I read this book completely under the impression that it was happening during the depression. That idea was so appealing and totally worked with the morals, education and financial themes in the book. Then, my story world crumbled when the Dora Night Light was turned on. Great story with characters I cared about. Please revise to the perfect time frame for these characters. It can only make something good even better:)

This book was a fun read, the main character Phoebe is a street smart women who speaks with a dialect that I have to say the author nailed. she has her hands full with family obligations and loads of family pride. Phoebe finds love in the most unexpected place. This author knows how to tell a story and keep the reader entertained. This book was a pleasure to read and I look forward to her next book...

the sudden "love" was abrupt and unbelievable. virtually all the dialogue was from phoebe, and phoebe's point of view. just enough from gage to think we might be getting somewhere, but not enough to make any sense at all wrt to his sudden turnaround to loving her.
very, very sick of hearing about family "pride".

Cleanliness, modesty, honesty, personal pride mixed with loyalty, work ethic and gritty determination to better herself and her family, the main character talks up a storm of feelings. Guilt, pity and respect take their turn in the rapid building of romance to a satisfying conclusion. Well written, although the dialogue needed a little cross-referencing, but was appropriate. An enjoyable read, will look for more by this author.

A delightful tale from the deep south with plenty of romance, humor, and pathos. Jackie Weger is a great discovery. Though Finding Home could have had deeper, more evocative characters, Weger's sassy southern voice made up for any deficiencies. FYI, the book does contain some sex.

Phoebe Hawley is a no-nonsense type of heroine. She is smart and sassy in her country ways and has a lot of responsibilities on her shoulders right now. Her character is well developed and likeable, although some of her methods are a bit underhanded. Maydean is a hoot, she provided a lot of unneeded stress for Phoebe, bless her little pre-teen heart; Ms. Weger had her down well. Everything that came out of this little spit-fire's mouth I could hear coming from my own daughters. (Pre-teen girls are a trial in and of themselves.) Willie-Boy was a typical five-year-old boy and provided a lot of comic relief and was a blessing to have around.
Gage Morgan is a handsome widower with a hard heart, and wasn't a character easy to like at first. As we learn about his character it was easy to understand why he had built a wall around his heart to protect it. His relationship with his daughter, Dorie, was another matter altogether, it made me wonder if he was worth the effort to get to know at all. However, Phoebe sees potential in this brash hardworking junkyard owner. One of my favorite things about this book was the heartwarming relationship that develops between Dorie, a lonely little girl who misses her mother, and Phoebe.
There is a light Christian theme that runs through Phoebe's upbringing that is not too in-your-face. I thought it fit with her character and she wasn't trying to convert anyone. A typical example is this passage.
She went onto the porch and stared up into the noonday sun until a kaleidoscope of colors blocked out true vision. Prudence, temperance, and fortitude swelled within her. Being noble was doing God's work, certain, she thought. Ma would be so proud.
"Whatcha doing standing out in the sun like that, Phoebe? You know it makes your freckles pop out."
What with feeling so fine spirited, Phoebe didn't like being reminded of earthly flaws. "I was prayin' over your food, Maydean, so you won't choke to death. The way you gobble I figured I'd better get as close to God as I could."
As the tenuous relationship between Gage and Phoebe develops both seem to change and begin to temper each other until one of Phoebe's schemes blows up in her face. I found this story a nice change of pace with real down home people and an easy read despite the backwoods, under-educated, country drawl. This is a nice, out of the ordinary, old time romance you are sure to enjoy. I found no significant editing or proofing issues with this book.
FYI: This book contains adult situations.

Fair disclosure: The author has become a friend. However, I really enjoyed this lively romance quite apart from that. It kept me so entertained on a flight down to visit the folks in Florida that my seat mates kept having to get my attention for stuff like the flight attendant's ginger ale. I barely noticed the time pass.
Phoebe is a fun character who gives as good as she gets, doesn't dwell on anything that goes badly, and just charges ahead to solve some pretty basic problems like figuring out how to not starve to death and keep a roof over her and her siblings' heads. For an inexperienced girl she sure doesn't mind putting it all on the line to get what she needs, and though the reader can't help wondering whether it's going to work out at times, you don't have to worry about an unhappy ending here.
Weger writes with style and verve. If you enjoy straight romance and a down-to-earth Gulf Coast setting, you're going to be all set with this one!

This was a interesting story about 3children trying to find a place to live and then to have her parents and sister come so that they could all live together. But everything turns different,so you want to keep reading to find out the surprise ending.

I loved this book. I would definitely recommend it. The live scenes are fine, especially for me since I just finished fifty shades of grey. It didn't lag and the story between the characters was great and it did have some comedy in it which I enjoyed very much

Loved the love story of Phoebe and Gage. Great story and character development. You will love the characters. Phoebe is a strong character with lots of obstacles to overcome, but she always as us lands on her feet with her head held high.

I'm all for love stories without steamy love scenes. Every adult can let their mind fill in the blanks once the bed sheets is involved. The plotting and planning Phoebe went thru had me laughing out loud. I could just picture each character. Such a good clean story. Wish I could rate it higher. Looking forward to reading more from this author.

Phoebe is a very strong character that dominates the book. I would have given the book 5 stars, but felt that the other characters, such as Gage, were not as well developed. Nevertheless, this is a very good read--I recommend it.

It was a very quick read, light and enjoyable. I live in the south so I appreciated the dialogue and Phoebe was a strong woman character, which I also enjoy. Just a little shallow on the plot. Good read for laying on the beach.

Easy fast reading, funny at times and a tad Graphic a few times. The main young character is perky and energetic. I don't want to give very much of the story as it can ruin it for someone else. Enjoy it as I did. GAB

I haven't enjoyed a simple feel-good type romance novel that leaves you smiling in spite of knowing what's going to happen like this one in a long while. I enjoyed it and recommend it. Thank you, Jackie Weger.

Good, lighthearted read. This is one of those "feel-good" type of stories where the woman is strong, hard-working and determined to get her man! The man (who has been wounded by the escapades of his late wife) is equally determined not to be roped into another situation. I laughed out loud while reading it.

I did not enjoy this book much. The main character, in her efforts to find a home for her family, disregards her "Christian" beliefs and heritage to get what she needs. She was manipulative and dishonest.
I don't mind reading about a person's honorable intentions, but her dishonorable manner winning out left a bad taste in my mouth.

Phoebe Hawley and Gage Morgan! Morgan pride was different, less boastful and quieter than Hawley pride. This book will make you cry and laugh all on the same page! Just read it and you'll see what I mean.

With the first few sentences I was not certain that I could identify with the main character in Finding Home, but within minutes I was hooked.I love Jackie Weger's writing style, and character development. The plot, although a bit predictable, (hey, it's a romance novel) was just what I wanted. I will definitely read more of Ms Weger's books.

I wish that there wasn't a happily ever after, because I would definitely read the further adventures of Phoebe.
