Boy + Bot is an adorable story about two friends who try to take care of each other when they think the other one is sick. My 3 year old son received it as a gift at his last birthday and really enjoys this book. We read it at least 2x a week. We always talk in a monotone when we voice the robot, so I get a charge when I ask him a question and he says "AFFIRMATIVE" (like our Bot voice). Easy to read, nice pictures. Best for ages 2-5.

Like another reviewer, I felt compelled to leave a review after reading the one 3-star review for this book. It really is a superbly constructed story, the message is positive, and the illustrations are a perfect match to the story. My daughter is 3 and has enjoyed this book since last year when she was 2, and I can tell it will be long-lasting. I am very choosy with her books, and try to find strong female characters, but the fact that the character is a boy does not in my opinion detract from the story and its message at all. Yes, I would love if the character were a girl or genderless, but in my opinion that's not a reason to criticize this otherwise wonderful book! Very highly recommended!

I recently read this book to a preschool class, and they were captivated. This is a tale of an unlikely friendship -- boy and bot -- and how they both care for each other in their own way. The boy feeds the bot applesauce; the bot feed the boy oil. This book's brief text and bright illustrations are perfect for story times or reading at home over and over again.

The illustrations here are fantastic.
The writing is explanatory rather than narrative. Honestly it would've been better as a wordless picture book.
I think some people believe (mistakenly) that young children need everything spelled out plainly to understand it. There is a missed opportunity here for clever dialogue and opportunities for the reader to infer and predict plot points. The classic writer's advice "show, don't tell" is noticeably absent here. In a story with strong illustrations that would be especially appealing for older reluctant/struggling readers - that should've been the priority here.

This story was a cute story about a boy and a robot becoming friends. They discover that they are different but they don't let that stop them from being friends and playing together.
The book is cute with colorful illustrations that keep the child's attention throughout. Even though the main character is a boy, the book can be enjoyed by little girls too. We think this book would be enjoyed by toddlers between the ages of 2 and 4.
Overall Lilly enjoyed this book and we give it 3½ Stars.

This is a great story about the friendship between a boy and a robot. My 3 year old son loves this book. He asks for it every night. It is also the first book that he will try and tell me the story. The illustrations are bright and simple. The story is very cute and my son loves robot talk "affirmative." I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with small children, especially if they love robots.

This friendship story is a crowd-pleaser. Kids love when the friends try to "fix" one another -- applesauce for the robot! oil for the ear! Check out the boy and robot exchanging drawings -- robots are magnetic!
