I would recommend this book to any one interested in old wars. This was most interesting and my husband was well versed about the Cremean war, which was helpful in helping me understand the location and other facts.

This was a well done historical novel. I liked that it wasn't the usual theme of well to do aristocratic family but instead a typical English merchant's family with realistic family life struggles. The Crimean war descriptions were well done and how it effected these two sisters was an excellent story line. I was pulled in and committed to finding out how things were going to turn out. The interweaving of Florence Nightingale was good also.
I wouldn't call it uplifting .At times it was very sad in fact. I like this author and it's the first book I've read by her.I definitely read another.
