alexis, and the difficult decisions that you know she will have to face!

Deception was a very fast and enjoyable read,it does start off a little slow but picks up fairly quickly. As a reader I liked that there was tons of action and mystery to go around, definitely a very unpredictable read, I could never guess one way or another which way things would go and it kept me on my toes. The story-line was unique and the characters were all very interesting. Alexis's character was my favorite, she was so smart!! It really irked me how her parents favored one sibling over another,I think it made her stronger and helped her deal with all the "strangeness". One thing I will say is that I was completely thrown for a loop with the ending, but I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.

This is a fast paced novel that had me hooked from the beginning. Alexis is growing up as the oldest daughter. But it is her younger sister who is the favorite. She is a very smart and strong girl. It's just that things are starting to happen. There are so many different levels to this novel that I don't want to get into because I don't want to spoil it. When I first read vampire I wasn't sure I would like it. But, I loved it. I can't wait to read the next book.

Yes this book was written for YA but I love to read well written books in almost any genre.

Deception starts with a lot of twists and turns. Everything I thought I knew what was going to happen or what would be coming next I was consistently surprised. There is a lot of depth in this book. The paranormal storyline is solid and it’s easy to relate to the characters even though I’m no longer a teenager myself.

The book does end with a cliff hanger. Don’t start this thinking you’ll find a ‘happily ever after’ at the end. Maybe the next book will provide that. I can’t wait to read it.

My biggest issue with reading books by Stacy Claflin is that I CAN’T PUT THEM DOWN!

I got this book as part of the Stacy Claflin Starter Library. I raced reading through this book because it was crazy exciting. The main character of the book, Alexis, is just an ordinary girl who has high self standards for herself academically and dreams of going to an ivy league. She does not know that she is the royal princess of the vampires. Watching her transform from a "book nerd" to a vampire through Claffin's writing is an amazing journey. I cannot wait to read the next book.

I started to read this and almost stopped part way thru.... the main character was getting annoying (and the characters in the know were no help).... but I kept reading ( because it was a phase) . I am glad I did.... amazing.... lots of feels... twists.... a " yeah, knew that was going to happen" .....

Alexis is growing as a person.... can't wait to read more

I'm a paranormal/supernatural/magical/mystical reader. Stacy did a good job with this story. It's not a typical vampire/werewolf type of read - a little different, and I can enjoy small differences if the story is good. This one was. This was a very enjoyable 1st book in the series and I'm looking forward to reading book 2!

An amazing look into things we do not know or understand! Alexis and Clifford have their whole futures in front of them and hopefully they will handle any issues with the grace of the Prince and Princess! Imagine being separated and finding each other after so many years. And for Alexis to finally learn she is a vampire! What a whirlwind!!

I'm not a big fan of YA books, but this one was certainly different. It had me hooked from the fourth chapter onward. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I kept saying I will stop reading because it is not my genre, but I just couldn't stop. Stacy Claflin has another fan in me. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I loved this book! This is the first Stacy Claflin novel I have ever read and I wasn't disappointed. This story had me hooked from the first chapter when strange things started happening to Alexis......I couldn't wait to find out how the story unfolded. The characters in this story are believable and I loved how there was a different take on vampire strengths, different to most authors.
Great job Stacy! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

At first it was kind of hard to get into. I don't know if it was because I haven't been much into reading lately, the few grammar mistakes here and there, or if it was because it's her first story. After a while I sat down and actually read through it some, and wow. If the story doesn't draw you in at first give it some time. I can almost 100% promise you it will. It's absolutely amazing and I'm dying to read more. Though I'm torn between the two guy choices in the story I'm really pulling for Cliff. If he doesn't win her over in the end I'll probably throw my kindle across the room. (Lets hope to God he does. Even though he can be a bit of a jealous jerk)

AMAZING book. I have never been a big fan of the sci-fi fantasy books about vampires or witches but I absolutely loved this book. It is full of twists and suspense. Teen angst, romance, action, and peril...definitely a young adult fantasy. Some quite interesting vampire plot twists. Due to being in the 'olders' crowd, I struggled to finished the book. Younger's will probably like it.

I was gifted with a free e-copy of the book in return for an honest review.

I was immediately drawn in by this story. It was clear from the beginning that there was something different about Alexis. Her parents plainly favoured her younger sister, showering her with expensive gifts and pricey clothes, yet not doing the same for Alexis. Once the light bulbs began breaking all over the house it made me want to know more about this hard done to girl and her cruel parents.

The introduction into the story was interesting, the scene set did not indicate to me which direction the tale was to take, it put me in mind of a film I'd seen with my kids a few years back called `Return to Witch Mountain'.... Not because it was the same story but it had the same `feel' about it and from then on I was expecting that type of story... NOT what I got though!

The moment the truth about Alexis was revealed I have to say I was disappointed. There were so many alternatives that she could have been, I really wanted her to be something else, and was quite put out for a while that this was what she was!.... yeah no spoilers here I'm not telling you her secret. The book did redeem itself because after my initial frustration I soon got over it and was pulled back into the story enjoying the read to the end!

I would recommend this to any lovers of the paranormal genre.

MG/YA isn't really my genre, but I downloaded this book from StoryCartel and found myself turning page after page wanting to see what happened next.

I think this book will appeal to the young crowd because it has everything: romance, action, teen angst, peril, attractive leads, little adult interference. Claflin has created a new lexicon for the vampire world she's woven, one where blood isn't a necessity but is an issue, where sunlight doesn't affect them but still poses a problem, where some are kind and benevolent and others are dark and deadly. It's fun to watch this world unfold, for both the reader and the characters.

The best part of the book is that it is self-contained, but leaves itself open for a sequel. Readers will find themselves satisfied, yet still wanting more, and are able to get more.

Some of the dialogue is a bit immature, but these are teens we're dealing with, so I suppose that's to be expected.

All told, this is a book that I think teen readers will enjoy, and will look forward to more of the series.

Deception is a great story. I enjoyed reading it from the first word until the last word. It deserves the 5 Stars I awarded to it!

Simply amazing. I love reading! I tend to read a lot of 1800 based romance novels and some fantasy type of novels and must say that this book was a can't put down type of read. I honestly didn't even know it was a vampire based book until they stated it lol. I laughed and teared up at some parts and I can't wait for the next book!! I'm torn between cliff and tanner....

There's a strange time, around the middle school years, when instead of feeling more mature and self-assured, many young girls begin to lose, or hide, the power they felt when they were younger. Dreams of becoming a superheroine fade, adolescence arrives with doubts and fears they don't quite understand, and before you know it, your little Superwoman is an angst ridden knot of insecurity. "Deception" is a book for young girls who need to reclaim that power.

It's not a perfect book--the opening is a bit repetitive and the dialog very much "on the nose" a great deal of the time. But this is YA, and perhaps things do have to be spelled out a bit more in that genre. And I defy any young girl, or any older "girl," to resist wanting to stand up and fight as the protagonist does in the fierce battle scenes.

Alexis may not sparkle like the Twilight bunch, but she definitely shines.

Deception by Stacy Claflin was a fantastic book. There was, as the title implies, a lot deception. Much happens in this book after Alexis discovers she is a vampire, the lost princess in fact. The reason, promise not spoiling, was because a a group of vampires called the Moretti wanted to kill her. So in accordance, she was given to a human family and was raised as a human. Once she starts turning, many events start rolling in action.
Many twists and turns happen and while there was a little bit to much drama in it for me, it was still a fantastic book.
I hope that others enjoyed this book like I did.

A fantastic book, Alexis has a mysterious life hidden somewhere. She learns bit by bit and it's driving me nuts! My mind thinks of something but it is not. And again... The end is breathtaking, I needed the sequel right away. Vampires and castles and mysteries, nothing more to say, it's the equation for a perfect story.

I enjoyed this book very much. Alexis, the main character is full of normal teenage angst when she finds out she's not a regular human teen. The supporting characters are well written also, with a solid backstory for them. All in all, a very entertaining read.

Before beginning I was so ready to be dealt with another same old same old fantasy sorry but I was proven wrong.
I like how the main character was able to eventually figure out stuff on her own and she seems like she'll continue to develop that way.
I only wish that the characters would have been more ethnically diverse. Besides sometimes describing someone as gorgeous, Claflin rarely gives physical descriptions of characters which sometimes got distracting.
I'm really anxious to see what the next books have in store!

thank heavens! The setup for the book starts a little slow (i.e. Angst, angst, I hate my sister/family, angst; heck, she's a teenager.) But our heroine, once she hits her stride, is a force to be reckoned with. I really loved Alexis starting to adapt to a life she'd had no clue she was destined for, how she grew a spine and began getting herself and (most of) her friends out of trouble.

However, I wanted to pop her 'handlers' upside their collective heads more than once.

All in all, I liked these characters, and the book caused me to be invested in them; I want to know how their stories turn out.

Not my usual cup-of-tea but the write up was intriguing. Alexis is the main character, she is a feisty teenager full of angst and some innocence. Her life is suddenly transformed when she is told that her whole life so far has been a lie! I soon became intrigued by the goings on and half truths, I found this addictive and wanted to know how the characters faired. I am in no way a teenager in years, just in my mind, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and found it really difficult to put down - in fact I sat up 'til past midnight to finish it! The plot was not totally predictable and I found myself wanting to know more about what was going to happen to Alexis and how her powers were going to develop. The romantic triangle element was intriguing and I'm looking forward to seeing how it will evolve in the next book.

I loved it because not only did Alexis choose a different path. She fought and went thru things that may seem stupid but it's always there. She was jealous of her sister. She was bullied because girls are petty. She "cheated". These are the things that happen nowadays in high school. Some of these things made me love the book so much. I literally couldn't stop reading it. I hope everyone else does too.

This is indie author Stacy Claflin's debut novel, the first in a series about an ordinary teen girl who discovers that she's a vampire princess and must use her newfound powers to forge her own destiny and protect the ones she loves.

I have very mixed feelings about this one, so let's start with the good. It was a fast read, filled with excitement and drama. The dialogue was so smooth I often found myself reading it out loud for the fun of it, and I couldn't tell how it would turn out in the end. The story itself was actually pretty good.

But there were problems. So. Many. Problems. A few technical errors sprinkled around (I'm a stickler, I know). The main character was every inch a Mary Sue, her personality generic and shapeless, liked by the heroes and hated by the villains. There were so many cliches that I had a hard time immersing myself in the novel--the dramatic vampire love triangle, the magic powers ex Machina. While I enjoyed the story, a good portion of the plot was dedicated to conveniences. Main character Alexis' vampire friends refuse to tell her anything about her identity or vampire life, for no reason. Other than maybe she wasn't "ready" yet, whatever that means.

The suspension of disbelief was another problem. Granted, I've gotten the exact same complaint for some of my own stories, so maybe I'm more sensitive to this than most. But for some reason Alexis had only the slightest bit of hesitation believing that her family's memories had been altered to make them think she was theirs when actually she was a magical vampire princess who was only starting to turn into a vampire.... I'd be a far cry from believing that even if my teeth suddenly turned into pointed fangs. Not only that, but others believed it readily as well.

There was also a distinct lack of emotion. There was a love triangle, a tragic death in the end and several close calls before then--but I didn't bat an eye. I didn't feel attached to any of the characters. I didn't know them well enough, and they were mostly sterile and devoid of personality, just like Alexis.

There's an audience for this book, and I'm sure the books that Ms. Claflin has written since are likely much improved as far as writing goes--I'll keep my eyes out for a free copy to see if I'm right--but frankly, I wasn't impressed. I wanted something new and immersive, something that balances on the fine line of reality and fantasy. This just didn't do it.

Deception is yet another teenage vampire story. I might not have read it had I realized that when I picked it up.

The story, at first, reads like some kind of teenage daydream. The protagonist, a teenage girl, begins the story with examples of unfair treatment by parents who like her sister better. Things pick up for her when she discovers she's actually a princess of the vampire kingdom and gets a hot boyfriend to boot. It doesn't hurt that she turns out to be the lookiest looker at school.

I almost stopped reading at that point, but I'm glad I didn't. The pacing is good, the story is well structured, and in spite of too much teenage angst I bought into it. Perhaps if I was still a teenager, that angst wouldn't have seemed over the top. The build-up to the denouement was good, and the set-up for the inevitable sequel was well done.

The book works primarily as a romance, and as such there are a lot of issues between the girl and her suiter and omigod another suitor. What's a girl to do? But it's done well, or well enough. It's not my normal cup of tea, but then I don't think I'm this book's normal target audience.

I enjoyed this young adult book. The author does a good job in advancing the story as well as developing character. It was a page-turner and a fast read. I would have liked for the pace to slow down when Alexis was developing her skills. I like the relationship between Alexis and Tanner. I'm looking forward to reading Betrayal, the next book in the series.

It was actually pretty good. The only drawbacks I felt there were to the book was that we didn't get to /see/ all the good memories between Alexis and Cliff.... I feel like it could have added something to her angst on not being able to pick between her boys.

I'm not normally a YA reader. That said, Calfin's story captures the spirit of the Twilight series, but builds on it and takes it in a different, intriguing direction. Very cool. The Alexis character draws you in, and she's someone we all knew in high school (and possibly hated), or we were like her ourselves! Alexis is perfectionist, super smart, very responsible, beautiful but doesn't know it.

Be careful, you will get hooked on Deception. You will want to learn more. Luckily, part two is not far behind ... This non-YA reader WILL be reading the rest of the series!

I very seldom read Teenager books since I am 69 years old. I received Deception within a bundle. Deception is a Paranormal romance with suspense and a lot of action. Stacy Claflin has a great writing ability that lifts your spirit and makes you want to continue reading any other book that she has written.

A very very interesting read!!! I love that with some similarities in vampire lore that there was also some differences. Kings and queens, castles and wars, magical powers etc. I would truly love to see the characters develop more as I continue reading!!! Can't wait :)

I love this book! I didn't expect it to be as good, as it was a free book but it was brilliant! The characters and the plot had me hooked. I was sad when the book ended as I wanted to read more. This is a book I would read over and over without getting bored and I look forward to reading the rest of the Transformed series.

Deception was a new take on paranormal romance! It was easy to read and tough to put down. The characters are easy to understand and make real world decisions in this fast-paced story. I'm glad I read it!

I really liked the storyline. I think that some of the words used by the characters were a little to plain. I also read this through an app on my phone and some words were missing from sentences. But overall enjoyed it enough to continue the series

I found Deception to be one that will definitely appeal to the younger crowd because it has romance, action, teen angst, and peril.
Some of the dialogue is a bit immature. But overall, a good read. Definitely will recommend for younger readers looking to get into paranormal romances.

The first 30-60 pages had me reading to decide what was going on in Alexis, the main character's life. From the end of that point it was me, edge of the seat, rooting for this teenage girl. Readers that enjoy Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Fantasy will most likely enjoy this book.

This book makes me want to find out what happens next, so give it 4 stars, it's not perfect but this one is better than book 1, a very good read and one that makes you read it fast... Leaves you happy..

I really enjoyed this book. I'm a fan of the "vampire/werewolf" genre and this book from a new author was a lot of fun.

The thing that surprised me was that this one wasn't "cookie cutter". The vampire mythology was similar to traditional folklore, but Stacy did change it up to keep things really interesting.

I wish I would have been able to fall in love with the characters but they were quite shallow and lacked details. They didn't grab my heart or my mind. I feel like I read the outline not the book...girl discovers she's not apart of her family and she's special vampire princess...it might be good for younger readers.
