Kingsolver is an excellent writer whose story about the butterflies involves both a vivid imagination, and a literary genius. It is an excellent read because Kingsolver knows how to combine both reality and fiction into a great read.

One of her earlier efforts, BK brings humanity to the desert in memorable scenes that string together lives that don't seem quite normal, but then again, who is normal? If you like Kingsolver, you'll love this book.

Love this book!!! I have read it twice, and will always keep it in my library. Barbara Kingsolver is a wonderful author, so if you haven't read anything by her, you are missing out! I also would suggest Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.

Kingsolver always combines great storytelling with beautiful language. Commonplace themes like loneliness, parent-child relationships, our place in society are given a poetic treatment that is always satisfying and never boring.

I am familiar with the geography of this story and the author kept me clearly seeing the small town and her characters. She gives good descriptions. I did have some difficulty following the back and forth of the plots but I did get it together at the end. I like her style and would read another one of her stories.

I always enjoy reading Barbara Kingsolver's stories and this one is not different. I like the way that the characters stories and backstories are slowly revealed. As usual Kingsolver includes snippets of something magical in her writing. This time it is aspects of native american culture that create the magic. Overall a nice, comfortable read.

The beauty of Kingsolver's writing combined with the opportunity to "live" in other places and cultures made reading this book pure pleasure. The only negative in the whole experience is turning the last page and realizing there is no more to enjoy!

This story kept me interested from beginning to end which is very hard for most novels to do. I love the attention to detail of the surroundings in the story and linking them to the present. For this one cannot help feel connected to the world through Kingsolver's novels.
