This book, although written in the early 20th century contains some of the most important health information ever recorded. Dr. Price was a pioneer in determining the relationship between nutrition and degenerative diseases. It is my opinion that all healthcare practicioners (traditional and alternative) should be required to read this text before graduation. I believe that it is that important to understand the implications of living in an industrialized nation...and of course what can be done about it.

Timeless classic, goes to find people at a true state of health as a measuring stick to guide us to health. The so called "primitives" had up to 100% immunity to tooth decay and disease and he demonstrates things very very scientifically. If anything you will read half the book and say to yourself okay okay I get it already but that is just a testiment to Dr. Weston Prices professional research techniques. You will be amazed by the pictures, dialogue and statistics. With this book you and your children can attain health the way God meant it to be.

Enjoy!

Here is the testimony of the only nutrition paradigm I know of that is based on a full spectrum of really healthy peoples! Modern medicine is truly incapable of presenting anything comparable to what is documented in this book! The reason for that failure is that modern medicine has virtually no real health reference! It is a paradigm that is based on disease! (What about health?) Quite contrary to this, Dr. Weston A. Price documented all of his search for the many living examples of radiant health that are recorded in this wonderful volume! Dr. Douglass Campbell essentially says that any practitioner who is not familiar with this work does not know what health is!

I can not recommend any book on nutrition any higher than this one!
The forwards alone are worth the price!

Fantastic read, really interesting stuff especially in light of what we now know about epigenetics.
Hard to put down.
Only cons is that it was written a long time ago and the language is fairly formal, didn't bother me but it was a looong read - combined with being so interesting meant I was up reading late into the night - a lot :)

Striking evidence right here that the rubbish that gets marketed to us today as "food" is the cause of just about all modern illnesses.
Early on the reader will learn how cancer rates climbed 90% from 1907 to 1930. Dr Price was the forefront researcher into modern dentistry. Not much has changed since he perfected dental radiography and filling equipment and techniques.
The first half of this book details Dr Price's world search for people living on unadulterated foods and examining their dental and general health. His copious amounts of raw data are included in the text.
From there he reports on his experiences in repairing the health of patients by removing manufactured foodstuffs from their diets and replacing these with the nutrient rich morsels that were enjoyed by our ancestors. The change in the health of the patients was remarkable in all cases and included cessation of dental caries progress, improvement in brain function and general health.
This book will be taking pride of place in my library amongst the half dozen books that I shall never discard.

Far beyond dentistry, it's a faultless research pointing the incontestable relationship between diet and health.
Possibly the earliest fairly documented root for "alternative" medicines based on proper nutrition, like orthomolecular.

Dentist travels to 5 continents visiting over 100 communities between 1920 and 1930, comparing health among people with ancestors eating habits and the same people adopting the modern eating habits, and found that human degeneration with the use of junk food and toxic food, based in sugar and wheat

Dr. Price was a retired dentist who toured the world for a few years to find out why some native people escaped tooth and bone problems, including crooked teeth. His conclusion was that it had to do with eating natural nutrient rich food (not the processed food of the modern diet). Whether this is the case or not may be disputable. What is not disputable is the fact that teeth and bone problems developed within a generation of modern food becoming available to the natives, which can be readily seen in the numerous pictures taken by Price. My own conclusion is that eating a diet of only natural nutrient rich food, as fresh as possible, is an excellent idea.

One unfortunate outcome of Dr. Price's book is that some people have interpreted it to justify a diet high in meat, milk and other animal products. I don't believe this is the point of Dr. Price's book.

Amazing how accurate he is, even though he wrote the book so long ago. I have really enjoyed reading it and love the massive amount of investigation he did. I have started eating more seafood, soaking grains, adding organ meat and broth to my diet, all as a result of this book. Here is the investigation and the proof. The photos don't lie.

A brief description of my background: I have been researching health & fitness since I was 16 years old, when my brother in law informed me that I was “getting fat”, I am now 44.

I have been reading and researching paleo/primal/ancestral diets for the last 3 years and the name Weston A. Price is constantly mentioned. So I finally purchased the book to read for myself. I found the information interesting and I am amazed by the hands on research conducted by Weston A. Price. However, this is a long and rather boring book. It truly reads like a text book written by a dentist. I often found myself dozing off after reading several pages.

An important body of work that should never be overlooked by modern practitioners.
Start with this book then go the westonaprice.org site after it and become educated about real health.
Deserves 5 stars but bit heavy reading due to the language used in the 1930's.

Anyone looking for a solid foundation upon which to build up their nutritional knowledge has no need to look any further. This book provides simple but effective arguments that are based in many repeatable studies concerning the relationship between overall health and nutrition.

This book should be translated into all languages and become a mandatory reading in the phys. ed. and science classes of all high schools and universities around the world. It never will be, but if it were, this poisoned, malnourished and disease-plagued world would, more than likely, become a MUCH happier and healthier place. The path to healing is not more medications, more surgeries and more medical bills but a good understanding of the true causes of disease and how to remove and avoid them. Few individuals made such a remarkable contribution in this direction as Dr. Weston Price did.

Weston, you are a genius. Read this book, and you'll cut through the modern BS and philosophy on "nutrition," and go old school. Add probiotics to your diet, because all the pesticides and herbicides are destroying your gut bacteria, and follow his advice on cod liver oil, butter oil, and occasional organ meat (thank you Ancestral Supplements!!!!!). Eat organic. Say goodbye to flu shots. Lose weight. Be healthy. Become strong. Feel better. This is me; it can be you.

It makes you look at people differently, the shape of their jaws and dental arches.
All prospective parents should read this, the nutrition of the parents such an important factor which I hadn't thought about before.
A very readable book.
This book sheds a whole new light on the degeneration of so called modern society.

Great book - love all of the pictures Dr. Price used for his studies! They really make his research come alive. It is rather dry (as a research text could be expected to be), but understandable to the average person.

This is the most important book for all Americans to read regarding nutrition and our present state of dis-ease. I recommend to all. This book changed my life and my health continues to improve as I properly prepare my foods and eat butter, eggs, organ meats, soaked grains, etc. It was hard to realize almost everything I learned in the public school system about diet and nutrition was wrong. I'm so blessed to have found this information, and come away from the present day conventional beliefs about diet.

This book clearly shows how important diet is to our health and wellbeing. This is a very important work. The food industry today is not adhering to mindful practices and the populations are paying dearly for this. Disease is rampant throughout the world and here in America. Educate yourselves people and make a stand to have properly grown, farmed and processed food. Learn about health and learn how to grow and prepare your own food.
