I highly recommend this book to anyone who would like a new perspective about tackling behavioral problems in schools. These methods will require time, effort and being tenacious, however I believe the results make it all worth it!

I have a son who has had behavior challenges since before pre-school. (He is now in 9th grade.) I have wanted to propose a different way for educators and others to deal with these behaviors but have had no suggestions. Ross W. Greene's Collaborative Problem Solving is what I have needed. It matches what my husband and I have intuitively found works best with our son. The book gently begins with describing the difficulities and problems these students face, gradually moves through how to approach these students and their challenges, extends this approach to working with the whole classroom, and ends with ideas to implementing it thoughout the school. I am so excited about it I hope to attend a workshop along with educators in the district and be an advocate for Collaborative Problem Solving in the school district!

Read this book and stopped repeating IEP's that did not really work. I began looking for teachers and schools more in line with the methods in the book. My daughter is now honor roll and may graduate early! Teachers and IEP staff don't always have the answers. Parents, before you decide you can't fix things, please read this book.

Ross Greene gets a situation that virtually nobody else even gets. This book is fabulous, except it sad it seems read by so few school people in my area. My nephew is bright, kind, and funny, but according to his school he's an extreme problem. I could buy the school a copy of the book, but they wouldn't even consider using it. Sad.

"Lost at School" was recommended to me by the principal at my 2nd grader's school and it has changed the way I think about my son's challenging behaviors. I used to see his lack of attention and difficulty with following directions as defiance but Dr. Greene's ideas have helped me stay calm and approach our clashes as problems to be resolved collaboratively instead of through power struggles or punishments. I highly recommend this book to anyone who deals with challenging kids, whether as a teacher or school employee or as a parent.

Lost at School is a good review/introduction to CPS. Green gives plenty of good examples of the process. The book works best in the narrative sections that review CPS. It is less effective/well-written in the other sections. As in, Explosive Child, Green could use a better editor. In parts it is written in the over-wrought language of academics and that is where it drags. Nonetheless, I would still recommend this to anyone who is working/living with a child with "behavior issues" who is school-aged.

Good, useful advice for teachers presented in an understandable way. Will be of great help to teachers trying to work with children who do not respond well to normal approaches and respond in a highly emotional way to situations that would not concern most students. Takes a more 'educational' approach to difficult behaviour rather than a behaviour management or medication approach. As a result it is likely to easily fit into the style of most teachers.

I like the format of this book- information, plus a story of a child that goes along with it. I'd like to see more research or evidence presented on the model, but everything makes sense and I hope to try it in my classroom soon.

Thoughtful alternative to the 'consequence and reinforcement' strategy for kids who truly have "lagging skills". You must read this with an open mind, postponing until the end of the book your decision regarding the "practicality" of this approach. I think by then you will begin to understand our missteps with some of our kiddos that truly don't have the response skills to "just behave". Consequence might stop the misbehavior for the moment, but it will not teach the skills needed to stop the reoccurance of the behavior.

Ross Greene has done it again! A wonderful book for parents, teachers, school administrators, mental health professionals, and anyone else interested in school-age children. It offers a different way of approaching difficult children.

The following phrases should make sense to a person who plans interventions to help a child reduce his/her challenging behaviours. They are: compassionate and accurate understanding, non-punitive, non- adversarial, improve communication, solve problems collaboratively, and try to repair relationships! I am an ardent supporter of Dr, Greene’s CPS Model!

If you are responsible for children for any stretch of time, you will find yourself meeting THAT kid eventually. The kid that makes you question everything you thought you knew. This book is a readable guide to navigating those difficult children who simply do no respond to typical discipline systems. If you are a teacher, parent, administrator or other concerned adult, this book offers a clear framework for developing a system that can get you ahead of maladaptive, or troubling, behaviors. It also follows an example story that can lead you to understand the ends and outs of what life is like for the kids that are really frustrating you, but are also being forgotten and lost by the adults that struggle to meet their needs. If you are looking for further help, you can also search Dr. Greene's websites for help increasing your skills at meeting the needs of your most challenging students.

As an alternative school principal,I really enjoyed the practical examples and templates for implementing these positive discipline strategies. The book also made me really reflect on how I ensure my own kids are learning from their mistakes and not just being punished.

I can't thank Ross Greene enough for writing this book. The explanation is simple, logical and thorough. He makes us see the situation from the child's perspective, which is also an important aspect that adults often neglect in effective communication. This book is a lifesaver. It feels like he's been giving me personal consultation about my child. I made sure that his teacher read this book too.

The book goes thru an appropriate and empathetic system for communicating with students about behavior. It works well with current Race To The Top mandates, Response to Intervention systems, and APL management initiatives. I have used plan B already and have found that breaking the process down like Green has works.

I am a middle school teacher. Our school decided to use this book as a whole for one year. It has a lot of great ideas but it took a lot of time. Also, I was excited to get to the part of the book that they described how to teach students the skills that they lacked but that part never came. It was basically as if students problems would fix themselves because you were having conversations with the students which is not always the case.
It definitely changed that I thought about some of the behavior that students have but they book was lacking in how to teach the missing skills.

The content is great, but the book arrived starting at page 17. I would like the full book considering the price & that I'm a full time grad student with very limited funds.

*Please send me the book that includes all pages as I need it for graduate school - Thank you!
