This series of books have to be the best I had read in years. I couldn't put it down. I got so involved with the characters. I am totally addicted to the Outlander series. I have just purchased books 5-8. Have just started them and I can't imagine they could be any better than these first ones were. Read this series. You will love it.
I am totally in love with Jamie and Clair as a couple and Jamie as a man. I can't say enough about how wonderful these books are.

The only thing is paperbacks are difficult to hold the pages flat while reading but I thought they were good for the price I paid for them! Enjoying getting further into the story of Outlander after being introduced to it from the series on Starz!

So I'm reading Book 2 and get to page 522 and page 523 is missing - I'm staring at page 587 instead! Of course any refund or return is beyond the window. What a joke! These books are too big for this set to be packaged this way. Book covers are too flimsy and books are too bulky. Don't recommend!

what is there not to say about Outlander. Its amazing and will leave you wanting to run around ravishing every man you see wearing a kilt. I find myself day dreaming of trips to Scotland in search of some wild red headed highlander boy and forgetting all about any previous life I have known. Its pretty easy to get so wrapped up into these books that you forget to do mundane things like shower, or sleep. Say goodbye to any cooking or cleaning or general organization of your home. World War III could be going on all around you and you'll find your self saying "just give me a minute please until you bomb me, Im almost done with this chapter!!!" There might need to be some rehab or self help groups involved when I finally do finish this series, I might get by with just some prozac, but hopefully I survive the finalization of ending the last book. Wish me luck

I feel in love with the series after watching it on Starz. OMG, I was addicted after the first episode. To keep me sane while waiting for season 2 I bought the books. The books are so well written. I loved reading every bit of the books. My only complaint is not having enough time to really sit down and dedicate to reading them. The story is so interesting and it captivates you from the beginning. Having to put it down after so many pages is a tease. I am not a huge fan of fiction, but I love Europe, history, and well-written stories. This one ticked all the right boxes!

I love these books so much! This is my all time favorite book series. I'm so excited to finally have my own copies. It was really affordable. I know some people don't like the "small print". I found absolutely no problem with it. Actually I much prefer these to the hardcover ones I originally read first. These paperbacks are small enough to take anywhere with you. I am 100% satisfied with not only the quality of the books but the convenience of them. I am in love! Now I just have to go buy the rest of them!

It is nice to have the paperbacks to carry around. However, the print is small and seems to rub off. Other than that, I am happy I bought the paperbacks to have in emergency. I plan on buying the hardback versions to save my eyes.

These books are ridiculously small - I don't even have to open them to know that the print would be unreadable. I've already read these books from the library, and the copies that I had from the library were large and thick. These books aren't much bigger than a 4 x 6 index card, and are about 1.5 inches thick. Dianna Gabaldon uses A LOT of words, and I can't even imagine how tiny the print must be to fit it into such a small binding!

I first read the Outlander series over ten years ago. the store will probably mark this review as "not a verified purchase" although I have purchased the Outlander series in hard cover, paperback, audio, and now the television DVD season series. Oh, and digital version for my kindle. I feel compelled to own Outlander in every version. The Outlander series has stood the test of time for me as my favorite series, my favorite author, the story that still gives me thrills no matter how many times I read it. Jamie is my book boyfriend and no other hero will ever take his place in my heart. Claire is a brave, smart role model for strong women and I admire her greatly. Five stars is not enough. It is so wrong that I haven't written a review before this. I guess I never felt I could write a review that would do it justice.

The best way for me to review is to tell you a story. I had a long commute to work and I was listening to "Dragonfly in Amber" on audio book. I'd never read the book before but I loved Outlander and I was very caught up in the story. I came to that very critical scene toward the end, a crisis in the story. I was devastated and I began screaming while driving down a three lane expressway. Other cars passing me thought I was nuts. I'm laughing. I bet I looked pretty scary. Now that's a five star book. Actually, five stars is not enough, no amount of stars is enough. Very few books in my lifetime have effected me this strongly. Bravo.

Caught up from the very beginning. What an adventure! Could not put it down....read all four first volumes one right after another. Unforgettable romance, high adventure, bloody, graphic violence. Vivid scenes U will never forget-----and that was BEFORE I saw the tv series on dvd. Thank you for an amazing experience, Ms. Gabaldon.

Sexy, romantic and stunning work. It scoops you up and makes you fall in love with Scotland. Oh and Jamie and Claire, too. At the end of the series I wept because I miss my friends that I call family. Yes, my kids know and they understand.

Really enjoyed this book and it brought my love for reading back! It has adventure, love, time travel, wars pretty much everything to make a fantastic book. At first the 1,000 words scared me but it is such a page turner that it just flys by. I recommend this to anyone 18 years or older due to the explicit sex scenes and graphic battle scenes. It is kind a more dialed down version of game of thrones. The characters are very relatable and care and love them very step of the way. The author has a very good way of describing every detail and the connection they have with their surroundings and other characters. I strongly hope you read the book!

Outstanding author - all the novels inter-related to provide a comprehensive saga. Books are enjoyable and narration is excellent; the TV series compliments it for the full package. As most fans will state ... well worth multiple re-reads for each time something new is gleaned.

One of my all time favorite series that is now also a series on TV. This is my 3rd time through the entire series and I still find detail that I missed. Looking forward to the next book, that is expected some time in the future. Since each of these books are many pages long and require a great deal of historical research, the wait is always worth it.

Diana Gabaldon is an excellent storyteller. HOWEVER, she obviously has some kind of sick obsession with spanking and whipping, of adults and of children. She also loves describing rape and consensual sexual violence. I learned to skip these whipping and rape sections. Her descriptions of what Jack Randall does to Jamie Fraser is a form of mental pollution that will linger in my brain for years. I really wish I had skipped these, but I figured out too late the art of skipping Gabaldon's most disturbed writing. Her apparent approval of spanking children and subtle defence of it, cloaked in fiction, sickens me.

Gabaldon also likes describing sickness and injury and surgery in vivid, grisly, gory detail. I don't enjoy this kind of thing at all, so I skip these sections also.

What I do like in the Outlander series, is the humour, romance, characters, originality, skilled rendering of human nature, history, great plot lines and unsurpassed storytelling.

If you are like me, and you have a vivid imagination, kind heart, deep love and respect for children, if you have experienced truly beautiful, sensual love-making and therefore know how pathetic and unsexy is the so-called erotic, slightly S&M activity modern media thinks of as sex, you can enjoy Gabaldon's writing if you learn how to skim through the mind pollution sections.
