The Angel Killer pulled me into the book immediately upon opening it and by the end of the first chapter I was hooked. With it's twists and turns the story took me on a journey through the demented mind of the Warlock. An interesting and addictive story plot has us on the edge of our seats. Immediately I ordered Andrew Mayne's other books and told my family and friends to do the same.

This is definitely one of my favorite books by Andrew Mayne. This book is a mix between a crime drama and a magic show. The plot moves quickly and I found myself trying to solve the puzzle along with the heroine. The author even reveals some of the secrets behind the magic tricks, which I enjoyed. I am assuming there will be a sequel to this, and I can't wait!

Heroines sorting through FBI puzzles have become routine reading, but not professional magicians as heroines. Reality is stretched thin, but never to the point of disbelief. The writing is fluent and literate, the background of police procedure and magical tricks is all believable.
Well written and well worth reading for those who enkoy this genre.
Gods and Generals / The Killer Angels / The Last Full Measure :: Gone For Soldiers :: A Novel of the War in the Pacific (World War II) - The Final Storm :: The Rising Tide: A Novel of World War II :: A Novel of the Civil War (Civil War Trilogy) - The Last Full Measure

Having had some experience in law enforcement, I tend to be critical on novels like this. It took a little stretch of the imagination, but not much, to believe what and how the "bad guy" did it. However, the specifics of the plot were new and fresh. Liked the characters. I will buy other books from this author.

I thought mr. Mayne couldn't possibly write another book that would keep me up all night reading ( public enemy zero was the first story I read by mayne). I love everything he has written so far, but I must say that angel killer just won't let me go. I want to know more, want the story to continue. I would have paid the average hardcover price for this and been terribly satisfied. For 99 cents, come on please buy it so Andrew is encouraged to write more.

This book was surprisingly good. I had my doubts when I purchased this one, the description really does not do it good. I read 4 - 5 books a week, mostly thrillers and mysterys so I figured if it was horrible I would move on to the next one. Gets your mind working from the beginning. I would recommend this one to anyone.

Excellent and fun to read. A refreshing new heroine and a different genre. The background gives interesting insight into the world of magic, obviously written by someone with extensive knowledge and experience. I'll get the 2nd book for X-mas and hope there are more to follow.

I love the perspective of the main character. The way a magician would think about each scenario is fascinating, and a fun to read. On top of that the prose is excellent and its just a good read. I picked it up this weekend, and I'll definitely finish tonight (monday).

I really thought this book wasn't too exciting. I read a lot of mystery/thrillers and this one just isn't in the same category as Coben, Reichs, Paterson, etc., etc. I especially did not like that we never really found out more about why the killer did what he did.

This book grabbed me from the very start. I wasn't sure how believabe having a FBI agent as a former magician would be, but it really worked for me. The twists, turns and fast pace reminded me of one of my favorite authors, Jeffrey Deaver. The way the book ended I am hoping for a sequel.

Could not stop and put it down. Drank numerous cups of Cuban coffee to stay awake. What a fabulous book with so many twists. I am going to check now to find if there are other Jessica Blackwood books. God I hope so.

Lots of authors can create decent plot lines, but few can combine a really interesting set up, plot, tension, and then toss in a bunch of super memorable characters.

I love Jessica Blackwood - what a great combo of a hardcore FBI agent and expert in FBI investigative arts, but comes from a family background in stage magic. And I loved Dr. Aisles, who is the real egg head of the team. Throw in a great murderous villain - the aptly named Warlock - and you have a great and satisfying mix of police procedural with overtones of magic and the occult. A really fun page turner.

This book is a suspenseful, serial killer drama, with an exceptional plot. The concepts within the plot were so unique, I simply could not put it down. One of the concepts was based on historical facts. I was intrigued enough to research the topic, and purchase another book on the real event. My only minor criticism is that I felt it ended too quickly. I was not satisfied that all my questions were answered and I definitely did not want it to end!

fabulous plot.a lot of specialized knowledge went into devising it. solid writing with an intelligent, engaging central character, a fascinating secondary character and a very interesting and convoluted relationship that could be a book on its own.

Andrew Mayne manages to combine two things that I love yet thought would never meet: crime thrillers and magic. Mayne deftly takes us through his whodunit which I would rather call a "how the hell did they do it." Jessica is a fully developed character, one who has balanced her life in two male dominated professional worlds. Mayne' s story and characters are engaging and exciting, so if you're looking for a page turning story, look no further than Angel Killer.

A real page turner, I had difficulty stopping myself turning the page. I don't usually write reviews nor email the author, but this time, I actually did it because I just loved the book and wanted more! The book was so well written I could visualise the scenes in my mind. I loved the 'magic touch', I have never read a crime thriller quite like that.
The author has been short-changed with this book, only costing 0.99 cents. He should be paid more!

Loved reading this book. Mr. Mayne did a great job with pulling me into his story. Much through this book, I felt as though I was actually there w/Jessica & the FBI. However, even though I fully enjoyed reading this book, I did not like the ending - which is why I gave it just 4stars. It didn't tell what happened to Jessica nor Damon at the end & that makes a terrible ending....unless there's going to be a sequence coming out?????

I could not put the book down! Something exciting happens on nearly every page. Extremely fast paced. Make sure you have a few hours free before you start to read this book. It has been a long time since I read a book that kept me so engrossed for so long!

Really liked the " non standard" serial killer setting and the use of some unusual settings and deeds. Book had a good flow to it and keeps you interested. Ending was not as expected, and I would have preferred a different one, but still delivers.

Definitely worth the price and time.

This could have been a very fine puzzle/suspense novel. The idea of a magician/FBI agent offers lots of scope for glitzy and original ideas, and the magician talk is interesting. But the ending falls apart. Why was the heroine almost dumped into a volcano? It doesn't fit the murderer's format. Why her? Who was he and what was he about? If this mysterious Damian (?sp) is so fascinating, why doesn't he have motives or a significant role? The whole thing dissolves at what should be the climax. Also, some of the effects seem a little ridiculous. Imagine poking hundreds and hundreds of feathers into a dead body just to fake an angel!

Another great book from Andrew Mayne! Thankfully it is a quick read because once you get sucked in, it is hard to put it down! Thanks Andrew Mayne, after reading several of your books/audiobooks you may be my new favorite author.

Fast moving...held my interest...I liked the magician stories in it...the author obviously knows alot about magic tricks. It qualifies as a "page turner'. Why did it end before the story was resolved?

This book got me hooked throughout the read. I loved the storyline, the suspense created all the way not forgetting the strong character of Agent Blackwood. There was nothing that was not likable although i thought the end could have been more complete. I look forward to reading the Name of the Devil in the near future.
