If you are looking for a well written paranormal romance series, this is a fun place to start. All of Feehan's books can be read out of order, but this is one series that is more satisfying if you read them in order. There is an overall story that deepens as the series progresses. If you like JR Ward, Lynsay Sands, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jacqueline Frank, Larissa Ione, Lara Adrian, Maggie Shayne or Lynn Viehl you will like this author.
This is one of my favorite books out of this series! I read this in paperback the first time. Now I own it on my Kindle and Kindle Apps.

This series and author is quickly becoming one of my favorites. wasn't sure at first how it would be however Christine Feehan grabbed my attention and has me hooked. I'm currently on book 4 and looking forward to the entire series. Story is sexy without being over the top, has some suspense to keep the reader interested, and a few twist and turns to keep you guessing.

Really not into the whole vampire, werewolf, zombie thing, but I thought what the heck, give it a try maybe you might be missing something. Nope, if this book is any indication of the current genre, not missing a thing.Unappealing hero( at least to me), wimpy, weeping heroine, mish-mash plotline, unappealing on so many levels. Will not be ordering any more of her books, sorry.

This was the first Christine Feehan book that I ever read and it had me hooked to the story as well as the series. Mikhail is a man after my own heart. After walking for centuries living in darkness waiting to see aspark of color or to feel any feeling, he has finally found his long waiting lifemate. When he finds Raven, he doesn't want to let her go. Not only is she beautiful as well as caring but after years of dealing with the her pshyic abilities in which she feels everyone's pain she need someone to care for her. Mikhail a supernatural immortal is the prince of his people yet he will willing to do anything to destorying humans, vampires and other of his race as well to protect his lifemate.
This was fantasic--finally a hero who is devoted totally the love of his life. Feeham's passionate couple exploded with sensuality in almost every page. Ordinary things like breathing as well as drinking wine because an act of sensuaility between the two. The mixture of vampire like elements within the Carpathians was more than alluring.
I loved this book--it is the first in a group of diverse books about these fantasic immortals who are looking for their lifemate.
A must read!

While I generally love a good vampire story, this book just didn't do it for me. The characters were too perfect (noble, ruthless, handsome vampire/ sweet, beautiful, sweet, telepathic, sweet heroine). The "little one" thing just drove me crazy. Characters did stupid stuff--logic did not seem to apply. Struggled to finish book.

This book is well written and the intimations of a hidden society captivating. My only reservation to a higher rating is the continuous distraction of graphic erotic nature to the story... simply a personal preference...lol

Excellent book which really throws you into a world that is unique as well as intriguing.

A race of individuals known as the Carpathians on the brink of extinction, who find hope in one individual. Is a premise that works for feehan and one which will leave you unable to stop reading.

The authors cut adds some details to the story that add depth to the characters that are so loved. The added material is seamless and truly adds to the reading experience.

I do so enjoy reading Christine Feehan's Dark series of books. They are awesome. Although the first one I ever read was the 19th book she wrote I loved it. After looking for her other books I found she had written a series of books and so started reading from the beginning of the series. Makes quite a difference in the understanding of what is going on and gives you more background for each successive book on the characters within. Love all the books she has written.

This is the very first of Christine Feehan's novels. It is part of the Dark series. I have read most of them throughout the years. I am now reading them in order which makes more sense. I highly recommend this book and think you will want to read more in the series.

I was so happy to finally read the first Carpathian story, now that this is once again available in Hardcover. I hope Feehan puts out more of her books that aren't available any longer this way.

As for the story, it was great to see the first story, knowing how far this goes, you can see the seeds of what is to come. It was wonderfully written and thought out, and I love the humor of the modern girl with the old world man since she won't act like he wants her to. A good read!

I guess since this was the first book introducing the Carpathian race, it, in my opinion is the best. I have read it several times and enjoy it each time. There are a ton of these books now, but this is still the best. My BIGGEST problem with Feehan's writings is that she tends to repeat phrases again and again. Look for "black velvet" so many times you will get seriously sick of it!

Dark Prince is a phenominal read. Christine Feehan creates very believable characters, characters that feel so very real. Her Dark series is awesome. I own 16 of the series and look forward to getting the rest. This authours cut gives so much more depth to the story and is like the directors cut or extended versions of movies that give a fuller body to the story line. I hope she does the same with the rest of the series. Would recommend to anyone who loves "vampire" stories for a unique take on the genre.

I loved it. Both Raven and Mikhail took you through all the emotions of a new found love. There was fear of what was happening to her, wonder of what was real or not. Raven had been alone all her young life and knew there was no one she could trust except herself! Then Mikhail comes along to claim her as his and their lives are changed forever. They share a love that we only dream about and perils we could never survive.

This was the most tedious, horribly written book I’ve had the displeasure to read. It was recommended to me by a friend who knows I enjoy paranormal romance but the heroine was so annoying, I felt nothing for her. The story was weak but I finished it because I promised my friend, but believe me I will not continue the series.

I found my first book about the Carpathians on Kindle, but the very first book in the series WASN'T on Kindle. I wanted to read "Dark Prince (The Carpathians (Dark) Series, Book 1)" before I read the others. You should read this series in order. I was able to find Book 1 on the store and it was delivered in just a few days in perfect shape. I loved it!! The author has a completely different idea of where vampires come from. The longer a Carpathian male lives without finding his mate threatens his soul. If he doesn't find her, he might give in to the dark and truly become a vampire. His mate is the light to his dark and balances his soul. There is only one true mate for a Carpathian. Since they can live hundreds or even thousands of years, a Carpathian may become desparate, but for reasons they haven't solved yet, fewer and fewer females are being born. This series is well worth reading. But PLEASE put Book 1 on Kindle.

This mass market paperback included two stories, "Dark Prince" and a shorter story "Dark Descent." "Dark Prince" was the first in her series. It had a weak and boring plot. There were too many redundant and boring conversations. I disliked the heroine, Raven. She said "I'm very intelligent" yet she repeatedly did stupid things. For example, she had no ability to attack or defend herself, yet she alone followed four assassins and got stabbed several times, almost dying. Another time, a bad vampire is after her, three good guys tell her to run and leave but she says, no I can help, she stayed and the bad vampire kidnapped her. The author claimed Raven was compassionate yet when her mate was seriously injured, she told him she wanted to break up with him. As evidence of her compassion, she told her mate not to hurt the bad guys who were trying to kill them. I don't care for conflicts based on that kind of compassion. The second story, "Dark Descent" surprised me. It was as if the author was saying "See how my writing has improved?" It was a story similar to "Dark Prince," a psychic human woman telepathically communicates with a Carpathian. He immediately knows she is his lifemate. They meet and become mates. She was likeable and had fighting abilities. No redundant boring conversations. It was much better written. However, I will probably not be reading any more of this author.

Read this a couple months ago, but forgot to review. I read this after Book 2. I loved it!!!!! Raven, the heroine, was a little wimpy, but the whole feel of the book was great. It made me want to hop on a plane over to Europe to see where everything "took place." lol. Feehan's writing just makes you feel like you are there.

Christine Feehan has a tremendous knack for the continuum throughout her Dark Series. I have the entire collection but I could not get the "Dark Prince" from which the whole series begins until just lately. So what's a girl supposed to do, I ask you? Why, just start all over again from the beginning, I say! Truthfully, after reading the "Dark Prince", I just had to go through the rest of the series, reading the books in order, and I love being able to remember the various characters. Christine is awesome in keeping true to her characters and I have developed a relationship with all the Carpathian personalities.

When I first read this book, it was an incredibly difficult book to put down... It starts out with the thought that things just couldn't work between these two people who so obviously need each other. I was mildly irritated by the woman in the book... Raven has a problem with giving up on anything good for little reasons. It bugs me a bit... I suppose it just adds another obstacle to overcome, but yikes, woman... Grow up. The reason I say that this book is so much more than a romance is because it has so much more to offer! There's adventure, blood & gore, drama, & a few parts that make your heart squeeze in your chest. The book is graphic in a sexual way, but trust me, it's not a bad thing. The way Feehan describes their lovemaking is incredible. It's beautiful & intense & very sensual. Raven gets into way too much trouble for her own good, but it's all perfectly weaved into a believable (for the book) story. The whole Carpathian series is an incredible work. I can say, without a doubt, this is my absolute favorite paranormal romance series. That does say something since this is my favorite genre of book & I read a lot. The characters are so full of emotion & well rounded. They will make you want to laugh, cry, smile, scream, & some parts of the books will have you chewing your nails, & since it is a romance, it will certainly make you feel a little naughty. All in all, 5 stars is a sure thing for this & many of the other Carpathian novels.

Sex but how many times must one hear how large, how hard, how burning,it's almost a mantra already.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the balance of good verses evil and a little love between a smart, beautiful woman and a tall, dark and hot hunk of a Carpathian. Christine Feehan has written a series portraying life lessons, of love and anguish in the hearts of her characters.

This is the first in C. Feehan's Carpathian series and one of my favorites. It is
where we are introduced to the Prince of the Carpathian people: Mikhail Dubrinsky.
I find him to be a very sympathetic and extremely "steamy" hero. This book is
important for background information on the series.

While many may like vampire stories, they don't interest me and are completely out of my comfort zone. I don't watch horror or vampire movies, nor do I read vampire books. I almost stopped reading a book by Monica Jackson a couple of years ago because I thought the story was heading in that direction. I continued reading, finished it and was glad because I enjoyed the book. After reading so many varied opinions about this series I decided since the characters involved were supposedly not vampires but vampire slaying "Carpathians" (and my curiosity got the better of me) I decided to read the first two books of the series (book two only if I could get through book one). Dark Prince, centered around Mikhail Dubrinsky Prince of the Carpathians, is the first in the series, and sets the stage for what is to follow. I won't summarize the book, to do so would be redundant.

I found the whole different species and type of existence created by the author different, entertaining, and was quite frankly admired her imagination. The males are alpha, which some may find offensive or insulting. The author went through great effort to explain that the Carpathians are a different "species" - not human; Carpathians are primal, they even shape-shift and run as and with wild animals (including wolves) - remember, humans are supposed to be civilized; their principal instinct, main objective, and most actions (it appears) are based on their need to protect their lifemates and children on a primal or animalistic level - keep in mind, humans are "more evolved." Their "alpha" mentality and behavior, while off-putting to some, adds to their wild-animalistic, whole-other-species nature. It may be difficult for some to view Carpathians as another species and seek humanize them; however, doing so detracts from the creativity involved in creating a whole other species, culture, and way of existence.

I agree, this series isn't for everyone. While I still do not like vampires (just not my thing) and may not read the entire series, I enjoyed Dark Prince, Dark Desire, and Dark Descent (though I "ran" through the vampire scenes in Dark Descent - definitely not my thing). I *may* venture to read some of the other stories in this series and hope the elements that make this series different, unique, and what-it-is remain.

I absolutely LOVED This entire series, but this first book does a phenomenal job of setting it up. I don't want to give anything away so all I will do is say it is fun, intriguing and an outstanding new twist to the 'vampire' tale. I hate to use that word because it sets preconceived ideas. This is a unique storyline that I promise you will enjoy.
