Mixture of anecdote and pointed critique, Baldwin exposes a reality that many ignore, and many others suffer every day. True now as ever, those who oppress will only be free when they release their victims of oppression.

Hopefully this book will be required reading for anyone who cares about the incredible cloud of racism that covers our country. Mr. Baldwin is a great writer and clearly lays out his views. I loved the book. I can't believe I hadn't read it before.

So many fields of study that were answered so simply and eloquently in this less than 300 pages. Baldwin addresses so many points of American history that are astonishingly so true and almost depressing at that.

Fantastic read. An in-earnest effort at a clear-eyed view of America's future--the same future of her many peoples and their ability or lack of inability to empathize and understand their common fate.

James Baldwin is brilliant, articulate, and insightful. His analysis of the racism of his lifetime and its history is equally as relevant today. In order to achieve a better country, we all must understand what exists and what is at risk, and James Baldwin explains it all better than anyone.

This book really helped me refocus on my passion for cultural appreciation, racial unification, progression of society. A must read for all cultures to understand the state of blacks in America, and how we all can use the past to improve the future.

I have always enjoyed James Baldwin ' s writing and "Fire Next Time" proved to be the same. Baldwin, with words, can vividly open up a scene to a point you relate to or share in the experience of what is being deacribed. I have always enjoyed Baldwin ' s characters as he describes them, you come to know them. The book is a must read.

Although baldwin has had heaps of negative feedback for his writing-I enjoyed the book. It depicts the civil rights probably less malicously about whites than most books which is why he was critized but it was a good read.
