More valuable than other collections of diet recipes or methods, Penn gives you the insights to navigate past peer pressure and our own preconceived notions of status-quo diet and nutrition to make substantial, effective weight loss that (like Penn) has staying power.

Penn is the penultimate salesman. Too modest, too truthful. I take the bait, and I am gleefully along for the ride. I tried the potato thing, but kept adding canned tomatoes. Then I read the can. Oh well.

Interesting to read about Penn's life's exploits, but not too much content about how the uncoventional diet would or could possibly work for others. Would have liked to have seen more content on the diet itself.

The writing is great, the story is completely compelling. I am thinking about it days after finishing it, and recommend it to anyone interested in resetting those tastebuds from the SAD (standard American diet) filled with salt, oil and sugar!

Half-way through the book I decided to start down the path of becoming a Cro-nut... So far, 10 days and 26 lbs later (slow reader) I am believing more and more that I can return to a healthier me that I haven't know for a few years. Thank you.

I love to read anything Penn writes. This book takes you on his weight loss journey all the way. A touching story of a father, husband, and entertainer sprinkled with a story about losing weight and potatoes.

I found this book while looking for information from Ray Cronise, who coached Penn Jillette to his 100 lb weight loss. I'm not exaggerating when I say this book changed my entire perspective on fat loss. I put the strategies into practice and lost 10 lbs in one week (I only had 15 to lose). I was already a plant-based cook and fan of Joel Fuhrman's Nutritarian philosophy, but this book brought that philosophy to life.
Presto! isn't for those who are easily offended by f-bombs or independent thinking. Penn Jillette is a storyteller: his stories go off on tangents, circle through seemingly unrelated topics, and then come back around to his point. I found his style especially entertaining at the beginning, then I found myself skipping some of the stories to move on to the weight loss aspects.
Highly recommended!

If you have been following Penn Jillette's weight loss and trying to figure out how he did it. Just buy the book. While he explains that he was following a modified Joel Fuhrman "diet" (more like a way of life), Penn's book is wonderful for all the other aspects of how to do it - the emotional, the practical, the funny, and the social pitfalls. The book is a really amusing and insightful masterclass on the mental processes of him transforming himself from fat to thin. If you have already lost weight on this method, Penn's book will kindly reinforce and remind what you need to keep healthy. Also, there are many useful recipes offered up. His book answered a lot of my questions, but most of all, I loved the personal story he lays before us. It reminds me of the story about the man who is stuck in a ditch and can't get out, and no one seems to know how to help - finally a friend comes, jumps down there with him and says...."I've been there...and I know the way out."

Great read! So real and true coming from Penn Jilette. Straight and honest. This book is a must read. Not just for diet but his sense of humor and his stories are great. He says he doesnt want to inspire you, but he does.

I liked Penn from The Celebrity Apprentice and was curious to see how he conquered his weight battle and got his hypertension under control. What I got was a vulgar book and hard-to-follow "schtick-y" attempt at humor throughout. At no point does he try and communicate on a genuinely human level, all he wants to do is hit us over the head with his personality repeatedly. I'm a knuckle-head guy who likes to joke around but you need to re-examine paragraphs just to really comprehend what the hell he's talking about. Not an easy read at all. I ready a few chapters and abandoned ship. I didn't get to even fully appreciate the diet he was on.

Penn weaves his weight loss story throughout funny personal stories and connects them in wacky ways
You'll be shocked by how much you'll learn about diet. Penn and CrayRay may have changed diet forever... It would not shock me of this book was ground zero for a diet revolution . No kidding
