This book provides a wealth of information for Software Developers at any level. Having been a Developer for past 20 years, I still find this book very informative. I wish there was a book like this when I started out my career. I am glad I purchased this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone regardless of their level of experience. Think of it as an investment on you career.

This is a wonderful, well structured and valuable book. A comprehensive guide which walks you through what is the best approach to learn a new programming language, with pro and cons regarding each learning method you might want to pick, educational system, career and many more, highly recommend it, a really good read and lots of valuable information any programmer can use and apply in his/her career.

John's Software Developer's Career Guide is a great read. John is witty, funny and sarcastic yet down to earth. I've read tons of self-help books, but John has nailed what I would consider the essentials for every aspiring Software Developer. Get a copy, read it and as John says, take action.

Must read for any software Dev - whether a junior associate or a senior architect! You will learn invaluable tips in here to help advance your career. John's writing style is humorous and easy to follow. The whole book is broken up into actionable, easy to understand chapters so you can jump around and easily refer back to chapters when they need to be recalled. The book also comes with a vast set of online follow up resources and videos to help cement the ideas John shares. Couldn't recommend this book enough!

This is the roadmap to a successful career in Software Development. Definitely it is a book that I would recommend everyone getting out of college. In fact, I would recommend everyone pursuing a career in Development to get it and read it on each phase of their careers. There is for sure something to be learnt on each run through it.

John has a empowering insight on life and a clear path to how to improve yourself as a programmer and a person.
He does a fantastic job of seeing things as they are in the Software Dev field and gives a ton of value with this guide.
If you are a software dev and are even hesitating about buying this book and reading it, just ask yourself one question.

There is something special about how John writes.
This book feels a lot like a conversation(A very long and in depth one). Where you get too pick an old mans brain.

I will definitely tell friends that are interested in the software industry. Too buy this book. They will get a much better introduction too what they need too do and be successful in this line of work.

You might not agree with everything John says, but if you are a tinsy bit of open minded at least he will challenge your ideas. Which in turn will make you think about them again and maybe refine them. Either way you get value out of the book.

As a computer science major in college. This book is major. I have not read eveything in the book. It was not written to read cover to but as a guide or manual. I've read what is currently relevent and I love it. I'm so thankful to have gotten my hands on this book.

John has once again created a must read, not only for new developers, but also for those of us that have been in the industry for some time. John's ability to share his knowledge of the industry and a really well written book is unsurpassed. You can read it cover to cover or just find the topic you need to brush up on. Buy this book you will not regret it.

I first heard of John Sonmez from his Soft Skills book. There are some things that are rehashed from Soft Skills but John expands on a lot of it and also adds new subjects in this book. I would recommend this book not only for software developers but also others who work in the IT field. I work in software support and found much of his content to be very useful. With a little imagination, I would be surprised if you couldn't use a lot of the principles mentioned for other fields as well.

I've been following this author for some time, and have been using some of his materials to advance my career.

This material is awesome, well written, and very valuable for developers at any stage of their career. I wish I'd had this a lot earlier in my life.

This is an awesome book with simple language and common sense advise, that every software developer must know. If you are a beginner or mid level software developer you must read this book. for senior developers, there are a lot of good nuggets of wisdom to ponder. Over all this is the book you should read first before reading Pragmatic Programmer or any other book.

I've been a successful software developer for 20 years. I wish this book existed when I was starting out. Anyone starting out should read this. John's advice is spot on. Even if you have a lot of experience, there is a lot of good content for you in this book.

Half of the book is applicable only for newbies, intermediate-senior guys will have to skip it. But the rest is quite interesting. Probably if I would start reading this book earlier - I would not quit my current job.

The Complete Software Developer's Career Guide continues on the path blazed by Sonmez's Soft Skills of taking the complexity in our life (and in this book's case, your software engineering career) and breaking it down into manageable & actionable chunks. This book handily delivers tons of great info covering the breadth of the industry — clear direction for the newbie to execute on & a kick in the behind that helps a journeyman get back on track.

In general, I recommend this book for every developer, because every developer should know what is contained in this book. What is worth to mention it is knowledge which can be found on the web but here you have got it in one place.
And there are many additions to this book.

This book contains so much information for every developer out there no matter their experience.

I am extremely driven, and a lot of the information in this book was already things I already do to improve. But I still managed to end up with great list of things I need to get going (a blog for example).

To sum it all up, this book helps you see what you need to work on and how to do it.

Not buying this book would be a mistake.

It really seems John prefers the passive income lifestyle over producing relevant content for programmers. I think he started off with a decent intention, but it's become very watered down to the point where he's actually begun to separate himself from the Simple Programmer brand. I wish him well with his future, but I think that will require him to make some difficult decisions about how he makes his money going forward.

I first met John at a conference for entrepreneurs, but I had spent years as a software developer constantly trying to upgrade my skills. And every time I turned around, John was there, with awesome information and a positive perspective that helped me grow. The man is prolific and one of the most successful, happy, and FREE software developers that I've ever met. I have a software development podcast of my own (Complete Developer Podcast - no relation to the book title) and I can confidently say that John's material still helps me, even though I'm now a content producer myself. Not only does he have a knack for explaining things well, along with solid reasoning, but you can see in his writing the intense drive to make a better software development community in the world by helping YOU be a part of it.

Like all his other stuff, in this book John distills his knowledge down into a form that you can consume and quickly become better at whatever problem you are facing. It's not such a huge book because he's wordy - it's a huge book because he has a tremendous amount of knowledge to share with those in the industry, including the more experienced developers like myself. This is what winning at the game of software development looks like. I suspect if you paid ten times as much for the hardback book, you'd still get a huge return on investment (so long as you follow his advice). It's good stuff.

This book contains a complete summary on how to grow, work and act as a software developer. Although first 3 chapters are meant clearly for beginners, they may be really helpful for you if you’re taking your first steps in the area of software development. However, the other chapters contain all the necessary information that every professional should follow, no matter what your experience is.

Contains lots of practical information for software developers to help build a successful career. John covers anything from programming, to methodologies to work life balance. The book is very well structured. I like that it is written in a simple clear style. An example of that is when John asks clear questions in a way that anyone would ask and follows up with the answer.

Such a fantastic book, and to the point, and very on the level with talking to people. John doesn't act high and mighty, he tells it how it is and builds it as he's a companion walking with you on your journey. This book is a must for all developers. I put him on the level like Tim Ferriss, or Tony Robbins.

This is very good book that anyone in the software development will appreciate.
As the book says, there's a piece of the book for every level of expertise, and honestly I would have liked to have this guide 10 years ago.

Book provides great insights into the approach to having a successful career from some one who has been there and done it. Rather than reading from cover to cover I have been bouncing from chapter to chapter based on interest in specific topics and have been trying to incorporate ideas presented in my day to day work.

Excellent read. The book is designed to be able to read it by skipping around, or makes sense by reading it cover to cover. The formatting and design is visually appealing which is important to me. The concepts in this book are things that translate directly into real world situations. I learned a ton and really recommend this book.

As an aspiring software developer, one of the hardest things I have found is sound advice to guide you through the overwhelming amount of knowledge that exists out there. This book is like a lighthouse that guides you to safe harbor. Highly recommended if you are a beginner.

As an experienced developer (and consultant) this book is an impressive collection of tips around building a career. Despite the fact that I know some parts of the book due to the fact that I follow John Sonmez for a long time it's worth every cent. If you haven't read any of his publications this book is fully recommend.

I'm had an interest in developing recently and came across Mr. Sonmez's book. I found it very informative with great references to other material and doesn't seem to sugar coat anything. If you are interested in a career change to software development, I'd recommend giving this a read.
