One of the most important books to be published in recent memory. Jung's seminal oeuvre is not only important as a psychology book and specifically the study of the "Archetypes"; it is a critical study in the history of Western scholarship in general. It will go down in history in the company of works by Blake and De Lubicz.

Since an early age, Carl Jung had a difficult life. As a child, he had strange dreams and visions. His father, a pastor that lost his faith and struggled to recover it, was not a good example. A recipe to psychosis.
Jung was strongly attracted to Freud's ideas and concepts. He went to Vienna to meet Freud for the first time, and the meeting, is said to have lasted more than eight hours. Not only was Jung attracted to Freud's ideas, but Freud was also highly impressed by his young visitor. Freud considered Jung to be his successor. When they parted their ways Jung felt as if he had lost a second father, as though the ground under his feet had disappeared. He entered a difficult period and, to survive, to keep his sanity, he had to perform a heroic deed.
Every afternoon, after keeping a normal working life attending clients, Jung would close himself in his office and do what today is known as Active Imagination. (explained in Would you like to talk to your demons? [...] )
This process went intensely from 1913 to 1917, but continued until 1930, for 17 years - a process of self analysis and therapy - described by Jung in the "Red Book" that, in addition to his importance for psychology, is a lovely work of art with handmade drawings and the writing in beautiful drawn letters.
In this book, Jung talked with his "daimons" and registered the conversations, the first systematic example of Active Imagination.
Later on he stated that all his further work, his concepts and methods, derived from this period, were the seeds of his entire oeuvre were planted.
The "Red Book" is not an easy book, and, if you are not familiar with Jung's ideas, you may have a difficult time to understand it. But, to give you an idea of the depth of Jung's struggle to free himself from his latent psychosis, I suggest you browse through a few pages of his work of art. In the store you can browse at some pages of the "Red Book", and have a glimpse at Jung's major work.

This is a great translation of Carl Jung's diary - which he used as a resource for his other writings. It is easier to understand without the technical language required by academic papers. The book itself is beautiful and an amazing addition to our eclectic library. If you ever wanted to learn the thought processes and fleshed-out ideas that brought Jung to his conclusions, this book tells it all.

I recommend this book not just because it deals with the formative mind explorations of Carl Jung but it is also an excellent piece of publishing. This is an item that will give pleasure and also be thought provoking for the rest of your life. Absolutely first-class. A+++++

I have not finished the book yet, but looking forward to it for a long time, it will not disappoint. Everything I read from Jung was worth the time. This is the first time I see the Red Book at a decent price, ofcourse it does not have the artwork in it, but that is okay. Maybe one day I can find a deal for the facsimile ! In the meanwhile I will read the text. So far it is fascinating.

I love C. G. Jung, especially his work on archetypes. He was the forerunner to continued great works by Myers, Briggs, and David Keirsey. The red book is an awesome piece although expensive. A solution for this is the "Liber Novus - A Readers Edition", which contains all the text, but just lacks the original artwork, and mandalas.

This is very helpful to have this reader's edition alongside The Red Book as I study. It is the text without the illustrations, so I can keep my Red Book open to an illustration and not have to flip back and forth in the larger book.

A sublime and valuable book, that permits one to travel alongside Jung on his personal journey in his experiences with the Unconscious.
In this Liber Novus Jung describes his struggles, his doubts and achievement in his journey of Individuation in calligrapher handwriting and with many illustrations.
The English translation is correct, with clear references to the original pages.
In my opinion, the Liber Novus is a must to appear on the bookshelves of those who are in possession of Jung’s other works.

I also have the full illustrated version and I can assure I will never be taking the full tome out of the house as it weighs over ten pounds and is something like 16" x 12" x 2" - huge. The Readers version is a must if you plan to actually read it.

This book is a witness to the profound honor Jung gave to his inner world and I find that inspiring. This is the most beautiful book I have ever bought. This is a book to ponder slowly. The colors are stunningly rich. The writings come from a deeply mystical place in Jung. It is a treasure.

My thanks to the family for allowing this book to be published. I have it that the translation of the dreams into English is excellent. The illustrations and the copy of the original script are wonderful to behold. This giant tome of a book is well worth having.

Familiarity with The Red Book and its contents are mandatory for anyone
who is seriously studying Jung.
The visual elements by Jung and all of the accompanying text are beautifully rendered
and make this a work of art as well as the seminal work from which all the rest of Jung emanates.

I've seen the oversize impressive Jungian Red Book and spent time reading it and looking at the art work. This reader's edition is what I was wishing for when reading the huge oversize book (and a huge price tag). This was a great purchase for under $25.

This book is AMAZING--better than I could have hoped. The illustrations are vibrant and the enormity of the book adds to it's novelty. This makes the perfect addition to any Psychologist's collection.
