I seriously can't get enough of Duvall's Immortal Guardians or Gifted Ones. It's always exciting when Seth is in the story, but I almost hope she never fully tells his story because it's better to keep him mysterious (although he is biblically old, super tall and has wings.) I disagree with the reviews that didn't think this progressed the storyline. I think it was important to tell Beth and Robert's story, and set the foundation for future stories and characters in this series. Can't wait for more Immortal Guardians especially with Seth, Zach, and the conflict with the mysterious Others. Keep the stories coming!!

If you like time travel romance, you should definitely read this. It's so different than all the rest out there! I enjoyed it so much, I want to read book 1 in this series (straight up medieval romance) and book 2 of the Guardian series which has a character from this book!

Another excellent book by Dianne Duvall. I have to say that I love this series as much as the Immortal Guardians. It is great to finally read Robert and Bethany's tale, and to see a young Marcus. I really hope the Gifted Ones series continues.

I loved this story! I love learning about Beth after learning about her in Marcus' book! It was so cool to see him as he was and see the love of Beth and Robert. I laughed and cried during this story. I loved the tie in of Seth and Marcus yet it can still be a read alone

Disappointed. This story was not believable. Another story of modern strong woman who was totally out of character once back in time. Medieval guy totalky calm and accepting? No, didnt buy it. Couldnt get past half way through book.

I was so disappointed with this book. While the first one was amazingly written, this book was so boring and repetitive I couldn't finish it. I don't give a lot of bad reviews but this one was a bummer. ?

(RabidReads.com)4.5/5 stars rounded up. Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians series is on my list of favorite paranormal romance/urban fantasy series. When I eventually decided to read her historical paranormal romances, I pretty much kicked myself for not reading them as soon as they came out. They are every bit as good as her Immortal Guardians, and that is saying something! I read the first one, A Sorceress of his Own, and decided to listen to this one instead. Good decision!
Bethanny Bennett is what the author terms as a modern day bounty hunter, along with her beloved brother. They end up in a shoot out with a couple of bail jumpers that have holed up in the middle of nowhere, Texas. After seeing her brother get shot, she is also shot, more than once. She should be dead, but after seeing a strange man lean over her right before she passes out, she wakes up in a different time. An ancient time of castles and moats and sword fights. Not only does she wake up, her wounds have all been healed although she still looks like she’s been in a blood bath. She is found by Sir Robert, Earl of Fosterly, and his men. She decides that they must be a reenactment group of some sort. But then why is the weather completely different, and where did her brother go, along with the bail jumpers? When she finally realizes that she is back in time, she pretty much has a private meltdown. I think that is what most people would do and I don’t like time travel romances where the main character is okay with it. What she doesn’t do is admit to the Earl when and where she is from. At least not right away.
Sir Robert was first introduced in the previous story and was a favorite character of mine from that book. He’s honorable as the day is long, treats his people well, and is really handsome. Beth comes into his world and pretty much turns it upside down. She’s a beauty, but would rather learn to sword fight than stitch a quilt. Or whatever women sewed back then. It’s not long before she has Robert and all his people eating out of her hand. She also has men hunting the countryside for her brother. Another character that shows up is Seth from the Immortal Guardians series. He was briefly in the previous book, but has a much bigger, but still peripheral role in this installment.
There is of course a lot more going on than what I have mentioned. This is both a good romance between characters that I loved, and the story of Beth learning to live without her modern day conveniences, as well as her brother. There is also plenty of intrigue and real sword fighting to fit the time period. Things back then were not always tranquil and fighting was pretty common between different factions.
Narration? I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Kirsten Potter narrate. She kept me entertained and never pulled me out of the story due to a discordant accent or voice. I would be more than happy to listen to other books that she has narrated and highly recommend her.
This was well written, as is everything Ms. Duvall writes and I enjoyed the whole book, even a bit more than the first book. And the first book was good! Maybe listening made it better for me, although I am not sure. I highly recommend this book to adult readers of paranormal romance or historical romance. It’s time travel, but it also has some special abilities that are involved as well. Fantastic read!

Bethany's day is about to get a whole lot more complicated. After a shoot-out alongside her fellow bounty hunting brother leaves Beth near the edge of death, she wakes to find her injuries healed. But that's not all. She doesn't recognize her surroundings, her brother is missing, and there are four medievally-garbed men on horseback giving her strange looks as she has a melt down in the forest.
Robert has never seen anything like the woman before him. She's dressed in strange clothes, carrying odd items, and speaking English with a foreign accent. She is also desperately seeking some person named "Josh" and continues to refer to him and his men as "reenactment members". Whatever those are... Beth is a mystery that Robert is determined to unravel.
But Beth isn't sure what she should believe since nothing in this new place makes sense. The only instinct she has is to trust Robert, the man who causes her skin to tingle at his touch. And so she clings to him as they travel back to his castle, just another thing that she can't seem to believe is real. Along with the peasants and servants and horse-drawn carts. It's so realistic that Beth is sure she's going mad or being tricked.
When she finally starts to accept the possibility that she's gone back in time, new troubles arise. Robert's enemy and jealous lovers are just a few of the obstacles standing between our couple and their happy ending. Not to mention the potential that Beth's time in the past may not be permanent.
I loved this book! It had pretty much all of my favorite things--medieval times, a kick-ass heroine, a protective hero, magic, and a dash of mayhem. The plot was steadily filled with one twist after another but never felt as if it were too busy. There was plenty of downtime in which to get to know our characters. And there were several of them.
Bethany was a courageous and quick-witted woman who didn't have much of a filter on her mouth. It was amusing to see the reactions of the people around her when she would spout off things they had absolutely no idea about. It took her a while to come to terms with her situation but her budding relationship with Robert was a delight to witness.
Robert was another highlight of the story. He was kind, loyal, and inquisitive. I was surprised by how easily he accepted Beth's odd behavior but I also loved his dedication to her. His men brought a lot of humor to the book, as well. I can't count the number of times I laughed at one of the knights, especially as they marveled over Beth's futuristic items. Hilarious.
In closing...
A fun time-traveling romp in the medieval hay! Five suns!

Dianne Duvall takes us on a journey into the past unparalleled by even your local Renaissance Faire. While Beth might lack the magical abilities that we saw in Alyssa in A Sorceress of His Own, there is nothing more entertaining then watching this modern woman working her own magic in this male dominated world of the thirteenth century.
For those who are also fans of Dianne’s Immortal Guardian series, this story was a long time coming. When we first met Marcus Grayden in Night Reigns, in 2011, Marcus was still emotionally scarred 800 years later over the fact that as a young squire, he had fallen in love with his knight’s wife, a woman who had come from the future, and more particularly, a woman who he had made sure was at the exact right place at the exact right time so that she could be sent into the past. Although he mourned his unrequited love for centuries, Marcus loved both Lord Robert and Bethany and never made his feelings known.
For those of us who follow both series, how excited are we to finally get Robert, Bethany and Marcus’s background story.
Bethany is a bounty hunter and she goes with her brother, Josh, into the woods of Texas on a long-shot tip to find two wanted killers. The tips pays off but Beth and Josh do not exactly take these guys by surprise and a shoot out leaves the killers dead and Beth and her brother in bad shape. As Beth loses consciousness, she isn’t certain she is going to wake up again.
But she does awaken, completely healed and in a section of forest which is more lush and green than the one she passed out in. What is missing is the cabin, the killers and more importantly, her injured brother. Beth frantically searches the woods, fearing Josh will bleed out from his injuries before she can find him. She then comes upon four men on horseback dressed in typical knight garb of chainmail. She tries to get their help, but they refuse to speak modern English and are only speaking Middle English. Lucky for Beth, her mother was a history professor and taught her and her brother how to communicate in Middle English. She believes they are simply a very obsessive reenactment group.
Lord Robert, the Earl of Fosterly, and his knights have been searching the forest for marauders who have been preying on his people. They believe these bandits attacked Beth and her brother and offer to help her search. The longer they are with Beth, the more they note that more than just her speech is odd and they start to believe she might be a little mad. They are fascinated by her and with all of the odd objects she has with her.
Both groups know that something is not quite right, but it is once they arrive at the castle that Beth realizes just how bad the situation is for her. She knows that time travel just isn’t possible, but there it no doubt when she sees the brand new castle and village full of people, all dressed the same and speaking Middle English, that something happened to her. There is no group that dedicated to their craft they would live like they actually are in the thirteenth century. There is also the fact that she hasn’t seen one thing that points to the modern world.
This is a standard fish-out-of-water story, but the fun here is less watching Beth learn how to navigate life in the thirteen century, but watching everyone’s reaction to this woman who is more than just unconventional. She is more openly affectionate than is acceptable. She speaks oddly and is very vivacious. She has a bizarre collection of items that are fascinating. She will also be bringing a little women’s lib to Fosterly a few centuries early.
Overall, this was an entertaining and simply fun story with a sweet romance.

Rendezvous with Yesterday was such a joy on audio. Kirsten Potter narrated, and she nailed Bethany’s confusion, the chemistry that develops between her and Robert as well as his men’s shock and awe at this odd little woman! I laughed so hard at times; I had tears streaming down my cheeks. Just imagine a gun-wielding modern woman clad in jeans who is shocked at discovering she is in a medieval keep. It was a difficult transition, and we shared in her vulnerability.
The chemistry and banter between Bethany and Robert was perhaps my favorite part of the story. The romance was slow-building, and Duvall delivered hilarious moments that turned heated making me grin in merriment. The romance had sweet and touching moments that pulled at my heartstrings. Since Bethany time traveled, we weren’t all that certain if she would pop back or perhaps choose to go home. These elements added a little sadness and tension, but leave it to Duvall to deliver an ending that satisfied.
We learned some interesting things in Rendezvous with Yesterday, and boy am I eager to find out more! While this is part of a series, I see no reason why anyone cannot grab their earbuds and listen. Dianne Duvall is a master storyteller and does an excellent job of presenting the overall arc while giving each book a full romance.

Five Amazing Stars
I was absolutely thrilled to finally receive the second most amazing book from the sensational series, The Gifted Ones. From my all time favourite author, Dianne Duval. I just love another exquisite time travel journey. I'm now ready for another exciting classic romantic adventure!!
When Bethany Bennett was aimlessly going through their multiple CD's hoping they could sell enough of them so they could make some more money. Between the group of them they might be able to afford something much better. Josh was just helping her as it was just such a hot day in Texas.
Although the protective clothes they both were wearing made them sweat profusely as they both drove away. This group were forced to deal with the evil of this world and to protect others. Such an exciting and a amazing book to read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this most brilliant book. I just could put it down once. I was so completely obsessed with its romance. Just so captivating and such marvellous series as well!!!
* I recommend this book to everyone!!

In closing...
A fun time-traveling romp in the medieval hay! Five suns!

His men brought a lot of humor to the book, as well. I can't count the number of times I laughed at one of the knights, especially as they marveled over Beth's futuristic items. Hilarious.

Quite a disappointment. So much of it seemed illogical to me. I've loved Dianne Duvall's Immortal Guardians series, and enjoyed A Sorceress of His Own (The Gifted Ones) (Volume 1). But this one dragged on with predictable plot turns. I couldn't wait for Beth to get over it and know when/where she was. I didn't understand how she could take 21st century things with her to the past. (Seth is much more interesting in the Immortal Guardians books.) But, I did get interested in Marcus, and hope that his story is told at some point.
