A very well considered story. The emotional and physical descriptions showed a care of someone who spent a lot of time and efforts to depict a grand sagas beginning. I sincerely hope book 2 continues to tell this story and any later books with the same or better care.

Exceptionally original tale that breaks down the doors of this style of fiction.
The characters really come to life, and make you feel what they are going through.
Book 2 can't come soon enough.

I rarely leave reviews, but this book demands it. The author weaves a spellbinding tale of the MC’s trials and force of will which allows their spirit to remain unbroken in light of circumstances that should, by all rights, have utterly broken them. Well done, I am eagerly awaiting the next installment in this fascinating story. I literally could not put the book down until I finished it.

This is only my second book of this genre ( honestly I never thought I'd enjoy the genre )
But the story was great. The characters where well thought out and where easy to connect to. The plot is good and the story kept me hooked. I can't wait for book two.

I could not stop reading this book. The characters, especially the protagonist Wes Malcolm, were visceral, raw and real. The storyline is refreshingly different from other LitRPG and reeled me in quickly. I can't say enough good things. Read it!

Really liked this book and the main character. Honestly, it took me a couple days to get into it, because it started kinda slow and depressing. By the end I was very much invested in the story and my only real complaint is that it ended before I was ready to stop reading.

Most authors that try to push their own personal philosophy as a narrative in their story are not subtle about it in anyway... However this particular philosophy really spoke to me in this moment of my life... Protect Prevail...this is a worth while read

Loved the premise of this book, I really enjoyed the way you put the story together. It has the elements of several different genres and suggests a few more. In reality there is no NEW story possible, however the mark of a good author is finding a way to combine the old stories into something enjoyable. This author has done an admirable job, good on you sir, more please.

The incarnation of generic transported to another world wish fulfillment that targets all my triggers . Normally for me interest in the characters, the raw joy of seeing a character improve, or just a lack of annoyance is enough to get me through a book. This book however fulfilled none of those requirements. The desire to see what happened in the normal world kept me going for awhile however it was not enough to carry me past the end of the first adventure. A hyperactive person who assumes deeper levels of intimacy than you reached is irritating it real life and in this book. I assume due to this being the first one star review no one else agrees but for me the dialogue was just generally cringy as well (with the fairy companion specifically). I don’t know I guess I just sensed too much wish fulfillment, strangely detailed descriptions of the villains gross actions, and more that just remind me of all my least favorite parts of vaguely competently written books for me to find this enjoyable. 1/5

Author takes elements of myth, and the genres of both fantasy and lit-rpg, to weave together a fascinating tale. A sympathetic protagonist works to overcome his weaknesses, face Challenges, all the while trying to overcome the death of his father and an accident that has left him crippled. A solid system framework, and care of world building, makes the story hooks dig all the further. Look forward to future entries in the series.

An absolutely phenomenal entry into the LitRPG scene, Thompson's character building, humor, and overall writing style is on par with the top authors. The story is slightly light on game mechanics, but power progression is sensicle and meaningful. Well written combat and dialogue, solid plot, and a great cliff hanger. Well worth the shot I gave it, and looking forward to the next entry.

I loved every minute of this book. Brutal and unforgiving but the character and plot development has all the more power and weight for it. It was well-written with no grammar issues or awkwardness that I noticed. I read it via Kindle unlimited but went back and bought it to support the author. I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for the next one! Keep it up!

Picked up this book while looking for so.ething to read. Was not disappointed! It takes you on a great development of the main character and adds a bit of modern day to the fantasy genre. The character development is solid and had me turning each page looking forward to what was going to happen next. Only down side is I have to wait for the next book ....looks like I'm going to re read while I wait..

Other than the torture porn part of the the second half of the book, this was one of the best litrpgs I've read.
Nathan has come up with quite the original idea here and I'm eager to read more.

I loved this story and the characters. I will say that the elaborate conspiracy surrounding the main character seems a little extreme and could have been explained a little earlier in the story but overall one of the best starts to a story that I have seen in a while.
