The honest and frank style makes for a wild ride. What young boy wouldn't trade their pedestrian life to ride into manhood with this adventure? This is glimpse into the desperate times at the end of the plains struggle as the hide men and their guns forced horse culture of the plains to the reservation, broken, starving, but defiant.

A very good book. The places and events hold true to historical accounts of the hill country of Texas and the high plains area. Gives a very good account of the hardships endured by the settlers and the various tribes that roamed the area.

A very insightful book taking the reader back to the early period of Texas history. I wanted to read this book because my grandfather, Earnest Kothmann, a cousin of Hermann Lehmann, would often talk about this story when I was very young.

I think he recited these events as he recalled them. It was interesting to read his story from a different perspective than what I was taught when I was younger. There is still so much history out there to relearn.

I bought this book hoping to read about the Indian Cricket Team, but I soon found that it was about Feather Indians, not Spot Indians. Anyway, I started reading and found it a good story, even though there was no cricket involved.
