After Care is a beautiful story. You don’t have to be 40+ to enjoy and relate to Edie Williams and Tommy Carrigan. If you’ve endured a long term relationship break-up, survived an illness or just looking for an emotionally satisfying read, this is your book.

I think one of the many reasons why I fell in love with this story is because I connected with Edie.. she’s in her 40s with adult children, survived a marriage of 20+ years breakup and I can relate to her insecurities.

Within the first few pages I shed tears. I found myself practically crying one minute and then LAUGHING OUT LOUD the next.

It’s refreshing to have the main characters my age. I don’t have to feel like “Mrs. Robinson” lusting over Tommy! If going to Hawaii will guarantee I find my very own Tommy, I’d travel across the world!

The characters are realistic especially Edie.. ok maybe the Rock Star Men are not realistic but their characteristics, their traits and idiosyncrasies definitely are.

It’s not insta love and they rode into the sunset happily ever after story. L.B. Dunbar makes you fall in love with falling in love and suffer along the challenges of building a relationship and included how other members of each family’s reaction when the dynamics of two families change to become one.

This Book is going on my Top Reads of 2018 List. I wish I had time to re-read, I truly love this story.

*swoon* Tommy is definitely swoony goodness. I had a little trouble connecting w/ Edie. Tommy tells her she needs to be uncorked, and boy is he spot on! She's only two years older than me, but she presents as much older. This is part of the wonderful writing, as that's how she thinks of herself. She thinks of herself as ... OLD. And that was hard for me to wrap my head around, because I think of myself as soooo NOT old. I don't think of my friends & family who are 10 years older than me as OLD. So to have a character who is essentially my age think of herself in that manner... Yeah, I had a hard time connecting to her. I wanted to shake her, many times, and tell her to OPEN HER EYES!

And again, I think feeling that way toward her is part of what the author was going for. Because Tommy has his work cut out for him, getting her to loosen up, to take back her youthfulness, to LIVE.

There are some really great things to love in this story - the relationships, the banter, the overall feeling of love and hope. The one thing that kept this from being 5++ stars as far as a rating goes was the amount of back & forth, mostly in Edie's head, that was just a little too much for me. Everything else, though, from the overall plot, characters, and - AGAIN - writing... thumbs way up!! I enjoyed the story a lot!! : )

This book has everything I love in a romance novel! I appreciate that the main characters are over 40, they have their scars, bumps and bruises from failed relationships but they're still willing to embrace a new love. Edie is a breast cancer survivor, divorced mother of 2 young adults and now she's learning to live again after her battle with cancer. Tommy is a sexy silver fox, single and looking to mingle but he always puts his family first, including the young men in the band Collision that he manages. When on vacation in Hawaii Edie wasn't looking for a fling, just some bonding time with her son and daughter and Tommy wasn't looking for a sexy 43 yr old woman who kicked cancers butt and who's clearly been neglected in the love department! There time in Hawaii is the start of something unexpected, scary, painful at times, stressful but definitely worth it in the end. I liked that there were other relationships developing, struggling and loving throughout this story. A beautifully written story of love and loss, trust, strength and finding your self worth! I could go on and on because I loved this book so much! A must read for romance lovers of all ages! I hope to see more books written with the main characters in their 30's or 40's!

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review!

LB’s done it again! Served up the perfect antidote to the usual twenty-something dish of romance books. Now, don’t get me wrong, they’re nothing wrong with that genre, heck, I devour it regularly, but being in the group of women who are over that age group, it’s nice to change it up, once in a while. It keeps things real, and that’s what LB does best.
EdieWilliams is the woman in question here. She’s a newly divorced 40+ mother of two grown up kids and has recently been given the all clear in her struggle to fight breast cancer. She and her children are on vacation in Hawaii when she meets Tommy Carrigan.
Tommy isn’t as carefree as Edie thinks, he’s gone through his own losses and come out the other side. He’s in his forties as well and the manager of a well known band called Collision, although Edie had never heard of them. Sparks fly when they first meet, leaving Edie flustered and confused. As well as giving her the first… well, let’s keep that under wraps for now.
After Care took us through a lot of different aspects of life, which LB dealt with respectfully and with candour, even a little bit of humour. I loved Tommy and Edie, I was rooting for them from the first page to the last.
I can’t recommend this book enough. Grab your copy today.

After Care is the beautiful & HOT story of Tommy & Edie. Tommy is a 40+ manager of a band, while Edie, is a divorced mother of two, breast cancer survivor. He seems to love living the single life, while she's lost self confidence in her body after cancer. When they met, the sparks flew out of my kindle, but as they start the journey of a relationship, there are many ups and downs they have to navigate through. That's all that I'm giving away, because it was so much more than just a mere story, I don't want to give anything accidentally away. L.B. Dunbar's brilliant writing style is so original, that she smashes any boxes that romances that can fall into. And After Care is another original masterpiece that I fell in love with instantly, as it pulled me in from the get go. Not to mention, being my age, I love to be taken away with the 40+ set, which gives me hope on those down days of being divorced at my age. Tommy & Edie were fantastic hero/heroine that I fell in love with, who could be my friends in real life. And holy hell, were they HOT together during sexy times, as they lit it up! Plus, the cast of secondaries added more to the story as a whole. This story is one of those that I periodically read over and over again, and HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I love Rocker stories, and this book definitely plays off of that.  Tommy is the manager of an up and coming Rock Group.  Eddie is a divorcee, and mother of two.  They meet while on vacation in Hawaii.  Neither are looking for a relationship, and besides that, they live completely different lives.

Eddie is recovering, and reclaiming her life.  But it's gonna take something special to help her become who she knows she can be.  Tommy is everything she wants and needs.  He's hot, successful, and wants Eddie, despite everything that is going on in her life.  This has all of the makings of a fantastic vacation fling.  Until feelings get involved.

I love how amazing Tommy is with Eddie.  He is super supportive, and just what Eddie needs.  And I think Eddie is just what Tommy needs, too.

This story is just what you would expect, and totally unexpected, at the same time.  Its a great love story, but at times, I couldn't fathom a way for them to find their HEA together.  Its a fabulous example of finding love when you least expect it, reclaiming life after tragedy, and reinventing yourself as a mature adult.  Definitely a book I'd recommend to anyone!

A relatable story for us ladies over forty but anyone can enjoy! It was refreshing to have a female lead that wasn’t flawless but rather a beautiful survivor with scars and a past.

Edie is divorced, has grown children and she’s a cancer survivor. She’s vacationing in Hawaii with her kids before her oldest leaves to head to college later that year. She’s been through alot and doesn’t see how wonderful she is.

Tommy is the manager to a rock group on the cusp of stardom. He’s older as well, but still sexy and all alpha. He sees Edie, really sees her. Their attraction is instant and combustible.

These two start a relationship that’s just for fun while they vacation in Hawaii. But you can’t help how you feel. A vacation fling ends up being more. There’s a bunch of side story and characters that you will love. Tommy has secrets and needs to learn to open up and trust or it will tear them apart. And Edie needs to take a chance and take a leap of faith.

I loved this story. It’s wonderful to see a second chance at happiness. Watching Edie become who she was meant to be and finally get her HEA. These two had amazing chemistry and a beautiful journey to forever.

Earlier this year I had my first introduction to LB Dunbar when I got to read her Redemption Island Duet (which I absolutely loved.)  So when she offered me an ARC of After Care I was thrilled!  But I had put myself on a strict writing schedule and would only allow myself to get started on it if I met my goal... let me tell you, waiting to start this book was good motivation and it was well worth the work I put in to get to read it.

After Care's description definitely had my interest peaked.  Over 40 romance?!  That's me!  Silver fox?!  Yum!  From the first page Edie's story sucked me in.  She's just like so many of us woman.  Working so hard to maintain the strong, confident facade, while inside carrying the weight of so many worries on our shoulders.  I related to her immediately, although there were times when I wanted to scream, "No, Edie!"  Or give her a good girlfriend heart-to-heart.

The chemistry and heat between Edie and Tommy was enough to almost set my ereader on fire!  Holy guacamole, every time those two got together it was magic.  LB did an amazing job keeping every single intimate scene with these two lovers fresh and exciting and titillating.  This book was a brilliant romance that kept me up at night.  I laughed, I cried, a fanned myself.  It was a wonderful story that I know I'll read again.  I cannot wait for more from my new friend LB Dunbar.

What a wonderful and compelling story! Edie is 43 and has endured three years of hell, going thru a divorce from an alcoholic and cheating husband AND surviving every woman's fear of breast cancer. Oh and she's also raised two amazing children in the meantime. Obviously Edie is a fighter and one thing she's really good at is loving and nurturing her family. Edie's story gets interesting in a whole new way when she meets Tommy on a family vacation in Hawaii. Tommy is a former rock star managing his neice's husbands band. Tommy is all about loving and nurturing family too, and considers the band family as well. Edie and Tommy are made for one another. Chemistry sizzles and sparks ignite and there are some very sexy moments between Edie and Tommy. Of course life and reality hit when vacation time is over and the story continues to bring the reader right inside with the characters. I loved Edie so much! And Tommy was that guy we all hope to have by our side once the kids are grown and starting independent lives of their own. I would love to read more about the single band members and Edies kids and revisit other characters as well. That's a big hint on more books about this intermingled family please.

Sexy, smart, and heartfelt romance between 2 +40 year olds!
Omg!! This is a new taboo!!
Imagine... 2 adults close in age discovering insta-attraction that led to much more!
We need more characters like Tommy and Edie in the book world. The writing was easy to follow, smart and insightful.
What made this romance so unique and special were the characters Tommy and Edie.
Tommy was absolutely delicious.
Edie was a true heroine!
The characters were flawlessly developed, relatable and absolutely fantabulicious!!
Their story came to life seamlessly. They gave us front and center seats to a steamy and touching story of life, love and taking chances!
It wasn't just their age that made their story so unique. It was their boldness, their honesty and fearlessness to be their age, own it, and embrace it. They showed us to grab life, take a chance on love and dismiss the stupidity!
Even the secondary characters added to the complexity of the characters.
We have seen characters in this age bracket before, but the man is normally after a much younger woman, or the older woman with a much younger guy.
This insightful story of life and love is a must read!

Aftercare - L B Dunbar
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My first LB Dunbar book but I am seriously impressed.

An absolute pleasure to read a hot romance for an over 40’s couple. So nice to read realistic scenarios and inner monologues from the characters and really connect with them. Don’t get me wrong, there is some serious heat between the ex-rockstar Tommy and the PA Edie but the beautiful part of the story is the undercurrent of true family.
Edie has survived breast cancer as well as a painful divorce, so there’s her added personal dilemma of questioning her own self worth constantly but her children, Maisie and Caleb are brilliant.
Tommy is a hard nut to crack, with his alpha protective shield always in place around his band family but his reaction and subsequent interest in Edie was rich with wonderfully quirkiness and sweetness and a huge helping of off the charts hot.
Secrets between Edie and Tommy create some tense situations but in true romantic style, L B Dunbar gives us a HEA that’s perfection.

Totally fell in love with these characters and I’m now looking for more LB Dunbar to read.

After Care has left me reeling. Absolutely reeling, in a good way. The power that this story beholds is astonishing. I have not felt this way about a book in a VERY long time. This is contemporary romance done right. After Care is raw, it’s real, it’s …. Love.

After everything that Edie has been through in her years, she needed a trip of a lifetime. She treated herself and her two adult children to Hawaii. Something she never thought that she would have. Edie also never imagined that she would meet a man that would change her. Change her in ways that she never thought possible. Tommy pushed her to the edge and made her jump. He is a hot, hunk of a man and a Rock Star to boot. Talk about swoon. Oh my gosh … this man. This man is who you will want in your bed.

The characters are one word and one word only. Family. “Family always says I’m sorry.”
You feel one with them. You laugh, you cry, you relate. L.B. did a bang up job, per usual. She sucked me in with The Sex Education of M.E. and I continue to read anything that she puts out. If you have not been introduced to her work, please do yourself a favor and pick up After Care today.

A beautiful journey about finding love later in life when you truly don’t expect it. Edie finds herself a single mother over 40 and soon to be an empty nester. Having just survived battling cancer and a divorce, she takes her kids to Hawaii for vacation. Who would have thought that hanging out at the pool they would make friends with Ivy and end up connected to one of the hottest bands in the country which makes their vacation even more amazing. Edie is captivated by Tommy, the band’s manager and Ivy’s uncle and she allows herself to be free and enjoy a vacation fling. But when it comes time to leave, did she really find a fling? Or did her heart get involved? Edie’s journey to life in her 40’s and after cancer is refreshing. When her family befriends the band, this opens up so many new avenues for her and the kids while also providing support to the band members in unique ways. Tommy’s charm is magical and so hard to resist. I felt very connected to these characters and loved how this journey unfolded with all the trials, tribulations and joy life can bring. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

After Care is a deliciously sexy, totally engaging, wonderfully written story about second chances at life and finding love after 40. As one of the over 40 crowd myself, it’s refreshing to see characters who are comfortable enough in their own skin to use their years of experience to see beyond the stigmas of age. On the surface, Edie and Tommy may not appear to have much in common, but that’s where the beauty of maturity comes in. Edie has lived a conservative, midwestern existence. Tommy is somewhat of a rock music legend and travels the world as the manager of a rock band. Their chance meeting in Hawaii is not only sizzling hot, it’s beautiful. Edie steps out of her comfort zone with Tommy’s understanding and encouragement. Who wouldn’t? His sex appeal jumps off the page! Tommy allows himself to reach out and grab hold of love, something he’s denied himself for years. Their angst is believable and relatable.
Ms. Dunbar’s secondary characters are equally interesting and well developed, adding the perfect amount of drama and surprise. Five stars for this yummy story I devoured in a day.

4 STARS

This book is unique in that while the main characters are over 40 and falling in love, the entire story is more than just about Edie and Tommy.  It is a multi-generational story of Ivy and Gage, Edie and Tommy, Maise, West and Caleb.  I loved how everything and everyone intertwined to create an amazing and flawlessly told story.

Being a breast cancer survivor myself, I appreciated the position Evy was in, commiserated with her and cheered her on as she explored new adventures with Tommy.  I can only imagine how hard it is to start over after cancer and divorce, and LB did an amazing job of telling this story.

My only issue with this book is that I wish she didn't focus so much on age.  But if that's what she was going for, I would have hoped she made the age gaps between generations a little more believable.  Tommy little sister (45 years oldish, it's never directly stated, Tommy was 40 something, so I assumed) is Ivy's (28 years old) mom??  And someone thinks Edie, at 43, is a grandma to 6 and 3 year olds??

Don't even get me started on the cover model.... yummy.

“You’ll never be an excuse, darlin’. Always my reason.” Bats eyes and swoons...I want Tommy Carrigan!
So my my first introduction to L.B. Dunbar was The Sex Education of M.E. and I friggin’ loved it! I haven’t found many authors who write romance for the over 40 club like me. Edie, breast cancer survivor and single mom on vacation to celebrate...chance meeting with Tommy Carrigan....former singer/songwriter, now band manger and father figure to his beautiful niece Ivy.
Instant attraction between these two...Tommy is no stranger to cancer, and he puts Edie very much at ease...being a bit self conscious with her reconstruction after having mastectomy.
Tommy is a lover ladies...he’s a sexy, sensual and tatted silver fox....and he likes sex and lots of it! Edie, after being divorced for some time....is awakened sexually....phew!
I will say this....Gage pissed me off A LOT...but totally redeemed himself at the end.
I am kind of hoping to get more of the supporting cast of characters, not sure if that is in the cards, but I will cross my fingers...hint hint...West and Maisy?
Overall, very good read, I can’t say again how happy I am to read a romance involving the over 40 generation.

The queen of over-forty romance has done it again. Tommy is the ultimate silver fox, and Edie is the perfect mature heroine.
I was drawn into this book from page one. Who wouldn’t want to fantasize about a tropical vacation fling with a gorgeous, bit mysterious forty-something man?
I love that Edie has lived through things and come out on the other side. This story was as much about her rediscovering and reinventing herself as it was finding Tommy. And then let’s talk about Tommy... gorgeous, sexy, sure of himself in so many ways. Sure, he had his own demons to tackle and finding Edie was just what he needed to rediscover a part of himself he kept locked away.
I love Ms.Dunbar’s writing style for this novel. It was a more mature but definitely hot and sexy. She took me on a range of emotions while reading, and I found I could not put this book down. I was messaging my friends while reading, telling them how much they needed to read this book. I cannot recommend this book more highly! I hope that Ms. Dunbar keeps bringing us more mature heroines and silver foxes in the future!

I posed the question in a book group, "What books have you read that was well written, had more mature characters, the perfect amount of conflict, and it became a re-read favorite?" A few ladies recommended After Care and they nailed it.

I started After Care in the early afternoon and finished before midnight. It was a "finish in one sitting" kind of read. I loved that this author really made you fall in love with the whole cast of characters, not just Edie and Tommy. She made all of her characters MC's and has me begging for more time with them. Edie and Tommy were so great together. After battling the big C and kicking it's a$!, Edie takes a well earned trip of a lifetime. It just so happens to be a trip that would forever transform her world into something she wouldn't have dreamt she could have at the age of 43.

If you're looking for a book with amazing, mature, and relatable characters, look no further. This is the book you want. <3

"Sometimes fine wine needs to breathe. You've breathed enough. Now it's time to savor you."

This is unlike any romance I have read before and I loved it. Edie and Tommy are both in their early forties and this is their love story. It is not young love, but jade and experienced with wrinkles and sagging skin.
This story should appeal to readers of all ages and serves as a reminder that there is no age limit or expiration date on romance. Women don't have to settle for less than what they are worth.
The two main characters are surrounded by their family throughout the story. These characters add moments of levity, sweetness, and frustration that enhance and add depth to the story. L.B. Dunbar throws in just enough twists, turns, and unexpected moments to keep readers on the edge of their seats.
My favorite thing about reading is when I feel like I am part of the story. L.B. Dunbar, I was poolside.

Loved, Loved, Loved this book from LB Dunbar. I loved that both Tommy and Edie were older characters because everyone needs a Tommy, when the time is right in their life. Tommy is a band manager and Edie is a divorcee, mother of 2, and breast cancer survivor. She and her kids are on vacation in Hawaii when Tommy crosses her path. They have an instant connection that is super hot and super sexy. They continue their vacation relationship but both wonder what will happen once they go home since they live in different cities. During their time after the vacation, they learn what is important to each of them together and separately. And hopefully continue their time together. This was a great love story that felt very real with obstacles coming at them every which way. Thank you for this wonderful story LB!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book, It was so different that I had a hard time putting it down, so many different story lines going on. A few editing errors that need to be corrected, but I enjoyed the characters alot. Please tell me there will be another book that works on the other characters???? This would have been a 5 star had there not been silly editing errors. I enjoyed the fact it was about an older couples, I get tired of reading about all the 20 yr olds, I read this as a KU but probably would have paid the purchase price for it.

What a refreshing and intriguing storyline where the main characters are over 40. Edie is a cancer survivor, and a divorcee, who is in Hawaii on vacation with her two children who are on the brink of leaving the nest. While there they meet Ivy and her family of rock stars, and sexy silver haired Tommy, who is Ivy’s uncle. There is an instant attraction between these two, but will Edie take a chance on them having a relationship with her insecurities? Will Tommy’s rock star lifestyle put Edie off? No spoilers; this is a definite must read, you will not be disappointed! This is an emotional and heart-warming story, which is well written and flows seamlessly, and I was hooked and intrigued throughout. I highly recommend this talented authors’ work for all readers, and look forward to reading more of her work!

I enjoyed this book - the story, the characters, the promise of redemption and life after trauma. The age of the characters allowed for a more interesting plot with additional subplots that could not have happened with 20-year-olds. For me, the more complex story made it more interesting and more real. The writing was tight, even though the editing and proofreading needs improvement. Overall, I recommend this book if you like romance stories with complex characters.

Tommy is the manager of a hot rock band, and a star in his own right. Both in their 40's they prove what us 40-somethings already know.... 40 isn't dead, it's just experienced....and there is still so much more life to live...

This book was so amazing and more!!! I loved Edie from the beginning and can relate to her self conscious issues. I also loved Tommy from the beginning of meeting him.
Honestly I don't know how many ppl agree with me, but I would love to read more about this family, Lawson included!!! Is there something in the works for it?!?!

Oh how I loved this book. These characters are so refreshing and their story is addictive from start to finish. Not only are Tommy and Edie absolutely amazing so it their family. You can't but help falling in love with the whole gang. I think I could read endless books about this crew. Amazing!! Can't wait to read about Tommy's friend!!
