Loved it!

Great compelling story with believable characters. I felt the end was rushed, and a direction not supported enough by the story but it was understandable, and I'm excited to read the next.

I really enjoyed this book I love reading sci-fi books but one of the problems is they seem to always have the same thing and I enjoyed this book a lot because it was from a totally different view than anything else I've read

I read a lot of sci-fi on Kindle and picked this one up on a whim after reading a few other reviews. I didn't care for the blurb and feel that the second part of the title "Transport: Death Mission" is sensationalist at best and off-putting at worst. I'm glad I bought and read it, in spite of the title, as it was a great read. A good story, believable characters and while it is a complete story, could easily become a series.

I was less angry about this book after learning that the author is German and (I assume) the book was originally written in his native language and then translated. Hopefully that explains the horrible dialogue and poor editing. The premise, while hardly original, is good enough for a fresh look but that's about the extent of worked for me while reading this. The characters are two-dimensional, and almost all are pulled from the standard tropes of action-adventure. There is only one woman, you know she's going to be hot, right? The good guy, even though he was on death row, once you finally learn of his crime, you can understand his motivations, if not forgive him. The bad guy dies in a way that makes you even feel for him, how original.

Don't even get me started on the use of exclamation points in odd places!

This is the first book review I've done in a while if ever, I felt like the overwhelming positive reviews was one of the reasons I purchased this book, so I wanted to attempt to save some of you your money, or at least sleep better knowing I tried. And to think, there are two sequels coming...

Wow! This was hard to figure out at first (the characters in the book had a hard time too LOL). If you had to choose between a top secret mission and death row, would you take the mission? For all of the criminals slated for death (in this era, any crime causing death is punishable by death within 3 months). Once you found out what the mission was, it was too late to back out. Scarey.

You know, this was not the best book I've ever read but not every book has to be that. It was a well written book that easily held my interest and kept me reading a little later in the night than I should have. The story was NOT predictable. Never saw a lot of the twists and turn the story took and I never even came close to guessing the ending. The characters were well developed and I had no trouble picking out the good guys and the bad guys. As with real life, the life of each of the characters had taken their own path, complete with ups and downs. I will definitely be reading more by this author and I highly recommend it.

The main theme of the book is the portal allowing the instantaneous transport to unknown planets. This idea is not very original and may be compared to “Stargate” except there is really not much interesting to be found in the most of the destinations. This story focuses more on the people than on the alien planets. Since the transfer itself is extremely dangerous the death row convicts are used for trials. Some of them turn out to be reasonable and likable people. There is a briefly sketched picture of the future society in which death penalty became a common punishment but most action concentrates on the attempts to understand and to control transfers. Writing is very simple, characters are not complicated, dialogs are not too great but plot moves well and it is an easy read. I liked the ending.

Wow, really neat idea for a good sci-fi novel. Unfortunately, the characters are one dimensional caricatures of real people and the world building was rather poor. I actually enjoyed the read because I was curious where the author was going with the story. I just had to endure a plot and cast of characters that read like a bad B movie.

It started off good and was a good read until the end, then it sucked! Could not believe the military hush hush establishment would have such lax security. The military is all about planning and security and the ending of this book made it look like mall cops were on duty.....no way! Ruined the book for me.

I began reading Transport: Death Mission and honestly couldn't put it down! Intriguing storyline and likeable characters made the entire book enjoyable and interesting from cover to cover!
I hope the other books in the series are soon translated to English because I am ready for more!!

Transport is an interesting take on space exploration. The basic plot line of using death row prisoners as canaries in the proverbial gold mine via inexplicably instantaneous alien transport technology to other solar systems is quite engaging, and the big reveal by the protagonist unraveling a seeming death sentence for the inmates was gripping. As other reviewers have pointed out, certain elements by the European author simply rang false. A U.S. president elected to put anyone suspected of murder on death row? Even the current clown caucus administration is not that bloodthirsty, at least not yet. And major characters saying that they shamefully deserve to be punished for the heat-of-the-moment murders they committed, sentenced by an unjust administration? Did not work for me. Next time the author writes a novel set in the U.S., do more cultural homework.

The book started out similar to the Dirty Dozen movie, but that's all, a new surprise at every turn. A very comfortable, fresh and fun read.
Can't wait for the Flood & Zone books to be released!

This book is mildly interesting. The transport aspect is fresh, but the basis of death row cons taking on a low survival rate mission is not very original (neither are their results). Although the writers makes some effort at developing the characters in general, the main character receives little more development than most others, and after a while the events become too predictable. It's OK, but compelling; seems like a short story format.

Quite plausible as scifi should be, good story. The only glitch as I see it is the rush to explain and simplify. The solution could have taken a chapter to work out scientifically, but the extremely complex device (incorrectly called a machine) suddenly blurted out all the answers in one page, like Mr. Peterson suddenly realized he was late for dinner. Good effort nonetheless, keep at it and bring a samrich.

I liked this book enough to read it in one sitting. The story has some similarities with the "Stargate" universe, but is different enough to go in other directions.

I only have a few minor criticisms. The characters were pretty well defined, but the chemistry between them needed a little more work. I never really felt like the conversations were natural. They just seemed like the least developed part of the story.

That being said, I would like to read a sequel if the author ever writes one. It's an interesting world and there is lots of potential.

This book was fast paced with lots of creative details. The story had a pretty good arc with the characters being in danger. The characters are given understandable back stories. The device travel are colorful. The ending was a Stephen King Ending: Everything is progressing well, 90% is reached, new details are suddenly developed, something happens and the story is ended.

I gave 4 stars instead of five only due to essentially making Gilbert a mad scientist at the end, I'm a scientist so I'm a little sensitive...on the other hand great story line and kept me reading. Not corny in any way. I hope we discover whether on our own or with help some type of transporting system...I wish in my lifetime, probably not gonna happen?..but dreams have turned into relativity, just need time, patience and wisdom

In any science fiction book, Suspension of Disbelief is necessary. It doesn't have to be completely locked down, but at least not bad.

The author of this book blew it in the Suspension of Disbelief department by not learning about American politics and its judicial system. In America, most felony crimes are adjudicated in state courts, not federal. Nor can the federal government mandate what sentences state courts levy. Yet the author's main premise for getting the characters to where they were in the story and how they reacted throughout depended upon the exact opposite.

And when someone is pardoned, they are pardoned. They then can't get reduced sentences because they their crime was wiped clean. The author messed up on that, too.

So Author sets it up so that only one other Race in the entire milky way galaxy exists and that we discovered their legacy after scientists inadvertantly destroy thier home planet. After figuring out Star Gate teleportatiin devices are a way for the military to spread out amongst the stars, the author decided to end Star Gate for humans by directing eco terrorists to destroy all gates in our solar system. Thanks for the horrible ending Mr. PETERSON! IT SUCKED.

It's weird writing a review for a book that I didn't finish, but here it is - I could not force myself to keep reading after about 25% of the way through. There wasn't anything exciting or original about the story, and I did feel any connection to any of the characters. Very disappointing.

Was almost painful to read. The ending was....bleh, the writing (to include grammatical, spelling, and quotation errors) was borderline okay, and the depiction of the military and US government was actually painful, and highly implausible (oh, and also contradictory).

For example (spolierish), the setting is near future, with a new president, who somehow, despite protests and fights from congress, managed to push through legislation that made every murder AND manslaughter punishable by the death penalty, with a fast track to death row and execution. I mentioned manslaughter because that's a direct quote from the book. The contradictory part comes from the main character, who is sentenced to death for killing the drunk driver who killed his wife and daughter....but the drunk driver was let off (prior to his death, of course). Wait, I thought every manslaughter was punished with the death penalty... Anyways, this is all in attempt to make the main character (and a number of other characters on death row, as well) into a sympathetic person.

The ending....oh god, the ending. Sure, betray the entire human race. Without going into spoilers, it's not only implausible (the completely lax military security as another reviewer alluded to), but also the level (or lack) of oversight on the government personnel investigating an ALIEN artifact. Let's face it, if an alien artifact were found anywhere on Earth, the level of security and oversight over any government investigating it would be insane.

This book is a poor man's (very poor, destitute, on Skid Row, with no money at all) Stargate. Do not recommend, the only reason I went with 2 stars instead of one is that the premise is interesting.

This novel is essentially "Stargate" meets the "Dirty Dozen" with a touch of "The A-Team" thrown in for leavening; doing a disservice to all three. At times the author tries to wax philosophical, but the combined weight of the cliches and stock characters he has amassed to move his story along ensures that he is unsuccessful. As the novel mercifully coughs and wheezes to a perfunctory and ever so predictable conclusion, we find ourselves not caring about any of the characters that the writer created (or perhaps more accurately, lifted, like so many worn out action figures from a child's toy box.) At best, this is a book to savor if you find yourself trapped on a plane and you have exhausted the pleasures that can be derived from repeatedly reading the emergency instructions on the back of the seat in front of you. You have been warned.

what a breath of fresh air .. not your usual " oh mankind is being saved by some guys that somehow got super human powers or brains fighting the technology advanced nasty mean aliens." Nope this is a set of books that let you get into very real characters who are thrown into situations way beyond normal and see how they react and work with out being superhuman. There is fear, love, loss and just plain living. It is easy to imagine that you might end up in a somewhat similar situation and try to figure out what you would do about such things. All in all this is real science fiction with some mostly real science to back it up .. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of good action and lots of good alien stuff .. but the humans and their trials are the center .. Keep on writing stuff like this and I will keep being a fan ..

Transport offers a very unique storyline. Sadly, it's way to determine what's going to happen to whom quickly in the novel. Also, while I'm certainly no professional writer, these characters are hardly fleshed out. They are predictable and two-dimensional. Even the dialog is very basic.

Back to the good: The story is unique. Had this been covered by another author it's hard telling how it would have played out. I believe it would have been much better. This is quick to read. Chapters are short nnd devoted primarily to one specific subject, whether that be person, location or idea.

Transport is an interesting story. It takes the Star Gate concept and offers a fresh spin. 10 prisoners on death row are chosen to serve as guinea pigs for the federal government. Their mission? To go through the alien gate and discover what's on the other side. Of course, there's no guarantee that the other side will be safe for humans and thus, it has become a game of roulette for the 10 prisoners.

The story turns predictable once a certain breakthrough occurs and the guillotine is no longer hanging down the necks of the survivors. The author takes the story in a direction that I think was made for the sake of expediency to stop the book somewhere and leave room for a sequel. In all honesty, I think Transport would have been better as a 400-500 page one-shot book instead.

First off, I was shocked to find this was a English translation from a German book and writer. The translation was flawless as far as I could tell.
After going on a sf book binge this summer looking for new authors, I have found a mixed bag when it comes to styles, ease of reading, intriguing sf concepts, etc.. Peterson' s writing style and character development is sooo much better than most I have recently read. Now throw in a simple but intriguing premise where the story never seems to lag and you have a winner in my opinion.
Glad to see there are future installments coming out soon! Looking forward to them.

Added to a plain writing style, although I have read much worse, make for a writer that should continue to try. But to say you could breathe in a 3/4 atmospheric pressure with only 15% oxygen is just offensive, that puts the partial pressure of oxygen well below survivable. A simple internet search would have fixed this error.

Kind of a stripped down version of Stargate. Especially towards the end of the book it felt like there was a lot of detail missing. The combat scenes were short, and consisted of little more than a basic scene outline. Meh.

This is an okay quick read if you don't care whether the story line is plausible, or whether there's any semblance of actual science in the fiction. In the end its just another parable about how a few people (convicted murderers no less) recognize that the human race is heading self-destruction and decide to try to do something about it.

I don't get the positive reviews! I just don't! Can you tell I'm trying to make a point! Because this whole piece of trash is filled with them! Seriously! I'm not allowed to infer anything on my own! Everyone is shouting all the time! Even when they are just thinking!

Sorry, this book is incredibly amateurish, the dialog sounds like teenagers and the action is so derivative that nothing is original. If you're used to Scifi, this is going to truly disappoint. Don't waste your time.

The characters were developed well enough and likable. I appreciated the thought put into the science, particularly the mapping via pulsars.
The overall pace of the story felt rushed; I felt like the friendships and relationships developed a little too quickly. But overall I feel this was a worthy read. I appreciate the conclusion and wisdom that went into it.

I enjoyed this story. Some Stargateish themes but with a different take. There are places where an absence of proof reading shows. Not sure why it seems so hard to proof read a story before uploading it, common to many stories on the store. None the less I am reading the entire series.

I have never read this author before, and frankly, wasn't expecting too much. I was very pleasantly surprised! The science was good, the characters believable, and the plot moved forward inexorably. As others have said, I found it hard to put down; and now am sad I am finished!

How does one choose explorers when they only have a 50/50 chance to survive? And when finding the answer to explore the universe, one finds they could destroy the Earth. What would you do? This is a fun read, and also a bit like Forbidden Planet a civilization builds great technology only to destroy themselves.

Excellent, and an easy read, a lot of satisfying science, and several clever turns. It's self-published and there are a bunch of typeographical errors and a couple of misworded ideas or mistructured sentences, and the paper and typeface are unrefined, but the story was totally worth the read.

Very good imagination; a little mindful of a portal once found on Indian tribal lands, but with a different twist that was really intriguing. WARNING: INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE FOR ANYONE UNDER 18. This book is not for young people. I'm fine with a few "mild" curse words here and there (rhymes with "hit" or "sam")... but this book GOES WAY BEYOND what is appropriate for anyone under 18, and even over 18 if you have any standards of common decency. Bought this for my 13 year old middle schooler and we couldn't get past the first 30 pages without having to get a new book due to the filthy language and inappropriate demeaning sexual remarks...despite the childish looking cover! You have been warned.
