I choose to ignore the other reviews, but some were right on. I really like the beginning of the book but it really went down hill half way thru. I have really enjoy her other books but for some reason there was something definitely off with the characters and/or the plot. I will probably continue to buy more books in this series.

I like the other Cyborg Seductions books, although they are a little repetitive (particularly the sex scenes- I can easily predict what action happens next). I've read them out of order but it hasn't mattered. Burning Up Flint is basically unreadable. I'm too disturbed that a female character has just been abducted, stripped, restrained and raped, and her inner monologue is as calm and unaffected as a glassy lake. I've gotten as far as her being forced to strip and be medically examined in front of twenty plus other males before being 'branded' and I seriously cannot read any more. She has absolutely no emotion. She's more of a cyborg than he is. Laurann Dohner is lucky I didn't download this first; I wouldn't have bought any more.
Better books in the series are Taunting Krell and Touching Ice. Skip Flint's story.

I Love Laurann Dohner and her books are incredible but this one...Mira is a weak woman bought and sold as property and theres no love or romance. Her other books, even in this series are incredible though. I recommend reading the others in this series as well as her New Species. Those are all 5 star books.
Kissing Steel (Cyborg Seduction Book 2) :: Obsidian (New Species Book 8) :: Lorn (VLG Book 3) :: Haunting Blackie (Cyborg Seduction) (Volume 8) :: Moon (New Species) (Volume 10)

honestly, I've no idea what all these other people are complaining about. This book was great! I loved the tensions between the characters. While I can understand why some would think Mira is way too emotional - if you think about it her actions make sense. The little tidbit about the book's plot is off however. Yes, Flint is contracted as a 'donor' - but that's only a minor fraction of the story.
I thought this book was actually better than Ice's. If you want to read more about the cyborgs, I say read Taunting Krell - that's my favourite. Redeeming Zorus comes after, then surprisingly, is Flint's story.
I've not read Coal's or Steel's. I'd like to read about Sky- he sounds awesome!

Admittedly, I haven't read much of this book yet. I purchased it last night and I really wish I hadn't. My biggest problem with this book so far is the heroine who acts more like a 15 year old high school slut than a 32 year old woman! She has just been kidnapped and all she can think about it how sexy this "robot" is. There is no thought of escape or worry about where she's going. She is perfectly content to be on this ship with a stranger who has tied her to his bed. She acts like his dog, doing everything he tells her including to sit in the corner while he controls the ship. She makes the excuse that he's bigger and stronger than she is so she should do what he says, but I want a herione that'll at least TRY to make a stand.
We get no backstory into her life, so I don't know if she just doesn't like her family, life, job or what, that would make her not care where this guy is taking her. He's taking her away from everything she knows and she just doesn't care.
I would also like to have the point of view switch to him since this race of cyborg is new to me and I have no idea what's going on in his head. I want to know more about him (them). It might make it more interesting since the person whose eyes we are seeing everything through is a dimwhit. But so far, I'm on chapter 4 and it hasn't switched over and I'm getting very frustrated.
I'm going to keep reading and give Dohner the benefit of the doubt. I love her New Species series! It's well thought out and complex. So far, this is just weird, but again, I'm going to keep reading a few more chapters and hope that there is more character development. Maybe Marin or whatever her name is, will grow a brain and a spine!

I did not read these in order...the publishers should be happy or I would never have purchased them all...
The later ones in this series are better(not great, but better), the first ones, not so much. The other series was more entertaining for me.
I am a social worker, let me clarify...a rape counselor AND to top it off a childhood/teenage victim. I am here to tell you, this is date rape. No is no is no. In fantasy you say no, get overpowered then, come to your senses and enjoy it. Yes, your BODY may react, but WOW your emotions and spirit are TRAUMATIZED. Sorry, but in my own opinion, I feel this very delicate issue has been handled very badly. The guy is a jerk, refuses to take no for an answer and she...falls in love. ummm no
There is no mutual respect, no trust, no "love". There is unhealthy domination, there is sex, there is abuse of trust. I finished it because it was like a person driving by a car wreck...I had to know the ending, but beyond that...

Unfortunately, this is a DNF for me. The cyborgs act more like women smugglers in outer space. The hero absolutely killed this story. He is one of the biggest loser heroes I have ever read. He kidnaps the heroine, forces (yes, literally gives her no option) her to have sex, then when she tries to escape he captures her and then he sells her (as property) to another man on the ship. This other man wants to beat the heroine.
Now the heroine has to beg, climb all over and scream how she's so sorry she tried to escape and how she'll belong to him. The poor woman has been kidnapped!!! Forced to have sex!!! Forced to be branded!!! And then force-sold to another man who will beat the crap out of her!!! OH yeah, the hero's a real catch. NOT. I wouldn't recommend this book at all.

And that's okay. Not every reader gets every book, and I'm happy to listen to all opinions and engage in debate on books (my favorite topic). But I have to disagree with readers who think Ms. Dohner writes "rape". She doesn't.
In the romance genre, it's called "forced seduction" -- and whether some readers like it or not, it's a HUGE female fantasy (yes, even females who have been victims of abuse) and a sub-genre of romance all on its own. And Ms. Dohner is the current reigning queen of the genre.
I don't care what the popularity of forced seduction fantasies says about women in general; it's not my job to care. All I care about is whether or not I enjoy the books and the actions therein, and I do. And I don't psychoanalyze myself for it. Because it IS fantasy. I don't read romance books to learn an author's moral stances or lessons on politics, religion, etc. I read nonfiction for that. I read romances for the completely unrealistic happy-ever-afters; for a chance to escape. And for a chance to indulge in a taboo fantasy (like forced seduction) in the only safe place I can do so...within the pages of a book.
Rock on, Ms. Dohner. Thanks for leaving the perpetually pregnant, destitute heroines and the billionaire heroes to Harlequin writers, instead giving us books we're not supposed to want but can't wait to read!

Right from the very first page, the very talented author Laurann Dohner sets the stage for a seductive new series that features sexy and dangerous Cyborgs and the human women destined to be their mates. Ms. Dohner entices the reader in this tale with her ability to enhance each scene by using descriptive details that are highly erotic and often a whole lot imaginative and a little out of this world for the reader's full enjoyment. With an added twist here and there the danger, adventure and sinfully sensual delights in this story will keep the reader anxiously turning page after page in this entertaining story. The rich and strongly-defined characters are intriguing and appealing, although the battle of wills clash as well as the conflicts between Flint and Mira grows somewhat tiresome after awhile. The bond between them feels a little off, mostly due to Flint's abrasive, domineering and cold attitude towards Mira although by the end of the story Flint's whole demeanor has changed showing a tender and playful side that is sexy. Mira is a refreshing, feisty and intensely emotional heroine who is passionate and just a little sassy. The story is eccentric enough in its other world setting that the characters interaction can l enjoyed from a fantasy standpoint. Between Flint and Mira, the sexual tension is smoking and the sex is playful and sizzling hot.
As usual Ms. Dohner's wonderful sense of humor shines with this tale. I can't wait for the next book in this new series! - Shannon

Onboard a shuttle from Space Station Abaccas to Earth, Mirasia `Mira' Carver finds herself in an unbelievable situation when the small ship is stopped and boarded by cyborgs. Earth history states that cyborgs were destroyed over a generation ago, but one long look at the cyborg leader and Mira is glad they survived.
The plan is to stop the shuttle and collect whatever materials they can without consigning the humans to certain death before reaching Earth. When Flint gets a look at Mira he knows exactly what he wants to take off the shuttle.
Mira and Flint are quite willing to accept the desire and instant connection they feel without question. Unfortunately, it's the human emotions and cyborg rules that continually trip up their burgeoning love. Misunderstandings may rip this pair apart before they ever get the chance to bond.
Opposites attract and passions explode in Burning Up Flint. Miscommunication is what fuels Burning Up Flint with love and understanding the key. It's right to sympathize with Mira's plight, but she comes off as thoughtless to consequences at times while Flint's dictatorship ways during lovemaking leaves me wondering how Mira ever got excited. The main characters have chemistry, but failed to connect with me at times. Burning Up Flint is original and intriguing and even though I didn't always understand them, I still enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to reading book two.

I find these books to be like candy :). Very easy to read and I just love the descriptions that are never heavy, but yet effective. The Hero was infuriating at times, ok, most of the time. But looking at it in context of the world as it is there, it makes more sense.
So even though I kept going "oh no you didn't", I just couldn't stop reading.
I did want to slap the heroine for begging on her knees though. Arggg lol.

This erotic romance not Shakespeare, so in that regard: the grammar, the editing, the plot, and the character development were fine, no complaints there.
But both H/h were idiots.
SPOILER
Cyborgs were created on earth, when they became a bit to human the new race were doomed for genoside. The way the author describes it makes it seem like a slaves led by Ghandi being offed by nazis. Yet the cyborg Flint/ lead idiot takes Mira as property and he doesn't see anything wrong with it - thats hurdle number one.
On Flint's homeplanet mira learns that by law it is his responsibility to "au natural" impregnate other females -infidelity is hurdle number two.
Flint deals with both these hurdles as only an uncaring emotionally stumped cyborg can - my word is law..
Mira reacts like a 2 year old throwing a temper tantrum, she whines and threatens with suicide.
Neither lead are likable and that is a big no no, if I am to enjoy a book the leads can't be idiots or spineless.

Long ago, in the future, mankind creates mechanical humanoids (cyborgs) in their images, and then deems them too dangerous to live--right after they become sentient beings. After years of fighting, humans have been told by their governments that all cyborgs have been destroyed. Only a little lie, where governments are concerned.
Flint is a cyborg, one of the many who escaped the slaughter. He, like other cyborgs is an Alpha male and doesn't like sharing. He just happens to be in charge of the ship that attacks Mira's little shuttle. Flint takes her as his.
Mira is a wealthy aristocrat, so she's inherently not okay with being called property or slave. Understandable. However she's much too bold in the face of people who could crush her with their toe. In his room Flint pretty much rapes her, but it's okay because she's turned on--even though she's just been abducted by incredibly large cyborg's and told she will never go home again.
Then Mira immediately demands a monogamous commitment from Flint, even though she's his "property." She want's Flint to express his emotions for her and declare that he cares for her. Her attachment happens too fast for me. After only a day or two there are narrative comments like He was always surprising her.
At some point the title "property" freaks her out and she finally decides to escape. However, her shuttle is captured by pirates and she has to be rescued by Flint. Then there's about three or four pages of Mira apologizing and begging Flint not to sell her to the cyborg who had threatened to rape, beat, and temporarily sell her to all the other cyborgs for like an hour or two. Flint and Mira have sex again and then the begging continues. Then we go back to the whole, "I'm not property and I need a commitment issue."
The sex scenes were alright. The story line was interesting. Cyborgs are like humans only taller, stronger, and with silvery skin. They're a little dim when it comes to emotions, and they remind me of the Vulcan race every time Flint says something about Mira's logic is wrong.
I would have liked this story better if there wasn't so much repetitive dialogue.

At first glance at the description of the book, I chose not to read it. The way all of her books are described left me thinking that they would be very shallow and poorly written.
So when by chance I ended up reading this book, I was completely surprised to discover who it was by. The plots are well written, the characters are dynamic, the situations a mix of funny/dangerous and sensual. I really love her work.
Since then I have read everything she has put out and all I can say is wow. The Alien series is fun, the Cyborg series is sensual, the New species series is amazing and would be my favorite.
Look past the description and give her a chance. You will be riveted. I promise.
