I LOVE Outlander, books & TV series, but what a disappointment to open the package to find all eight books half the size of the library version I’m currently reading, and the print is so small that it’ll take away all the joy of reading. I’m too big a fan to keep these, will return them and buy properly formatted books.

The series gets 5 stars, but the seller gets 1 star for deceptive advertising. The packaging isn't as advertised. The ad says this is an "8 book boxed set" That is false. The boxed set only consists of books 1-4, and books 5-8 are loose. Books 1-4 in my set have higher quality covers than 5-8. I like things to match, so if I would have known this, I would have purchased at a physical bookstore instead.

I have been a fan of Diana Gabaldon and the Outlander series from the beginning. I would eagerly await the next installment of the saga. Personally, her writing style appeals to me, and I've always found the story fascinating. I had read the entire series as it was released, and this is a series that I wanted in my personal collection. This complete collection allowed me to get the series all at once. Highly recommended!

Exciting plot with lots of twists and turns, vivid description, characters come to life with carefully developed personalities. As soon as I finish one book I start on the next one. I just can't put it down!

Love this series. There is thoughtful care taken to be true to the history of the time period. And although the writing is not deep, the characters are well developed, and it is packed with action, romance, and suspense.

Incomparable! I read the series as it came out and lost a summer reading the first few! And Iwill read anything that Ms. Gabaldon writes. I'm so glad it became the TV series, and now people won't think I'm completely nuts when I rave about this book series.

I began reading this series many years ago when recommended to me by a friend. I think at that time there were only two or three in the series and I was actually panting for the next one to come out. The problem is that these books set such a high bar that all other books, with a few exceptions, don't measure up on the enjoyment scale.

I want to say to those who have read the series and have commented here on the TV show and have found fault with it, that the TV show follows the books very closely and hits all of the high points. In any book that is made into a movie or tv series much detail is left out especially in a series as action packed as Outlander. It would take many years and billions of dollars to film the in all detail. I am amazed at how well done the TV series is and am not in any way disappointed except that we have to wait so long for the the comming seasons of episodes. It would be wonderful if they did it like a soap opera and had it on every day. Lots of people would be calling in sick to work. LOL

It's the same with Game of Thrones. There is so much detail in the books that is left out yet the TV series is wonderfully done hitting all of the high points. And really the continuity is better on the tv show. Poldark is another series that is fablously done. but not to the extent that Outlander and Game of Thrones is but PBS probably has a smaller budget. That being said PBS has some of the best programming on TV and I'll reference Downton Abbey as just one small example.

SO people my recommendation would be that if you have not read the series go ahead and watch it on STARZ then read the books. You will not be disappointed in either. I promise.

I was introduced to these books when there were only three books....Bored at a summer party, a frriend hatted on and on about the series. Wow! was I glad I visited Barnes & Noble!
I waited for and hungrily devoured each book as a new one came out! Once The TV series showed up,I found myself longing for the "real" Jamie and Claire once again, and read through the entire series a second time onmy Kindle! Amazing storytellin!

Been a fan since 1999 or 2000, can't remember exactly when I read the first book. Re-read them when I found it about the series -- I rarely re-read books. Absolutely worth every hour spent emersed in Gabaldon's world. Her writing is intelligent, her story lines are well researched and brilliantly thought out, and her stories are just plan entertaining. My recommendation is that you buy them and just read fit the sake of experiencing a writer who knows how to use the language, has a keen ear for dialogue, an in-depth knowledge of the time periods, a talent for pacing, and a great talent for creating three dimensional characters. Oh yeah, did I mention that she also has the gift of a great story teller? All I know, is that it's been my pleasure to turn people onto this series for almost 20 years.

I powered through all 8 books in less than a year, after work and (sometimes) late into the night. For once, I finished a series of novels without the feeling of sadness when complete. I miss Claire tho. I feel like Claire and Jamie became a member of my life with Diana's portrayal of the them.
I would say that was brought to reality a few times when timing of events (such as the length of time to travel from destination to destination wasn't always consistent in some books).
Thank you Diana for the friend I found.

I am a huge fan of these books. I first read Outlander when it was released in the mass paperback editions for the first four books. Then I got them all in trade paperback and reread them from book one till book eight. You would think I was satisfied, but no, I got all the ebooks and audio books. Now I can lie back, close my eyes and listen to the books. The professional narration is top notch. I have been through them all once. With the third season of Outlander coming out on Starz, I might need to "refresh" my memory. These books never get old.

Claire and Jamie are the most fascinating couple even in print. Sorry, Scarlett and Rhett. I look forward to watching season three on Starz next week. If it's like the first two seasons, I wil be happy. Voyager is my favorite book because it covers the time between her return to the 20th century and her return to the 18th century to reunite with Jamie. Like I said, I really love these books, no matter the format.

We are giving this one star on these great books only because the publisher sold them as a series of books, but delivered them to the Kindle as one long book. It's impossible to easily find your place or jump to a different book in the series because the file is so large. Hey publisher: no bueno.

This is an amazing series. Diana Gabaldon is such an amazing writer - there's no way you can read this series and not feel as if you are actually there - feeling & experiencing everything. I purchased all the books and read them on my Kindle but wished I had a hardcopy as I often wanted to go back and look up something that happened earlier (in the book as well as the series) and it was simply not convenient. So, wanting to re-read the series before the next book comes out, I'm excited to be getting the real books! I ordered this set because I'm nostalgic and want the original covers (not the ones with the "STARS" series covers). I could have spent $55 less purchasing them individually, but wanted the original cover set. Looking forward to getting my tactile books! :-)

Clean the house, stock your cabinets and ask for time off work. You just want to sit and read from book one to the end and now I am waiting impatiently for the next one! The sex scenes get less graphic as each book moves along if that offends you, just keep reading it is worth it. If you like the Starz series you will absolutely love the books. Worth the time. I carried one with me everywhere I went until I had read the last page. There are little novellas in between to read too. Starting to collect them now. Didn't know that until today!

Diana Gabaldon - I salute you!

I am reading your series now, for the third time.

I wanted to read the Outlander books, one more time, before the next (ninth) book in the series is published, and before the next (third) Outlander TV season airs.

Each time I've read the Outlander series of books, I absorb more detail from the flawless research and story-telling.

Thank you Diana Gabaldon, for your wonderful books - the characters, the stories, and for making it a pleasure to learn more about our world history, which is fascinating - so much more than I've ever learned in our public schools and universities.

I've learned about Scotland, England, France, America, colonial islands, war, trade and commerce, religions, slavery, medicine, disease, travel - the list is endless.

I would encourage all, to read the Outlander series for sheer pleasure, education and insight. We have it easy today, when compared to our past.
I can say no more.

This series is so enjoyable! I LOVE THE BOOKS! These are huge books that are really hard to put down. Gabaldon is really smart and clever and imaginative and the books are a rare treat.

And the audible version is available for each book at around $3.99 (edit, now they are $7.99) as opposed to the $15 monthly credit price. But But there is a but... you must purchase each book individually to be able to take advantage of the discount. The representative was kind enough to allow me to exchange the series for the individuals AND they are the same price to buy, so if you think you might want to distract a sick person or someone who can't read for themselves you might need to know this.

This story has it all, romance, history, time travel, mystery, humor, vivid descriptions that wrap around you and pull you into the action. Enough material that you can read the series many, many times and you will always find something new. The TV show is just a tiny part of the saga of the books.

Even though I have read many amazing books I have never come across one that I would choose to read a second time.....I was hooked from the beginning with Outlander and will absolutely keep this entire series for reading a second time in the future. Maybe a third!! Diana Gabaldon has a way of writing that fascinated me.

The books are awesome. Can't stop reading. However, DO NOT BUY THIS BUNDLE FOR A KINDLE PAPERWHITE. You have no way of telling which book you are on. I am 76% through the bundle (according to my Kindle) and started worrying I was getting near the end of the series (I don't want it to ever end!) To figure out that I am currently on A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES I had to go to wikipedia and read plot summaries.

Whew. I've still got AN ECHO IN THE BONE (which is in this bundle) and WRITTEN IN MY OWN HEART’S BLOOD (not in this bundle) left to read, plus all the shorter books. Then I have to wait for the 9th in the series. Yes, I'm now an Outlander addict. I started watching the TV series May 2015 and had never read any of these books before.

Absolutely one of the best series of books among the historical romance genre I've ever read. When I decided to begin reading romance novels again after a 20 year break during which time I mostly read "self-improvement" or autobiographies and biographies, I googled the top 100 romance novels and guess what came up? Yes, indeed the book "Outlander" was the first on the list. So, I bought and read and then read the other books. When I completed the series, I began again.

To this day, I can say that Jamie Fraser is at the top of my list for heroes in this genre. He's a faithful man, he's brave, he's a man's man who has faced unbelievable odds to keep his family together - always putting them first. This set of books will take the reader through the time that Clare traveled through the "Stones" from her century to the 18th century in Scotland. You will go through the Culloden War with Jamie and his compatriots which forever changed the lives of the Scottish people. Then, eventually Jamie and Clare will wind up in American where many Scottish folks traveled in order to begin a new life. In this brave New World Jamie and Clare forge a life together, eventually building up their own family including adopted children, friends from Scotland and whomever else is in their sphere. Clare is of course, a traveler from the 20th century and has a knowledge of medicine which gives her a great advantage over doctors during the period she is now living in. In fact, although she is initially a nurse by profession, she ultimately serves as a physician.

The seemingly insurmountable odds Jamie and Clare go through in each book of this series will keep the reader intrigued and always wanting more. I don't believe you will be disappointed in this set.

I bought Outlander in the Powell's store in th Port land airport, I was going to be gone 2 weeks; it was long.
I did finish it on the trip and begged a ride to the closest Barnes and Noble (Hey it was 20 years ago) to get the next one in the series. I am still waiting for book 9.

I have been reading these books since Outlander came out, I immediately fell for Jamie Fraser, unfortunately it took me awhile to warm up to Claire, maybe because she's English and I'm Scottish. However, as the books went a long I began to like her a little more each time. I love the way Diana Gabaldon can wrap so many different adventures and characters into one book but ensures that everyone can keep up and not get confused, that is surely talent. I will wait patiently for the 8th book and perhaps start the series all over again. PS Love Lord John series which I have also read--he was one of my favourite characters in the Outlander series.

This series appeals to me for several reasons. I love that there is time travel, I love that she is a physician and I love that the author has done her homework on the historical facts. I started this series with the notion that I would give it a shot. By the second chapter of the first book, I was hooked! I think the author does a fantastic job with the history, especially notable figures, languages, and trends. However, I think she does an even better job with the human instincts and emotions that result from the situations at hand. I highly recommend this series.

Although there is violence and explicit sexual content, that is not the magic of this series. The heroism, the reality (time travel? reality? really?), the history, the romance, the descriptions of the moors, the rhododendron choked mountains of north carolina, the mangrove roots, the anguish of losing a child...the thinking...the healing....that universe pulling me in....amazing. i've never been a groupie (not elvis, not the beatles)...but i bought a $100 ticket, drove 6 hours and paid for a hotel room to hear Diana Gabaldon speak in Washington and to meet her (and have her sign my book).....she is an amazing woman.

This book series was smartly written and the best I've ever read. The historical accuracy paired with the depth of the story line and characters made these stories seem real at times. I took two years to read mostly slowing it down so I could savor each chapter not wanting it to end. In the end I felt as if I knew these characters like family and the entire story was as familiar as home. I could not recommend it enough!

I have to be honest. Sense I was a child, I have found reading without falling to sleep to be a very hard task to accomplish. Finally, after 42 years, I can say I finally found a series of books that not only keeps me awake, but also keeps me on the edge of my seat with excitement and anticipation for what I shall find on the next page or from the next book! Thank you, Dianne, for bringing a love of books into my life now! It is true, you are never too old to start new things, and now, thanks to your books, reading is now my daily routine that brings me much joy and happiness!

I have now read the series of 8 books twice and it was better than the first time. Although its painful for us readers to wait for book 9, "Go Tell the Bees Than I am Gone" it is worth the wait. I just hope 2018 is the year its finished.

I began this series more than 20 years ago in high school. The story is so intense that I would read each book within two days. Now that it is popular again I would love to reread them (borrowed from the school library) but I wish that the series did not cost $70 for kindle.

After reading Outlander, I had a new favorite author! After reading all of her books, novellas, Lord John Grey, and Companion, I have to admit that Diana Gabaldon is by far my lifetime favorite author and she is a wonderful person. No, I have never personally met her but have watched numerous interviews with her and read her blog and texts assume seems like a great woman who loves to tell a great story. What more do we want? She surpassed everything I ever thought about storytelling! Thank you, Diana! Here's to beginning another re-read...

There are so many positives about this series! Some of the narrative takes getting used to, as does the pacing. But, I assure you that it was well worth the effort to continue! Historical depictions, characters and real exploits. From their first meeting, Claire & Jamie, they are fated to be together. I won't post any spoilers! And I cannot wait for their story to continue!! Thank you Diana Gabaldon, for all your hard work, dedication and accuracy!

I am on my 7th in the series of Outlander novels. Once again, I am amazed with Gabaldon's storytelling. Once I complete the 8 book series I'm going to read Gabaldon's The Outlandish Companion. This book is non-fiction, but I expect to see the same marvelous writing that I have enjoyed in all her novels.

Diana Gabaldon is a genius with characterization and conflict! I've read the entire series at least four times and find something new to wow me each time. The main characters Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser are faced with obstacles that seem insurmountable, the love they learn to share comes from those things. The series follows the couple and their family from their late 20's to early 60's. Now, the series is being brought to life as a television series on Starz. Kudos to Diana Gabaldon.

I received my first book for Christmas 2013 & had read all 8 PLUS the Lord John books by the 1st of April. I couldn't stop reading. Thrilled when the series started, but wish it was 2-3 hrs at a time so we can see the next books sooner. Please try to hurry up the series, I can't wait for next one to be here.

I first saw the series on STARZ and wanted more so I read the books. I couldn't put it down. I was really amazed at the details that Diana wrote on everything. I have to do research in my line of work, so I can appreciate the extent of time and work she spend on her research. I look forward to the next book.

I had no family or friends and no place to go. When I discovered the Outlander series, Diana Gabaldon provided me with all I did not have plus adventure, love, villans, heros, and fantasy beyond my imagination! I am grateful for this series and book 9 to come. However, I am older than dirt and hope I hang around long enough to read all she adds to the long list of Outlander books. Thanks also to the cast, directors, writers, and crew of the Starz series. Great books!!

I had the first seven novels altogether in one. Took me forever to read and I am a fast reader, but I was totally addicted. I loved the development of the characters, Jamie and Claire. The addition of Ian, Roger and Bree and eventually their children added so much more to the story. I probably loved the time they were in North Carolina the best...this would have been in the book The Fiery Cross. Gabaldon know how to tell a story and her way of describing things in the book was unique and captivating. The last book, An Echo in the bone, I thought was a little disjointed. It dragged on in some areas and went to fast in others. The focus was divided, adding new characters into the fold. I really could care less about William but John Grey had been developed all along. However it really took a lot to keep my interest except that everything happening seems to center around John while Jamie kind of faded into a support role. Claire was relegated to her doctoring, Fergus was barely included in the story, Marsali even more so. There was a huge cliff hanger at the end making me wonder what happened to Bree, Jem, Roger and William McKenzie. What happened to Ian and Rachel? Did Fergus ever find out his true parentage? How did Jamie react to find out Claire married John and what happened there? Did Jamie and Claire ever make it back to North Carolina? How did the books they left for their grandchildren end up in Roger's hands and for that matter, did Bree ever find out about them? Instead the story drug on and on about the condition of the country around the war. Interesting but I kept wanting to get through that part and back to my unanswered questions. I just bought book 8...I hope everything is wrapped up there as there is no word of a book 9 coming out. All on all I loved these books and am interested in what else the author may come up with.

Diana Gabaldon had me hooked! with the first Outlander novel ! My sister loaned me the first 2 to read on a cross country drive , with my good friend,
to Colorado. I finished both on that long road trip, and couldn't wait for the next book! I've read all of the 8 books plus her novellas.
I always felt that I was reconnecting with long lost friends!, especially Jamie and Claire!
Unlike this wonderful author, I feel that one should read this series in order. You get to know the characters and their experiences without
wondering "who is this?"
As a side note - Sarah Donati's books make reference to the Fraziers - They're worth the read! I enjoyed her books!
If you're watching the series on STARZ, read before you watch

I finally finished reading (uuuuf!) the last book of the "Outlander" series...I did it only to be able to write this review: watching the movie isn't the same thing as reading the books. So, now I can tell from all my heart that if I had been Diana Gabaldon, I would have stopped writing after the first or, oookaaaay, the second book: the other six-seven-eight (if we count the John Grey stuff!) books are simply a joke, a silly repetition of same expressions, same gesture, same predictable events, sometimes mistaking the order, the years, the ages...Aaaanyway, what made me laugh questionably was first Claire: what woman at menopause, aged over 50 (Diana lies about women age even when she is fictional) chooses to live 200 years back, to sleep in cold, to go to war knowingly (Claire knew the history, right?), instead of being a doctor in Boston of the 20th century? My guess would be: no woman in her right mind, if that would be a possibility. There is also the "perfect character": all are "perfection", Claire, Jamie, Frank, Janet, Bree, Roger, Sir Grey, William, all are flawless physically and morally. What a heaven is there possible in real life to meet only perfect people? Come on!! The only credible characters are the villain ones, Jonathan Randall, Stephen Bonnet...Well, Bree and Claire are two women coming out of comics. Claire, a mother who leaves her only child orphan simply to get a good sex. Bree playing drama queen with Roger, Bonnet, etc. Apparently, in aaaall these books, the men have no cojones, they shiver in front of their women ( James apologies every second page and Roger is just a dull doll).
I have to give it to the author: she is diligent when it comes to writing: productive. But that does not mean quality. Now I get why only teenager girls cried themselves to sleep over Outlander: stories for kids.
I cursed, I yawned, I almost jumped over chapters ( one chapter dedicated to a surgery, or a sex scene, or a crying alone, or God knows what else unimportant??), but stubborn as a Scot(he-he, I’ve got some qualities meself !!)I have finished. The end.
Boring. No credibility. I mean, come on, women! Age 53, or almost 60, not washed for a week , sleeping in the forest, in the same dirty clothes, no teeth washed and a man is kissing your very intimate places “soothingly” and he does not feel that you stink? Love, well, but the hygiene (especially when Claire comes from the 20th century and she is a frigging doctor!)...Menopause is different in the 18th century? Claire and Bree are kind of slutty...especially Claire (she f...d Louis of France and Lord Grey the gay for Christ sake!).
Well...I am tired. I stand my ground: the first book, interesting somehow...The rest are bellow the sea level. While reading them, I was comparing Outlander to “Harry Potter”: well that is a story I have read four times and I hope that it will be introduced mandatory for the school curriculum in every country, in every language. J. K. Rowling created a perfect metaphor of life as we know it, of society, of people (children and adults) and their education. “Outlander” is simply a kitsch.

I cannot believe I wasted 10 months listening to this bad writing to and from work. Outlander was amazing, I just wish I would have stopped after that. I didn't pick out these books to listen to every detail of her surgeries. I didn't listen for her to explain every little detail, I wonder how many times she wrote "like" or "as if". There were so many details without having any real information that I was so bored. I just finished the last book with the worst ending ever and now if I want to figure out some of the parts I have to read more of her books, we'll forget it, I'll go to a better written novel and not waste anymore of my time and money on this crap. And as for watching the series I don't know if I'm going to now. How they are going to fill a season with only small details and surgeries. If you're going to read it, I would stop after Voyager, the rest is just fluff.
