This has to be the best translation of this book out there. It reads exquisitely and the kindle version is particularly well optimized. Definitely worth the money, especially when compared to the free versions floating around on the store. Just do it and you'll enjoy it even more!

This review is for the Kindle edition ASIN: B002RI9KL8. Don't get any other Kindle edition, even though they might be cheaper. This is complete and unabridged and with a superb modern translation by Robyn Buss.

Hands down the greatest adventure you'll ever experience. Ride along with the Count of Monte Cristo as he delivers vengeance the likes unseen since the Old Testament. It's been weeks, and I'm still feeling the pang of missing my old friend Monte Cristo...

This is the definitive Kindle Edition (ASIN: B002RI9KL8). Translated and introduced via Robin Buss.

As a newcomer to the world of e-books and e-readers, I was very happy to discover all of the free classics available both here at the store and elsewhere (e.g., Project Gutenberg). Unfortunately in regards to translated works, not all translations are created equal and the other versions of this classic pale in comparison to this one.

One of my favourite books of all time!

A captivating story and despite the length of the novel, one whose characters you regret leaving once you reach the end. I will definitely be reading more of Dumas' work after experiencing this. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite books of all time. I bought a number of the cloth bound Penguin Classics for books I particularly love. I was disappointed that the price sticker on the back cover pulled up some of the red printed ink of the design and marred the back cover. This is not a first edition, obviously, so it's not that big a deal, really. However, if you are going to buy a cloth bound Penguin Classics I imagine it's because, like me, this is a book you really love, so you don't want it marred. But I'm not going to reduce the number of stars for it.

Such a great story, well worth the time 'investment' to read a longer classic. It's such a brilliantly written tale, and the themes are still fresh and modern. Warning: you may need to lock yourself away in a room to devour this book without interruption!

I highly recommend reading the unabridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo. If you pick the abridged, much shorter version, then you will miss countless secrets, meticulous acts of vengeance, and a great love story. Any reader who is seeking adventure, violence, revenge, love, and glory should read this story. Yes, it is a long book, but they are pages well worth reading, each and every one.

I have read 23% of the book by now and it is very exciting. I look forward to reading further as I have time. I can understand why it is on the best 100 books list even though it is by a writer of another age. Can you suggest another classic adventure story ?

The depth of emotions and at times, the lack there of, is fantastic. Dumas masterfully describes the scenes so vividly that his words allow you to walk through the theatrical sets he details. Brilliant story of revenge and the realization that one cannot be God but in times instead of passing judgment, must show compassion.

I started reading the Gutenberg translation but then read a sample of this translation. It reads a lot easier. I accidentally bought this book through the sample I was reading. I'm not even mad. I kept it.

EPIC Loved it even though it got long at several points. Made the movie seem small but still enjoyed the movie too. 4 not 5 stars because I thought it to dramatic at points when it could have been more effectively concise. Definitely worth the read though

This was my first time buying a nice book like this one. And I wish I would have gone to a store to really inspect what I was buying. I'm not so picky with my paperback books because I know they will get used and abused. This purchase was to add to my small amount of nice books. I paid a fair amount for the book but upon receiving it I took the barcode sticker off the back (who really wants that on there?). When I took it off the glue stayed on the cover and the sticker took most of the red design off. I was careful taking it off. There were smudges all over the edges. I'm just straight up disappointed.

Dumas is a master wordsmith and storyteller. The Christian undertones as well as the contrasts between light and dark and good and evil make it a magnificent, timeless classic. Though it is 1243 pages, it is absolutely with reading.

While the Three Musketeers is better known, Dumas treatment of The Count of Monte Cristo is exceptional. His character development is excellent and puts one into the scene. An excellent read. One classic to be revisited.

Dumas' writing style has consistently captivated my attention throughout the novel that, regardless of the length, it was hard to put down. Its ending, in particular, left me gaping in awe. Absolutely a must read.

This is good, interesting reading. The story line is simple, yet complex in terms of how the characters and events unfold. It is easy to understand how this classic has flourished, over several generations of readers. The book is long: over 1200 pages in the Kindle version.

I was really excited to read The Count of Monte Cristo, I love the story, having seen one of the movies and heard about the book. The first quarter of the book is incredible, and a great read. Everything up to Carneval is spectacular. After that, it's almost like Dumas was paid by the word, and a book that began as an engrossing story of intrigue and betrayal quickly turns into a slogging chore. After 200 straight pages of French high-society gossip, descriptions of how wealthy Monte Cristo is, and Albert's fawning over Monte Cristo, I finally gave up (having read about 600 pages total). I would go for one of the abridged versions of this book because there are plenty of pages and chapters that don't contribute to the story at all.

This is my favourite book. Recently a close friend of mine was diagnosed wit a rare and aggressive cancer, He is healing slowly now after loads of chemo. I sent him the book to Australia. He received it after a few weeks. Iam hoping his wife will be able to read it to him. I do have a question however. I thought the store would have shipped the book from stocks in Aus. I think they sent it from the U>S hence the delay in him getting it. Could you please check on this for me please...thank you
