If your a civil war reading novice like myself this book is a must read. While I've read many good books relating mainly to the earlier part of the civil war and quite a few readings on gettysburg, this book fully bought it all together from gettysburg to Appromadx. The wrap up at the end regarding the major players from both sides was also a great finishing touch. Jeff Sahara is a remarkle writer. I've read three of his books and each one I've found I just can't the book down.

My husband loved this book because of the background information given on major individuals in the Civil War. The book also gave information about these men and what happened to them after the Civil War. Very insightful book.

Just finished reading this book and it winds up the "Killer Angels" series, leaving me with a better understanding of a war of this magnitude fought in our country against our citizens of our country. Two bullies punch it out to the end.

The author did an excellent job of weaving fiction with non fiction together making very good story of General Grant and General Lee.Makes the reader feel he is right in the Civil War with the Generals.Highly recommend this book for people interested in the Civil War.

I can't really remember everything about this book But I know I loved it enough to buy the set, Gods & Generals, The Killer Angels, also by the Shaaras. Highly recommend if your a Civil War history geek.

This novel is entertaining and brings never to be forgotten Civil War leaders into the present. If you know the names of those, from the north and south, that prosecuted the war, the book brings all to life. If you do not know the names of key military leaders after you finish reading you will. Plus, you'll have a base of accurate knowledge regarding Civil War tactical and operational combat.

Over 100 reviews of this work have been written to date - and many more relating to the other works of this trilogy - leaving not much unsaid. Nonetheless, The Last Full Measure stacks up well against Jeff Shaara's previous work in Gods & Generals. Like that work, this approaches the quality of The Killer Angels, which still stands alone in the area of Civil War literature. Also, similar to G&G, The LFM would have benefitted from the inlcusion of more maps.

I thought the book was entertaining, but not at the level of the "Killer Angels". While many of the characters were the same between the books, I felt in the "Killer Angels" you got a great deal more insight into the characters and their feelings on the war and the impact it had on their lives.

This is a great improvement on his "Gods & Generals" which suffered in comparison to his father's "Killer Angels". Now he is writing at the same level as his father and this book makes a fitting conclusion to the Civil War trilogy. The sketch maps throughout are most useful in following the action.

Jeff Shaara writes so well that the book flows. I couldn't put it down. His knowledge of the characters is amazing and he makes me want to know more about the Civil War.
He really makes the stories come to life. He has quickly become one of my favorite authors.

Jeff Shaara manages to put his finger directly on the dilemma that is presented to the commanders of both sides at all levels: how to honorably end a war with much less aggressive furor than the start. Nothing much has changed since the Civil War except the weapons' lethality.

Being that we are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War this historical fiction takes you to the action, and allows you to read what some of the movers and shakers were really like. A great read
