A favorite of my favorites! Like so many second novels in a series, I found this one to go so far above the likability of the first. The characters are awesome, the plot is wonderfully twisty, and Valek-- well, we enjoy pining for him with Yelena from a distance. But the other males, magicians, and murderers in this novel seriously complicate this devoted pining time. Snyder proves to me that she is a master story weaver!

As always an amazing read. Her characters are always painted so life-like for me, and who doesn't love a kick-ass female protag? This whole series has been my cup of tea and if you enjoy magic, mystery and a unique medieval-type world then I'd recommend giving this series a go (but start with book 1 - it's much more fun that way!)

In this second book, Yelena finds herself in trouble once again, this time south of the border. Some of the questions of her past will be answered, and some new friends and enemies will join her in this adventure. As with the first book, the writing is tight and the action fast-paced. Loved it!

Yelena meets her family and learns how to control her magical abilities. I love Maria V. Snyder's work. I finished the book the same day it was delivered. I ordered Fire study and I can't wait to know how this story ends. I know I will be re-reading this series my whole life. You won't regret getting this book or the others.

The authors tone is visibly more snarky and sassy in this book.

I can't say that I truly enjoyed. I don't know how she went from Poison Study to this, this horrible dissolving story. It had it's peaks, I appreciated them when they came, but the story as whole was completely lacking.

I wish she had taken the time to really plot out the characters and their dialogue. Instead I feel like she pushed through writing to meet a deadline and in her haste she left her attitude within the writing.

No Bueno.

A really good third book for this series, as long as it doesn't stay a trilogy. Like some others have said, there's a lot going on, but not a lot happening. There was a lot of foreshadowing that didn't go anywhere, and the end was abrupt after finally getting to a satisfying point in the story. As long as there is another book that follows this one it won't be a dissapointment.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the Study series and this did not disappoint. Yelena identified as a magician can no longer stay in Ixia. She returns to Sitia to meet her long lost family only to find her brother thinks she is a spy. There are multiple new adventures and new teachers as well. A good read.

Wonderfully written book. I enjoyed everything about it. I love yelenas strong character and will to follow through with her beliefs no matter the cost. Some probably thought it was stupid but I think it's inspiring. This book was so action packed and moved so fast I could never find the right time to stop reading. Just. Wonderful.

How very How very disappointing!! I have been waiting a long time to read this book. I loved Poison Study and Magic Study, but this one just doesn't live up to the excitement and entertainment that I found in the first two books. I really enjoyed the romance between Yelena and Valek, but since it's such a small part of this story, I just can't stay interested in all the other things going on. Frankly, I haven't even finished this one and I am not sure if I ever will.

Not as good as poison study. However still an amazing read. The plot was fast paced and had a relatively original story line. I would recommend this book to those that like any other Maria V. Snyder books.

Poison Study was an interesting concept and hooked me into reading more. Unfortunately each subsequent book dwindled in comparison. Fire Study was boring, predictable and had me happy to be done with the series.

I've actually just finished the entire Study series (Fire Study comes after Magic Study) and am sorry there isn't another. I'm not usually a fan of books written in the first person, but the Sitia/Ixia world is addictive and compelling and Yelena is a wonderfully written character. I just wish there had been some kind of epilogue so we could know more about how things panned out after the big finale!

I really liked this book. I liked Poison Study, the first in this trilogy and it made me want to read this book and I don't feel it was a let down. It was a quick read because I didn't want to put it down!

This books is stunning. The plot twists and turns in unexpected but delightful directions. The suspense is pitched perfectly and the characters are built into living, breathing people. I love that I got to have both the characters from Sitia and those from Ixia in this book.

The story is astounding and compelling. I dare you to put it down. I certainly couldn't.

Magic Study is not as interesting a book as Poison Study. In Magic Study, Yelena leaves in search of her magical roots. Valek is left behind. Lacking the interaction and tension between Valek and Yelena which made the first book interesting, the plot of Magic Study suffers. The book was not terrible; is just was not compelling. I picked up Poison Study and could not set it down; not a problem with Magic Study. The third book, Fire Study, will have to return to the quality of the first for me to keep buying the series.

This follow-up to Poison Study was a complete letdown. The characters were undeveloped, erratic and unbelievable. The storyline was all over the place, and after the thrill of the first book, I really expected more.
