Deadly is a mysterious story about four seniors, Hanna, Spencer, Aria, and Emily. Each of the four girls grew up in Rosewood, along with their beloved Ali. After Ali, who is actually Courtney, befriended the girls, the girls noticed a change in Ali. Not only did Ali ask to be their friend, Ali herself had started to be a not so loyal friend, leaving the girls embarrassed and lonely. Ali started to spread their darkest deepest secrets, talk about them behind their backs, and tease them. For example when Ali and Aria had seen Aria’s dad and one of his college students making out in his car, Ali continuously teased and made fun of Aria. Does that sound like a great friend? One night Ali was murdered and then it all began. The four oblivious girls started to receive notes by someone named “A”. It was torture for all of them, “A” was ruining their lives. In Deadly almost jumped off the Rosewood bridge to kill herself the torture was so horrid. Whoever the girls tell about “A” those people will get hurt or even worse killed.
Deadly is a realistic fiction but could and also be a mystery, you are on your toes constantly and you are just dying to decipher what is going to happen. We all know that someone cannot come back to life after death, but Ali could have helpers to set the girls up and all of the events that are occuring could actually happen in real life, that is why it could also be realistic fiction. I love the way Sara Shepard wrote the story. The text always consists of humor and makes us feel apart of the story. If you want to feel like you are on a roller coaster of excitement and mystery, I suggest you sit down and read Deadly.

I absolutely love this series and I buy every book the day it comes out if I haven't already preordered it, but as I'm currently reading the fourteenth book in the series I'm wondering if they will end sometime soon because it's getting more unbelieveable than they were in the beginning. If you have not read the book yet, stop now because of spoilers. I'm currently at chapter 13 I believe and the FBI is now involved and it's like come on already like if the FBI can't help than that means either one of two things, someone in the FBI is in on it with Ali and the girls aren't safe or Ali is going to some how magically get by the security all the girls have and someone will be killed by the end of this book. I'm sorry, but is Ali a cat, ghost or a genius because she seems to have 9 lives, she's never seen by anyone and it seems like thr whole country knows about the case and she outsmarts every damn person in the series and is one step ahead kf everyone else. I really hope that 15 or 16 will be the end because it's such a long series when you look at it and dragging it out makes it look desperate, predictable and more fans will probably stop reading and just Google to see who A is instead of spending $20 when the new books released.

A is bAck in town! Yes, Alison herself!

This book starts off with a fiery bang as the real Alison DeLaurentis comes running out of a burning house on the night she tried to kill the Liars. Questions keep cropping and popping up. Did Alison act alone? Are there any other As Abetting and Aiding her in her Attempts to kill her rivAls?

Agent Fuji who has been on the case for some time steps in again. She insists that the Liars turn over anything A wrote or texted them; the girls in turn ask that all charges against them be dropped. (The Liars were charged with tampering with evidence and sending false texts.) The Liars also ask for 24 hour protection as they have reason to feel Alison is still alive and responsible for the rash of A AttAcks. The Liars were also charged with the murder of Tabitha Clark in Jamaica after A sent Agent Fuji a video of them Allegedly Attacking her. The question also comes up as to whether or not Tabitha is really dead and if Tabitha was an A or in any way connected with A.

Aria, who has always been my favorite Liar is being stalked through her art. A has been stalking her and somehow found out she took a trip to Iceland with Hanna. After a bizarre art theft and its repercussions, Aria has been all the more in danger.

Emily, like Spencer has a yoyo family. They go up and down in loving her and shunning her. In this installment, Emily's family shuns her after the charges were brought against her and her fellow Liars. They still have trouble accepting the fact that she is bisexual and had a baby without telling them. Emily's mother has a heart attack and Emily is barred from seeing her.

Hanna, who has a father even a pit bull shouldn't have is also shunned. Her father ousts her from his life and tells her she will tarnish his reputation and hurt his chances of winning the senate election.

Spencer is still struggling to get into Princeton and remain in the good graces of her family. An Acura and its key might be the key to unlocking yet another mystery involving A.

There is someone who appears to be linked to all the mysteries involving each Liar. The question remains is this person A or somebody Aiding and Abetting A? Are there more A's?

Things get even hairier...the Liars are Abducted and are locked into a shrine to Alison, who may or may not be the original A. It is possible there are other As. The girls' lives are threatened and... Stay tuned, folks...you'll want to follow up with "Toxic" and "Vicious." The Liars have Rosewood, Pennsylvania by storm!

I've had my doubts about Shepard's ability to rejuvenate this series, but this entry and the book before it help to at least point things in the right direction. Do I think it's still more-or-less a cash grab to have the series be this long? Yes. But was "Deadly" a good book? It certainly was.

This book could more or less be presented in 3 chunks. The first 50% was quite good. I liked how Fuji was helping them figure out the whole "A" situation and how they finally had law enforcement on their side, and how they were forwarding the "A" notes off, rather than keeping it to themselves. It was smart, and sort of continued a trend from the previous book to wise up -- although it hits my past criticism that these girls did a real 180 on their attitude and approach, and I think Shepard took too many liberties here. They acted like damn fools for books 9 to 12, and then suddenly now they smarten up? It's just inconsistent to their characters.

The middle 30% or so, while still good, was a bit of a bummer since everyone believed they were murderers. Each chapter was mostly just more of the same "things are falling apart, my family can't stand to look at me" stuff. I don't know if it needed to keep stretching.

The final 20% or so? Quite good. Although admittedly, Shepard has been fairly good about nailing down the final few chapters -- sometimes to a fault, because sometimes the 80% that preceded it was mediocre at best. Nevertheless, it was a very suspenseful ending, and it almost felt like a conclusion to the story, but not quite. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the way Shepard tweaked her "what happens next" segment into a rather stirring entry from Ali's perspective was rather creepy. I'm still not fully accepting that someone like Ali could actually be that many steps ahead at all times, but suspension of disbelief and all, I guess.

All in all, a great entry. Flawed at times like some before it, but the best since "Wanted". I was ready to call it quits on this series, but now I'm willing to continue to "Toxic". With "Vicious" already announced as the upcoming final entry, one has to hope Shepard won't yet again change her mind. I hope, because it's time to retire the PLL book series. 8/10.

Who is A.? Is Ali really still alive?

This was a bit of a return to form for this series, and I really enjoyed it!
The girls were still being hunted in this book, but this time they actually went to the police, and confessed everything that A./Ali had been doing. Noted that this didn’t quite work out the way they planned (ha ha!) but at least they were doing something, rather than sitting around saying ‘oh poor me, Ali is still out there, whatever shall I do?’.
I have to say that the twists and turns in this one were good though. It seemed like every turn that girls took, Ali was once step ahead of them, and boy did she pull out all the stops this time. All four of the girls ended up royally screwed at several points during this book, and I loved how entertaining this was! Several of the recent books in this series have been disappointing, but this one was so much better and I was impressed.
The girl’s guesses for who A. was were once again pretty lame, especially when the real A. was revealed at the end of the book and proved to be very clever.
This book did have its issues; unbelievable moments and things that were a bit ridiculous, and once again Ali is back from the dead, but overall I enjoyed this, and was able to look past these things.
Overall; much better!
8.5 out of 10.

Overall, this book was pretty decent. The girls finally decide to go to the cops with all the A stuff that has been happening with them and the cops give them each a personal bodyguard. Most of the book, the girls are finally feeling safer because the cops have their back and someone actually believes them about A and is doing something about it. Then that backfires and A frames them and they get in trouble and their families, especially Emily's, turn their backs on them. I was so angry for about the last half of the book because of how Emily's family reacted. They were so rude to her and completely shut her out when they needed to be with each other and I just about stopped reading because I was that angry. We finally find out who A is and it kind of blew my mind, but it actually made complete sense, which I was happy about. The book ends with some things wrapped up but not everything, so there will obviously be another book. I was glad this book was over but it was a quick read and it was pretty good because we finally got some answers.

Some of the other reviewers already posted a lot of my thoughts, so I won't bore you by repeating more of the same.

Like other reviewers, I don't understand how we're supposed to believe the video footage tampering. It's not the same as photoshop, it's not that easily done, and I can't stand the "can't we just 'enhance' the video/audio" myth criminal investigation shows perpetuated. And one thing I'd like to add to this belief issue that I feel needs to be addressed, why don't any of the girls ever try to catch what's "hiding in the bushes" or run after the "shadows slipping behind a corner/mailbox/rock/whatever." Everytime they think they see or hear Ali nearby, they just go about doing what they're doing - which is usually something they're not supposed to be doing! It irks me.

Other than that I agree that the book kept me turning the pages until I came to the end, tumped my Kindle Fire upside down, and asked myself, "Where's the rest of it???? I need more!" Until the next book comes out in June, I guess I should get over my fan complaints and count down the days. Keeping myself barely satisfied when the show returns after the terrible Ravenswood prequel.

Ready for more adventures in the Pretty Little Liars series. Get ready for Deadly which is more intense as the girls lies are about to be aired and this time the lies that may be revealed are ones that will send them if they aren't careful to jail. Spencer has been kicked out of Penn U and her escapades with drugs may come out in the open , Hanna's car crash involving Madison is about to come in the open and may damage not only her father's campaign but also her father's relationship with her. Remember the Iceland situation where Aria helped Olaf steal the fake painting , now that's come to bite her in the butt and Emily's selling of her baby to Gayle will be revealed and have her kicked out of her home. This was a fascinating novel once again and OMG we discover who A's male helper is and how he has managed to weasel his way into each of the Pretty Little Liars lives as different guys. This is a book that if you are a fan of Pretty Little Liars and only read this book if you have read the others in the series.

{my thoughts} – this book picked up some where’s in the midst of where the last few have left off. I am starting to dislike Miss Shepard’s writing style more and more. She likes to go back and re-write past events in a different perspective and I am not sure that is always needed.

The girls search through this book for helper A and A they are determined to prove that she is still alive and the one taunting them. However, it all goes terribly wrong and the girls are convicted for all Helper A’s and A’s crimes.

The book ended on a better note. It helps to tie a lot of the characters from previous books together. It also gives some closure as to what has actually been taking place over the past few years in the books.

If you are a fan of this series I suggest you read the book as it helps to answer many questions. It also brings up many more. I hadn’t expected the ending, but it was well worth the time I spent reading the book.

after the last several mainly boring books wondering what happened to ali after the fire, this book you finally find out. which is awesome. finally all those odd situations the liars got into over the last four books or so finally comes together and ends with this book. gotta say I got hooked from the very first book because of the mystery. this is one of the better books in the series like some of the first ones were. Im looking forward to the next book as it will start fresh with new lies for the liars and for ali. cant wait til next summer which is when I think the next one comes out. I hate waiting. read this in two days.

Lets start with the fact that the story being outstretched too much and being way too long. We readers are starting to be exasperated. Hopefully book 16 will really be the last one of the series and will give us a spectacular ending!
Now about book 14, i have to say that even though some of the plots are unrealistic, it still gives a good time. i would say a different level compared to the rest of the collection. Shepard really did a great job. Thats probably why i gave a full rating's stars!

let me just start by saying i consider my self to be a huge pll tv show and book fan. i think the first eight books were absolutely magic. but it started slowing down the pace after book eight. out of the newer books this is proably one of the best. you find out who helper a is. its unexpected but still a little dissapointing. i mean you can only write so many plot twists and scenarios. but im not complaining though i love reading more. pretty little liars has changed my life and overall its an amazing series

I have been waiting for this book since June, but it was so worth it! I was wondering when A was going to finally tell their secrets, because frankly the whole blackmailing thing was getting too reptitive. I literally felt like crying when the girls were arrested, I mean that was the only thing that annoyed me because the girls ALWAYS get blamed for the things A does (even though they did do some bad things) And omg, they revealed A!!! I knew that it was going to be this person, but I cant give it away now can I :) (hint: read alis pretty little lies for a clue) anyway it was just really good and I soo cant wait for Toxic!

I've been a HUGE fan of both the Pretty Little Liars books and the TV shows for a couple of years, so of course I was super excited when this book finally came out. I downloaded it on my iPad and it took me about 3 days to read. It was SUPER good and finally answered some questions. However, some parts are little inappropriate which makes my mom question if I should be allowed to continue the series or not. I would definitely love* it if Sara Shepard could make it more about the story line instead of the bad and inappropriate stuff.

Ok so this book does come off as far fetched at time but it was amazing. I could not believe the ending where u find out who it is behind all this. There has to be at least one more book after this. The girls are still alive and you can tell its not over yet.
