Another great Sci-fi book by Jasper T. Scott. Being a pilot and engineer as my two life professions I have found most authors have little or no grasp of the technical details required to prevent this type of story from being unrealistic and hokey. That is a major turnoff to me! Jasper does an outstanding job and will listens and evaluate input
Although I have been fighting health problems lately which have limited my reading I highly recommend you read this excellent book and follow this author.

I have read other books by this author, which are more along the lines of traditional space opera, and very well written. Because of past experience I picked up this one both because of familiarity with Scott's writing and the premise looked intriguing.
Space Opera can be a well trodden path, with plots and characters that can often seem similar. Broken Worlds leaves the path and opens up a whole new area to explore. From the original premise to the fantastic and complex universe, this book is just a joy to read. The writing is crisp, the story moves along quickly, the characters are unique, and the entire thing just gels. At age 64 I have read a TON of sci-fi and fantasy. Seeing a well put together worldscape that is different from the tried and true is always exciting to me. There are times when you want to lose yourself in huge books full of complexity, e.g., Steven Erickson, and there are times you just need a well written adventure that is like riding a roller coaster. I am already getting my ticket ready for my second ride!

Jasper has written another sci-fi thriller chock-full of lots of characters supported by a cast of "people" from all corners of the universe, some good, some bad, and some who leave you wondering. There is no doubt who is the good guy who has gone to incredible lengths to save his daughter, with recognizable pre-teen emotions. I have long wondered about the common-sense or lack thereof with regard to freezing yourself to be woken at just the correct moment in time to take advantage of medical advances. Myself, a true believer in "Murphy's Law", I worry about a world-wide blackout, or someone tripping over my plug, or an insane dictator from this world or another who simply couldn't care less about taking care of the medical needs of frozen folks! But I am a softy when it comes to a parent willingly sacrificing everything for the sake of their child. So yes, I was hooked and could not wait for Part 2!

An interesting approach to an odd future. The protagonist, Darius Drake, arranges for his terminally ill daughter to be put into cryogenic storage until she can be cured and also joins her. Expecting to be awoken in 50 to a 100 years, he is shocked to discover he has been stored for more than a thousand years. Copen is not afraid to kill main characters and that breathes life into his novel that strongly draws upon traditional science fiction and science fantasy elements.
Parts of the book are annoying - Darius is serving a psychotic leader (a Darth Vader type who MAY be using his skills for good), and that gets old quickly, but all in all it is worth reading.
It will be interesting to see if Darius lives up to his namesake and ends up being a good king at the end of the series.

Enjoyed this book very much. New concept to me. Hero is a thousand years out of his time, having put himself band his daughter into cryo until her cancer could be cured. Something happens to earth and they become salvage for aliens. Darius will do anything to save his daughter, including getting involved with a controlling, manipulative humanoid who may or may not be worse than all the other warmongers in the universe. At times I got bogged down in a lot of the explanation of science and scenery, but I guess it is necessary to the plot. Can't wait to see how Darius becomes the answer to setting the universe aright, which seems to be the only reasonTanik is keeping him and Cassandra alive.

When Darius Drake arranges to Cryovac himself in a gamble to buy time for a cure to be discovered for his terminally ill daughter, Cassandra, he could not ever have imagined what that action would mean for them both!
For reasons they do not understand, both Darius and Cassandra have to face and react to a new reality that demands everything they have to give both mentally and physically but why was their entire Cryovac storage hanger transported to a far distant universe in a time past even Darius’s wildest dreams? Will they both be able to survive the brutal and inhuman society into which they and their fellow Cryovac inhabitants have been unloaded in mass? Why were the Cryovac inhabitants taken from their storage hanger on Earth to awake in a freezing cold, damaged ship hundreds of light years away? Why is the ship littered with dead crew members, and what killed them? How can Darius keep his daughter safe and get her the help she needs when he can’t even find clothing or a way to keep them from freezing?
Broken Worlds: The Awakening is a masterfully written first part of an epoch taking place in a post Earth universe, where world alliances, rebels, Cygnians, and Revenants all pose possible threats to Darius and his Daughter. With intriguing twists and turns, the reader, just like Darius and his daughter, will not be able to figure out who to trust or which group presents the greatest threat to their survival. Mr. Scott is a deft weaver of suspense and keeps the pace roaring through a thoroughly good read that leaves some critical questions unanswered to build links to the planned next books in the series, but answers others, that niggle the brain, with novel unexpected realities. This is a Star Wars-like epoch that will both entertain and delight! I highly recommend this award-winning author’s newest Science Fiction Gem, Broken Worlds: The Awakening, because it is written intelligently, has a multi-facet both adults and youths will fall in love with Scott’s flawed but admirable characters who possess the latent personal strength that none of their prior experiences could prepare them to meet.

I like the experience of new worlds and unique situations the Scott brings to my world. I can relate because an effort has been made to tie our known world and our known technology, but from there is a fast-paced, free-fall ride. The fast pace keeps one in page turning suspense, but sometimes the pace leaves some unanswered gaps in the character development and the storyline. Now this may be an unfair judgement, as this is the first book in hopefully a prolonged series, in which the answers to some gaps may be covered in future books. All in all, this is a very good story and I eagerly look forward to the next installment.

I liked this book but there were a few characters I thought would have added to the story line especially the Android. I hope to see him as a hero in part two maybe. I think the daughter was a pretty brave kid and her character needed a bit more fleshing out. All in all I would recommend this book. Also I am excited about book two and will be reading it. Way to go Mr Scott! Support indie artists.

Excellent and very different plot. For the most part, well written and action driven. Some was too technical for me, but I am an old trekki, so might just be my age. This made some lag for me, but very little. I was up until 4:00 a.m. because I couldn't put it down. Some great twists and turns, and I was left wanting more, yet satisfied with the ending. The different characters are human and alien and well defined. Scott, the author, put much thought and tremendously hard work into this book. Keep writing. I'll be watching for you.

I enjoyed this story and await the next episode. I do have a problem with authors who have a character oblivious to all the people he is getting killed in his single minded obsession to protect someone he loves. Particularly when ever third chapter is devoted to a recap of the obsession. I guess all the other people he gets killed don't matter to him as he never feels remorse.

Must read book for anyone looking for space swashbuckling action! Will admit I couldn't interject myself into a real good visualization of worlds, ships or action taken by characters until towards end. Really could see it then- almost a Jedi like figure in Tamil but is he good or bad or something else? Will Darius and Dyara just be Tanik's tools or become heroes of another stripe? Would have liked Gatticus the Android to have stayed within story but it's the author's vision that counts. Came within a whisker of 5 stars and can't wait to see next part of this adventure

The title promised a Sci-Fi novel, and that confused me at first. In the beginning I wondered what kind of novel I was reading, 'where is this taking me !' It was like driving on a forest road not knowing what comes next, if anything at all, all those trees, you know. Then a little later, half asleep (a pun perhaps), I wake up when the Sci in Sci-Fi hits full force.
From then it is nonstop action until the last page. I haven't discovered who truly is the bad guy/s, or the good guys, Guess, I have to read the next book in the series for that.

This is the best book about cryogenic since I read The First Immortal many years ago. Great characters that get you really involved in the story. A well off dad makes the decision to have his 12 year old daughter placed in cryogenic sleep for 50 years until her cancer can be cured. He uses his wealth to get himself into cryogenic sleep also. Instead of being awakened after 50 years 1000 years go by. They are awakened to a strange new world of aliens and space travel. What a great story. I cannot wait for the next book.

Hi Jasper. Thanks for another good book. The concept is interesting and original. The storyline and pace are just right. The ending is logical and suggests that the next book can be exciting. Still, I had a hard time trying to relate to most of the characters. Jasper, you have mastered illusive skills of SciFi writing, but your previous books had a soul and this one needs a resurrection to be on par with that high bar you had set yourself. It is a great material and I'm sure you can make it right. Sincerely, VK

Non stop action with life and death struggles against truly terrifying monsters and revelations one after another about the universe these people from ancient earth of our time encounter in this dystopian future. I'm eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. The story is so thought provoking that scenes keep replaying in my mind and I expect that I'll be reading it again to ensure my desire to read straight through to the end didn't miss anything.

I have also been following Jasper's work for some time now.. A great beginning to a great new series. He continues to amaze me and always makes me think. Is the character a bad guy who occasionally does something good or a good guy who is forced to do bad things for the right reason. Don't be too quick to judge, in this book or in real life. Well done Jasper.

Not your typical cryo adventure . Didn't expect to wake up in outerspace and then things really get bad . Love the storyline and the characters . Description of living and traveling in space is very good . Lots of blood and gore and some really nasty aliens. Look forward to book 2.

Very fun read. Unique story and plot. Surprised me which isn't easy. Good ratio of battle vs character and story line. Only critique. ..too much hesitation from some characters in dire situations ie you don't day dream or speculate when a loved ones life is in the balance. Read it, you will enjoy!

It's the start of interesting adventure the bad guys are really bad or maybe their good? It's about the love of a dad's and daughter a budding romance with comrade in arms and so much more. It's one of those hard to put down books that doesn't come by often. Read it you'll like it.

Found this one a little difficult to follow at times - too many bad guys to be sure of who's who. Maybe I need a little more on the front end...or some build up of the ne players before the big wake up. Will be reading the next book because I want to figure out the players & end goals.

The plot intrigued me enough to choose this title. I often have a difficult time absorbing and keeping up with all the facets that come with reading about an entirely new universe, life as we know it sort of scenario; names of new species, planets, the new science and tech, etc. I enjoyed the way the author presented his story, and did in such a way that I was not forcing my brain to hold all the new information. I was pleased with the way it unfolded, and verbally expressed my disappointment when it ended. April is a ways off but I'm eager to hear the next part of the story.

Darius Drake wanting nothing more than to save his 14 year old daughter Cassandra from a slow death from terminal cancer, puts all of his faith, and his wealth, into cryogenics. Betting that breakthroughs in medical science after fifty years could save his only child, Darius had the two of them frozen in the Mayo Clinic’s Deepest Vaults, to be resurrected only when the cancers can be safely treated, giving them the chance at a full life again.
This common Sci-Fi theme is shattered by the fact that Darius and his daughter wake up 1000 years later, not in the hospital, but on a Starship, far from Earth, among not dozens of other cryo patients, but thousands, stolen by deadly Aliens who are the dominant species in the Galaxy. Now they must learn to adapt to Aliens, spaceships, battles, humans on the world they are orbiting, interpersonal issues with the other cryogenic patients who are being revived as fast as possible by the leader of the rebellion, so much to learn in so little time, a rollicking new Universe by award-winning author Jasper T. Scott, you will want to rush to own this book for yourself!

EXCELLENT read. Multiple twists and turns outdoor me turning the pages. Would have liked a bit more character development on the primary pages and more information about some of the other species but overall a very good story, can't wait for the next book to come out.

This is an exceptionally great new space opera. It does take a little time to get going, but the author is laying a very concrete foundation for not only this book, but the ones to follow. Very interesting characters, not to mention an incredibly fascinating premise.

Just the right amount of action, plot twists, back stabbing, pining, good and bad aliens. What more can you ask for in sci-fi? Actual, it is much better writing than I have read lately. The only complaint is our hero didn't get the girl, lol.

Probably the best part of this book is the story. It’s really interesting and it evolves in a fairly organic way. I’m interested to read the next part of the story. I gave it 3 stars mostly because the execution, the writing and character development, is pretty average.

I have read almost every book by the author. I went back and read his early works on the store while waiting for new material. Even though the writing was not as good early on. They kept my interest because the story itself was good. I also appreciate that although there are characters who cuss in the story, it's mainly one character who is not in the conversation of the book most of the time. Others might say something here and there. But it's driven more by the stress of a situation rather than being normal conversation. I've only read one of his books that I got tired of the amount of it and skipped the rest of the series. I have found other authors who write interesting books. But I get tired of excessive cussing or detailed sex encounters. It's not what I'm looking for when I sit down to read a book. I'm looking for an interesting story. And I'm finding one in this series.
