Well written, well researched, compelling book. The book made me care about both the families living today and their lost relatives. I never before thought of what families went through who lost someone that was MIA. The book touched my heart.

Dramatic and detailed account of tracing missing American Airmen of WWII in the south Pacific. Looks at the development pf forensic pathology to assist in the identification of the remains and the impact of closure for the surviving family members.

This book brings to life the search for the airmen who were missing in action. The dedicated search that took years and countless hours of research highlights what can be achieved. It is an eye opening account of how strong the drive can be to bring closure to the families for the airmen who went to war and never returned.

I read many books about WW II inside stories, they are usually good reads, because human interest and true stories are better than fiction. Vanished was intricately, researched by Mr. Hylton, he has a knack for turning over stones or coral as it may be. Tenacity is one of the most valuable lessons one can learn from this book, I would think young readers would realize the value. I couldn't put it down.

The author did well to bring this story to light. However his narrative rambled and jumped and I found myself as lost in the jungle of his narrative as the planes. I still recommend it for the background information and story of the protagonist.

I had no idea of the dedication by some individual americans to the search for Mia's.after reading this book
The full extent of the ongoing search for our missing and all that goes with it is abundantly made.all the sciences
Are used to track down and reveal the forgotten resting places of the dead.i found this dedication by all involved
Very moving and strongly recommend this book.

It ties personal attention to anyone with MIA's in family history. It shows a man's quest to help find missing many years later and to thank them for their service. The B24 is an airplane that did not get as much attention as others during WWII and this book brings to light their crews and service. I know the airplane from an uncle that is a MIA in European theater.

Interesting book however I think there is too much "other" surrounding stories pertaining to the men's lives. I personally would like more of a focus on the recovery and discovery process of the missing airmen and planes. Still, this is my personal preference and I think the book is interesting.

This was a wonderful book....filled with so much little known history of the war in the area of the Pacific known as Palau...I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading about World War ll and especially the Pacific theater.

It was very interesting and informative. I would recommend the book and it was very well written. It is wonderful that someone would do this research and hopefully it brought closure to the families. Our military men and women are the greatest for all they do for us and I hope that everyone takes the time to thank them.

Love these non-fiction WWII books. Gave it 4 stars (not 5) b/c I got a little confused about the characters (who was who) in the first half of the book. Subject matter and writing style were great. If you like stories about the war in the Pacific, you will enjoy this book a lot.

Anyone interested in WWII history would enjoy this book. The search to find wreckage and the research of the victims of lost crews was very interesting.. It was nice to see that some of the families finally got closure since that nagging question of what happened extends for generations. Missing in action is an open-end question for the relatives.

This is a remarkable story on many levels. Author Hylton has given us a story which is part documentary, part war story, and part ghost tale. Detail is everywhere, from grieving family members to the missing flight crews and then to the archaeologists themselves. Throughout all, Hylton shows all of the people involved as extremely human-- each with fears, faults, and hopes. Although "Vanished" is totally non-fiction it reads like a classic mystery novel, with suspense and surprises throughout. This is 265 pages of wonderful storytelling. Much of it is compelling, and part of it is heartbreaking. "Vanished" should also be used as motivation to continue these types of searches for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Those with interest in WWII or archaeology should find "Vanished" as both intriguing and inspirational reading. A very good read.

Filled with human interest, fascinating
history. Heightened my respect, no, my
reverence, for those who sacrificed so much
to provide the freedoms enjoyed by so many
for the past sixty years! It was difficult to put
this book down. A great read!

The story is so well written the reader immediately becomes one with the discovery teams. You are drawn into the relationship with the families involved and connected to a sense of truth with the explorers. Really great references.

The facts of finding servicemen who have not returned home is told in a way that you are living the experience, not reading it. It draws you in and keeps moving the reader forward until the end. Even though all those who are missing may never be found, this book explains how those involved keep looking.
