The challenge for any worthwhile project is finishing strong. I would recommend this book to every leader who has worked extremely hard and yet been dissatisfied with the end result. It may just be a matter of better execution and this book will help with fresh ideas.

This book was written with conservative values still ruling the day. It was a breath of fresh air in that it still held people responsible for the success or failure of an entity. Just as a ship needs only one captain, management style used to recognize bottom line decision makers leading by decisive paths to go based on expertise and track record. Now a days, liberal mindset in Washington becomes diseased with 'paralysis by analysis' where committee after committee must waste valuable executive time in attempting to make a decision, where years before, an experienced leader motivated execution from Jr. Execs towards a certain finite vision.
Sadly, ... management style has changed where a leader or manager is merely a 'coach' coaxing performance out of lack luster employees who have learned that mediocrity or substandard performance still pays the same salary, moreover, hiding in anonymity through union representation or grievances toward those that attempt to motivate by a doctrine applieds to all of 'expect and inspect'.
Overall, this book professes the techniques that once were successful in a rational, conservative vein, ... I pray that we return to a more structured, top led management style in 2016, ... both in Federal Bureacracy down to the smalles retail concern, ... its what made this country great to begin with.

One of the best business books I have ever read. The mixture of anecdotes, first hand experience, and high-level business knowledge is combined so well it reads like a novel. I purchased multiple copies for the managers in my company. The knowledge derived from reading this book was put to immediate use and has shown immediated benefits. Very worthwhile.

The book was an excellent presentation of the most critical discipline required for an organization to succeed. We have observed the flawed business fundamentals of the dot coms, World Com's, Enron's, etc. Strategy is just strategy. Tactical is just tactical. And while both are important, execution is the most critical component.
My only criticism of the book is that it did not go deep enough. The authors are respected business leaders, and I would have appreciated more detailed insight. They should consider Part II.

Execution is a bridge between strategy and results which is highly dependent on linking people, strategy and operation process and making sure they work in sync to produce results.
Its an ok sort of book to get some understanding on strategy execution and getting things done. Lots of people might feel its common sense but these days its not very common, so reading this book is bound to help clear the clutter in your mind and think about execution in a more structured way. Some good examples are also presented throughout the book.

I have talked about execution for years and this book made me re-think what I have been talking about. I saw the best of my past execution with the added insights of practical examples. Business success in the current environment will be based on these concepts. If business management does not do these things and do them well future success of those business units will be tentative at best. I'm a believer.

As a consultant, I see first hand the situations discussed in this book...the lack of realism in planning, the huge white binders, etc. This book should be mandatory reading for anyone in any leadership position, or even those on their way towards one. Insightful, probing, and well written.

Plenty of practical lessons and applications of leadership, organizational effectiveness and great management from proven expert leaders. I highly recommend this book for managers, workres, members of functional teams and anybody who really wants to be good at leadership and management.

I've bought this book because all of my professional life has benn devoted to getting things done.
The contents of the book, as far as I've gone trough it, are very satiscfatory and provide both confirmation to my experience and a very good systematization of the subject.
But the issue I'd like to highlight with this review is that I've bought a used copy of the book, defined in the ad 'as new', for a very cheap price and the ad was....completely true.
I've got an almost brand new hardcover copy of the book!
A recognition to the professionality and organization of the seller.

As noted in the book we are almost inundated with books about strategy development, innovation, people development etc. Doubtlessly these are all very important, and many leaders are well-versed in these. So why do we still see so many failures? It's all about actually executing strategies, in breaking them down into manageable components that can be acted upon and regularly monitored. It's also about having the right people in the right places to "make it happen" with their teams. Overall an excellent book that painfully brought out many problems in our management activities and styles. To be reread regularly.

This is a classic in the field of corporate strategy formulation and execution. I bought it for all our managers and best customers. I often refer to it before strategy and quarterly reviews. A must have !
