First read this 35 years ago. Reading it again today, I realize that it is timeless, like all great tales are. This work and Stephen King's "'Salem's Lot" redefined vampire lore for the 20th Century. It is haunting and bittersweet and well-written--all the things that Stephanie Meyer's vampire works strived towards but could not attain.

well done for a first novel, i consider the ''vampire novel breeding grounds''. anne rice created a new genre of classic vampire stories! the start of a new era! that will live on for centuries...........!

Awesome book. I love this book more then the movie. Although I do wish that I had read the book first. The details paint a picture that can be distorted when you have already seen the movie. This is a must read...

Sticker on jacket, tears on jacket, scuffing on the jacket. Otherwise book is in good condition.
I first read this book the day that the movie came out (during school). It was a quick read and caused a love affair with Anne Rice's writings.

Not sure what inspired me to reread this after so many years, maybe it was the convenience of the Kindle edition, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it stood up to the test of time. Anne Rice's masterpiece.

Don't get me wrong, the book is absolutely amazing. Anne Rice is a phenomenal writer. This review is strictly about the audio CD. Apparently, the guy who reads this story has won all sorts of awards. Recording audio books seems to be his career, but we encountered a problem as soon as we put the CD in: Simon Vance is British, however the character Louis is New Orleans-French. This is even referenced early on in the book (Louis' interviewer comments on his accent). This breaks the illusion of the story for me. Someone else might not be bothered by this detail, but I just think that Simon Vance was the wrong choice for this voice-over. He is not believable as Louis, so much so that I have not been able to continue listening to the CD. Considering what I paid for it, I'm disappointed.

Powerful prose, compelling/rich characters, and an epic, sweeping plot spanning over two centuries in the telling, INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE is a powerful treatise on what it means to be human. A must read for the aspiring writers (like myself).

I'm more into Science Fiction and Fantasy than the Supernatural. This book really surprised me. I've seen the movie and liked it so I figured I would give the book a shot. They're very similar except for Paris. The book and the movie have some major differences that setup future novels. The changes were sound and made for a more entertaining movie but added so much more to the book. I'm on the second one now and it's just as entertaining and vivid. I highly recommend this book if you're interested and if you're reading this review then you must be. Drop a couple of bucks and enjoy yourself.

When I first read this novel I was absolutely blown away by Anne Rice's amazing writing talent and her sheer artistry with words. Before Interview With the Vampire I hadn't had much experience with vampire literature but this novel turned me on to it in a big way; to this day I still hunt through the shelves looking for Rice's equal in vampire fiction and with the exception of Poppy Z. Brite I have yet to find it. Louis and Lestat are two of my favorite characters of all time. I loved every aspect of this story but as always with Rice, I think I fell most in love with her lyric and vivid prose. Interview With the Vampire is a very dark gothic novel and though the story has become somewhat cliché Anne Rice pulls it off with her own flare and brilliance. (By the way the Tom Cruise/Brad Pitt movie doesn't do this book justice!!)
