Always a strong character with an indomitable spirit and unselfish heroism, the writer makes him almost too good to be true. Yet, the author writes with a realism based on knowledge that makes me proud of the men and women who live in the real world of intelligence and danger.

Move over Clancy, watch out Vince Flynn. There's a new force in the game. Brad Thor is really turning out some great page turners. Though not yet as polished as Clancy in his prime, Thor's plots are as topical as todays headlines, the action never ending and the stories have more twists than a bushel of pretzels. I read my first Thor novel a year or so and thought it pretty good. I finished "The Lions of Lucerne" about a month ago and immediately ordered 4 more from the store. I read them in about a week!! I'm hooked. Go Scot Harvath! Thor's a former SEAL. Kind of nice to know that there's more to these patriotic warriors than incredible toughness. This one can write!!

Again Scott has to save the country from Russia. If he fails, the president has to admit defeat and go before the country and admit he has failed and the country has to step off the world stage. Otherwise keep it nose out of everyone else's business.

This is my second Brad Thor novel with Scot Havrath. I started reading the Havrath series because I have read every Jack Reacher and Mitch Rapp books and needed something similar.
These are Brad Thor's earlier novels so I can only assume his writing has gotten much better. I feel these novels, State of the Union in particular, clearly reflect a novice coming into his own.
With that said the Scot Havrath novels have been suspenseful and exciting. The plots are unique with a common theme. The book is well written but it's missing that "extra something" that Reacher and Rapp have. I can't seem to connect fully with the main character like I do with Reacher and Rapp. I am hoping that this series grows more as his writing is getting to the veteran stage. I will continue reading the Havrath novels unless they get too unbelievable, which is something that occurs often in these books. (For example, Havrath seems to always shoot the bad guys exactly in a kill spot no matter what physical extremity he's engaged in.)
Overall, it's worth the price if you enjoy series like Reacher and Rapp. Again, I will continue to read this series in hopes that it becomes better.

This third book in the Scott Horvarth series kept me interested. Although at times I felt it jumped a bit and left out some significant details of what had occurred, especially in the concluding chapters. I started reading this series upon completing the Vince Flynn series of agent Mitch Rapp -- feels like Horvath is a Rapp wannabee who is not quite there yet. But am intrigued and will keep on reading.

Solid outing. His characters are sometimes cardboard, but on the whole the stories suspend your disbelief enough to enjoy. I have read three Thor books (reading them in order) and have enjoyed the outings.

I've read several Brad Thor thriller novels and this is not only one of his best, but in a back handed way, timely.
It comes at a time when a hard look at Russia in needed. And a reminder of what was the cold war.

I've read all the Jack Ryans, Jack Reachers, Gabriel Allons, John Rains, Mitch Rapps, Jon Bennetts, Pike Logans..... and I'm always looking for another character that can complete. Hello Scot Harvaths!

Very much enjoying this writer. I love political thrillers based in DC having lived there almost 25 years. My only criticism is that the books seem to be written for the big screen..... Waiting to learn who will play Scot.

Starts slow like many in the series, but continually gains momentum until the reader can't put the book down. Continues the saga of Scot Harvard, but still can be understood as a stand alone novel. Thor does a great job of ensuring that readers recall past characters which definitely helps with putting to rest past characters or bringing them into the present story.
