I enjoyed reading this book, like her others they are interesting in the type of jobs these people have and how they cope with life, good bad or otherwise.. Like the Glassblower series, Ileared a lot about Glassblowrwhich I never knew, and this one about Seeds. Looking forward to the sequels to this one.

Didn't like ending. A pretty well written story building to a feel good ending. The opposite occurred leaving you feeling bad for the moral of the story that good things happen to good people. The evil witch won, maybe leaving the story incomplete. Maybe there is a sequel.

I won this book on Goodreads Giveaway. I've never heard of seed merchants. This book held my interest the whole way through. It was thoroughly interesting to me the whole way through. I fell in love with the characters.

Spoiler alert. Liked learning about seed distribution back in the day. Characters okay except that the second female Seraphina, was bat s..t crazy. From the first introduction she is nuts. How is this unknown??? She lives in her own little crazy world, is basically lazy, and self centered also. Does horrendous things, how can it ever be okay?? Maybe its me but I felt she took over the book, but, titled "The Seed Woman", she should not have been focal point. But I guess crazy does that.

I have enjoyed all of Petra Durst-Benning books, think I’ve read all that have been translated. She always has unusual historical settings and interesting characters. I wasn’t as sure at start of this book that I would like this one as much, but as I read on got into it more.

Excellent reading as always Ms. DurstBenning delivered a story with strong women characters, in a field most of us don’t know and in a region of Europe beautiful and with tradition. Waiting for the next book in the seed traders saga. I had read two of her trilogy and excited about this one. A good reading with lot of history and cultural tradition. Beautiful in the English translation. Highly recommend.

Benning"s writing gives such detail about Germany and one of its oldest professions, seed trading. Her characters are realistic and live through many human experiences anyone can relate to. I loved that her novel did not end too soon and told a complete story of hardships, love and values.

This is a great story of love, sacrifice and endurance. I love the exotic, historical setting in a culture that I never knew existed and the great lengths that the heroine goes to to keep her family going. Her opposite is truly despicable but I still feel a bit sad for her in spite of her delusions. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

Good historical novel with strong women characters and a few weak ones. Quite informative about the seed trade and travel in 19th C. I found the ending a bit abrupt but did understand the possibility of allowing the reader to decide how the story should end. The missing end piece allows for a sequel which was perhaps the author's intent.

This book did not disappoint after the great Glassblowers series. I really enjoyed the glance into the seed industry of the 19th Century in Germany. As a gardener, I found that I learned something about the seed trade. The characters are well-developed, the plot ageless, and the situations realistic.

I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about the "seed" business in the 1800's. Life was challenging but rewarding ! The role of women in this book was interesting. I'm quite sure we have all known women who are just like the female characters...very relatable. A good book for a book club discussion.

This is a Good historical novel with strong female characters and a few weak ones... it’s quite informative about a very unique industry - the seed trade and travel in 19th Century. Although really this book is a journey of unexpected discovery, love, betrayal and awakening. One love, one incredible desire, that leads to an awakening... It does beg the question can betrayals be forgiven?
It’s really a 3.75 Stars from me as I found the ending a bit abrupt but did understand the possibility of allowing the reader to decide how the story should end. I will say that the missing end piece allows for a sequel which was perhaps the author's intent.

Thank you, thank you for a wonderful glimpse of life away from England & Scotland! I have been looking for different country tales to read but it has not been easy. I cannot wait to read more of your books translated to English.

My favorite character in this novel, Hannah, met Helmut Kerner on one of his seed trading journeys, and becomes pregnant by him. She travels to his home town to let him know he is going to become a father. Helmut is engaged to marry Seraphine, but takes full responsibility for impregnating Hannah and marries her instead. Seraphine recoils in horror and denial, and her obsession with Helmut is an ongoing disruption in the Kerner family, even after she marries Helmut's brother.

I found this to be a well-written book, yet it has a somber tone and a feeling of imminent tragedy that didn't let up throughout the entire book. I would have loved for events to give me a sense of more 'breathing room' as I read; but that didn't stop me from reading it all in one day. I was happy to learn there will be a follow up book, because though this one didn't end in a cliffhanger, nothing really seemed resolved at all. I will read the next book in the series, even if it is somber and tragic, so there's that ...

My thanks to NetGalley for an ARC for an honest review.

Something is wrong with someone who falls in like as a child and the love become all consuming. She will stop at nothing destroying herself and others in the process even though the man isn't in love with her. Looking forward to book two.

I enjoyed this book very much and was very disappointed to find that the second book in the series is not due out until late April. I would have waited to read the first book until both were available if I had been paying attention.

This book was terrible. While the premise had promised it was totally lost in those ridiculous plot, and annoying and boring rhetoric. It was demeaning to women and just insulting. Don't waste your time with this book.

I am really interested in this time period, the countries and the subject. However, my brain felt muddy slugging through the discontent of the two main women. Halfway through I skipped to the last chapter to see how it ended.

I’m really enjoying Petra Durst-Benning. I am learning a bit about my German roots. We take seeds for granted today, but to learn about the industry’s history makes me appreciate the spring plants.

The lives of seed traders are depicted in a realistic manner in this fiction. The characters reflect the stoicism I would expect from such lives. The romance and passion are more questionable but fun to read.

I have mixed feelings about this novel. I'd never heard of the seed merchants and found the process interesting. The characters were well-developed and village and home life provided a lively setting.

I found myself wrapped up in the characters of the story and feeling what they felt. I enjoyed the historical aspects of the story as well. It gave me a new appreciation of the struggles and hard times these people had just to survive.
