Tribes is inspiring. It helps one focus on what is important for them in terms of identifying their target market. There is so much information about marketing everyone--yet that is not the path to finding the group that is right for us. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering starting a business, looking for a job, or wanting to meet new friends.

Excellent book that explains the subtle shifts that have occurred within our economy, and how to adjust. Truly important book for anyone who interacts with people and wants not just a large following, but the RIGHT following.

This is not your normal leadership book. But the ideas and perspectives are inspiring. This isn't so much a "how to lead" as much as a "why to lead" book. Using many stories of unlikely leadership Godin discusses the nature and origin of true leadership as a a theory and idea. This view of leadership is transfer rebel to any discipline situation, personality, or arena. I would recommend this to anyone at any age who loves leadership or is bothered by the status quo!

Interesting look at leadership, change and attitude. Short but though provoking, and I sent a copy to entire support team. I'll be interested to get their feedback and once they are done I've asked them to share with another person on the program and keep passing around.

Seth once again simplifies the concept for the reader, which in this case is leadership. Some great quotes, clear and simple pieces of wisdom and a direct approach to defining leadership. Worth the read.

Makes me wonder why so many successful leaders are former Marines. Am I just biased? I enjoy listening to and reading Seth's stories, they really stretch my brain. I definitely believe leaders are good listeners and they don't ask permission. They have a passion for leading the tribe outside it's comfort zone.

This book is an eye opener uncovering why change does not start at the top. Change only occurs when someone is not satisfied and decides to do something about it. Godin calls a change leader a heretic. They do not follow "the way" and build new roads to the future.

Godin's book is chock full of unconventional insight unlike most others I've read. It's not a how to manual but a manifesto on leadership in the age of the tribe where few seem to have the nerve or will to lead yet everyone has the opportunity to change the world. I will retread this book often as I attempt to become more of a leader each day.

The self help book validated my opinions and reinforced the way I relate to others.

The book helped by showing me the sort of people I should be looking for and encouraging.

I think this book should be read by everyone and then they can decide what sort of work mate, team player, leader or manager that they want to be.

Do not be frightened by change, but remember change for the sake of change may not be productive.

It's funny when I thought about categorizing this book's genre, because the natural tendency, because it's a Seth Godin book, is to put it in Marketing. But for me, this is a philosophy book. But not the kind of polysyllabic tome of abstractions that make up many philosophy books, but a book of PRACTICAL philosophy. Seth posits that there has never before been a time in history when individuals can have so much practical--and positive--impact on the course of their lives, their company's life, and the lives of others.

In a series of sometimes related, sometimes tangential expositions on individuals who chose to follow their own vision, to buck trends, to play the heretic and to take risks--because their drive and purpose would not allow them NOT to take take the risks--Seth explicates how deciding to lead, to push boundaries and redefine structures has been transformative.

These accounts are inspiring, but for me, the meat of the matter is that Seth invites (actually, cajoles) YOU to be next, meaning that movements are made, motions set into action, stereotypes toppled, by you: leaders decide to lead, and leadership can come from anywhere--you!

The theme of the book is the creation of "tribes," advocating that the old version of top-down leadership no longer applies and that the new path to "selling" a concept or movement (or product) can only come about through the establishments of "tribes," groups that share a passion and understanding for the tribal ethos, whether that be for archery or caffeinated beverages or whatever thing or thought a tribe can gather around.

And that leadership comes when someone just steps forward and leads, directing the passion and opening up the tribe for its development. That someone could (and if you have the passion) and SHOULD be you. Or me.

Highly caffeinated philosophy--good stuff!

I like Seth's simple approach; non-complicated prose that resonates and grabs your attention because it is simple. And when you think about it, it should be that way. After all time is wasted when you have to invest too much of it in deciphering words. As he says in the book, go!

Seth Godin has done it again in providing motivation, inspiration and strategies in the challenging world we live in. Seth encourages us to create our own reality and leadership without waiting for others to create one for us.

awesome book. SEth Godin's ideas about society, work, people, relationships are all cutting edge.

Tribes - of people, followers, etc. People thrive on relationships, connectivity, interpersonal communications.

Out with the old, in with the new Industrial age versus Information/Conceptual age.

Check it out, fast/quick read w/ amazing insights.

We know this stuff already. We know that "ideas that spread win" and that "if you fit-in, you make it easier for your potential customers to ignore you." But we forget. The minute we step out of start-up mode and become "established" businesses, we become complacent, and we make it that much easier for competition to step in and steal our market segment.

Seth Godin reminds us that it was our passion that inspired us to get into entrepeneurship, and that we need to lead a tribe of passionate followers if we want to step up our operations. Tribes is a fast read, and well worth it.

Godin does an excellent job dissecting the makeup of movements/tribes. For those wanting to better understand how tribes work, grow, spread, and how leading them happens, then this could be a great next read for you.
