This novel takes Maisie in a new direction working with MI6 and becoming closer to James. It is well written and again skilfully evokes the era between the wars and the lifestyles of the various social classes that Maisie moves in. I hope all of the series will soon be available to purchase for the Kindle reader.

I highly recommend A Lesson in Secrets - another book from Ms. Winspear's Maisie Dobbs' series. I thoroughly enjoy her writing, the intriguing, main character, Maisie Dobbs, and the narratives of all her books. Most of all, I love the way each book tells a totally new, fresh and engaging story. Also, each new plot complements Miss Dobbs' ever evolving character as a person, and her expertise as a professional private investigator/psychologist. I also enjoy Ms. Winspear's concise yet very imaginative and visual style of writing. You won't be disappointed by yet another very engaging and entertaining book from Ms. Winspear.

As I follow the life and adventures of Maisie Dodd I continue to enjoy her pluck as she encounters sometimes strange situations and manages to get out of them. She has an interesting cast of characters and juggles their lives and hers. I always look forward to
her next release.

Ms Winspear writes a great story again, as is the case of the previous 7 books. I would recommend the entire series to anyone who wants leisure reading with a good post war perspective in the England of the 1930's. It is in a humanistic tradition and grabs my attention from the get go. I will be sorry to finish this series and hope she comes out with a new one soon.

This is the latest in the Winspear series about Maisy Dobbs. She is enchanting, warm and incredibly smart. The situations she gets herself into are unique and she has a great way to handle them. Every interaction with Maisie is fun. Anyone who loves post WWII fiction or wants a mild mystery to occupy their mind will love this

In a addition to interesting, a bit exciting. Winspear's talent for making us see & feel the actions, feelings, & scenes is outstanding.
But is James Crompton coming back to Maise? Is there undercover doings at the college? What fun this book is. Enjoy!

I liked this Maise Dobbs better than any since the first one. Maise is asked to investigate a small college in her old college town of Cambridge which leads her to exploring teaching and learning to live without her mentor. Once again the "side characters" of Billy, Frankie, and Priscilla shine. I heartily recommend ALesson in Secrets.

So enjoyed this novel. What a great writer. just finished the next book of Winspear and even better. So nice to get away from a slash and Burn mystery and just read a good story with humor, British old fashioned language and a surprise ending.

All of Winspear's books have unique plots; this one is no exception. Her characters are usually one of a kind. She doesn't hurry things; she allows the plot to slowly wend its way to the conclusion. Keep offering her novels.

This book is an excellent look at life in England during the span of time from World War One to World War Two. The viewpoint is from our Lady Sleuth, Maisie Dobbs a 30's-ish woman trying to make it out in the world while helping her country re-build itself.
Maisie is approached by the duo of Scotland Yard's Special Branch and the Secret Service to work undercover. From her 'position' as a lecturer of Philosophy at a Cambridge University, Maisie is unnerved to learn of a debate between the universities regarding the rising of Nazi sympathizers and college students. Maisie is sent to learn if there are activities "Not in the interest of His Majesty's government."
Also, something is going on involving her old friend, Sandra. With the murders of Sandra's husband, Eric and the President of the University, Greville Liddicote. Maisie finds her plate full. It is a tense time in London, and Cambridge and tension between Pacifists and Nationalists grows even more strong.

Someone recommended this series of books to me so I started with the first Maisie Dobbs novel and fell in love. It was a history lesson of the first world war and the social life of England as well as the genesis of a young lady psychologist, detective and developing human being. We see the development of social consciousness in England and the effects of war on all. I then read all 11 novels in a very short time and look forward to The White Lady to be published in the future. I was sad when I finished the series. Get to know Maisie Dobbs, you will like her.

I am an admitted fan of this series. Maisie Dobbs appears in each new book as an old friend with whom I am anxious to reconnect and discover her latest activities. These books fit well into those relaxing moments of my life that I continue to cherish. A wonderful read for the beach or a cold winter day before the fire.

Maisie Dobbs has become a friend. I've enjoyed her story from the beginning. This is a wonderful series. In this book she's working under cover for the Secret Service. Hitler is starting to make his mark in Germany. And, many are not paying attention.

The characters have become friends. I find the stories engaging but a fast read. They inform the reader about the life of the times but do not dwell on the personal ugliness of war. Just what I need at the moment!

Interesting plot with her characteristic twist at the end. And good continued development of Maisie and James' relationship. While still good, this wasn't the most interesting of the series. Recommended for those who enjoy following Maisie from case to case.

I have loved Maisie Dobbs since she first appeared. The writer is so accomplished and such a good storyteller.
Maisie is what I would have loved to have been. An early-on girl mystery solver. All of her books are fabulous.
And so is this one! I would recommend it to everyone. Thanks, the store!!

My next-to-favorite Maizie Dobbs yet (first place belongs to the first one, entitled MAIZIE DOBBS.) I like the theme of pacifism which underlies the mystery. As in most of the series, though, I find a slight weakness in the denouement of the mystery due to a factor of reader disbelief (not thoroughly convincing the reader of the probability of events.)
