Am in the middle of Mikes Trend Following book & have read all others. Complete Turtle is my favorite; Fascinating story of how two brilliant men, Richard Dennis & William Eckhardt hired and created Traders in a trading school environment. A few would go on for decades generating geometric mean returns better then most of their peers in the HF/CTA space. Mike goes into some detail on the experiences of the top 3 Turtles, Jerry Parker (considered the most successful Turtle who went on to manage over $1B in AUM with his Chesapeake Fund), Paul Rabar (under the radar but a very smart hombre) and Elizabeth Cheval who would go on to be top female CTA for years. Mike also has had other former Turtles on his Podcasts which Im greatful to have stumbled on because this added great color. Having worked for a top Trend following CTA and actually covering Elizabeth Cheval in 1989 while starting out on the sell side and being exposed to many of the top performers Mikes book totally resonated.

A thoroughly enjoyable expose that shines a light on the story behind well known trading program. It is good from the point of view it does not seem to hold back on what seems to have occurred showing the elements of human nature such as pride and arrogance in full flight.
In addition it presents the basic trading rules used by the group that seem to have been quite successful at that time. This book is a good read and well worth having in the library of the serious trader.

This book is great for the novice trader! It explains how important it is for one's psychology is a mandatory prerequisite to live trading. The concept of nurture over nature proves that anyone who reads this book can be successful at trading. Great read!

This has been a very helpful book. It describes a system of stock picking that, so far (4 wks) has worked for me. It's worth a try if you are searching for a system. It sure worked for the Turtle students.

While no one would claim expertise on any subject after reading a book, I believe this one will give you enough to begin building a solid foundation. Strongly recommend understanding trend following even if that is not what you will do with your money. M. Covel has a very entertaining style and this book tells a great story.

After enjoying "Trend Commandments", I could not fail "The Complete Turtle Trader". I ended up with managing the first idea of a sound system to apply to my trading. The first thing I gained? Freedom from monitors and gurus. I feel as if I am investing for the first time. Thanks Mr. Covel

This book changed how I thought about trading. The only thing I didn't like about it was that Michael Covel used the word turtle so much that by the time I finished the book, I never wanted to hear the word again. But this was an excelent buy.

Congrats. All the basics are right in front of the reader... the info in this
valuable book gives the serious reader a good understanding of the trend
trading concept, then allows them to build their own personalized system,
utilizing a time proven method as the foundation.
The book certainly also proves the long term success of trend following.

I think this author is the most honest writer who wrote the truth about trading society. I spent the whole night finished reading the whole book when i received it in the mail, excellent, thanks to the author who must have been spending a lot of time for this book.

Fantastic read, part story, part education. There is no denying the success of the turtles. Don't try and reinvent the wheel, follow the rules and share in the success of those who have gone before you.

well, it is considered a very good starting book for the beginner in the future / forex market. the book only used few chapter in introducing the turtle rules and how they manage their strategy, then the rest of the book ( around 60-70%) is the story of the turtle on how they separated up, how they start their own career, and so on...nothing really connected to your ideas on how to manage your own account. anyway overall it is good

This was my second book on the Turtles, and serves as a needed counterpoint to "Way of the Turtle", published by one of the turtles.
By "Complete..." seems to actually be meant, "...all I could find out, despite stiff, even vehement opposition to my finding out anything at all, let alone publishing, by a number of those Turtles..." The book is not an expose of a scam - it's just that some of the Turtles felt that their experience (and ensuing successes) ought not to become public domain. One of the reasons for that is likely that the market (then and now) is a zero-sum game: whatever money you make trading, other traders lose, in aggregate. If all trading becomes [more] rational, then those with the "inside scoop" (the Turtles and their ilk) stand to make far less money off the rubes. "Complete..." doesn't get quite that blunt, but it comes to that. So, the book is quite helpful in supporting your introspection on whether futures trading is for you. It may be, it may not...

Both Trend Following & The Complete Turtle Trader will change you view of trading. I've read hundreds of investing books & of those these enhanced my knowledge the most!! I HIGHLY recommend these books for anyone...experienced or not.

Unfortunately, most universities teach investment techniques that may or may not work given enough time. But individual investors have a 70-80 year life expectancy and time is of the essence. Michael does a remarkable job pointing out there is a alternative to the buy, hold and hope mentality. It is worth your read if for no other reason than to open your mind to the possibility of another way of viewing the investment world.

Covel does an outstanding job telling the complete-whole story of the Turtles, from the very beginning 'till the time the book was published. So compelling I read it in one night & a couple times since then. Covel also has a book titled "Trend Following," that I ordered from here & read.

It is interesting reading, but not very practical for actual trading. It is a compilation of how successful the turtles were, but it doesn't provide much technical information of how they did it. I may have been expecting too much from a book and that is why I am disappointed in what it provided.

The book tells the story behind the Turtles. Who they were, what they did and then there experiences of being a Turtle. It gives insights into the system used by the turtles which then opened my mind to investigating my own personal turtle trading system.
This book was recommended to me by a proven successful trend following trader in Australia. He has built his own long and medium term systems based on this turtles system. I know for a fact that this guy keeps a copy of this book on his desk and refers to it on a daily basis, even if it is just to reassure him when the going gets tough.
Don't expect to be spoon fed "buy stock XYZ when its price breaks $X...". You will however learn so much from this book! Especially recommended for those who are just starting in your trading journey.
