As with all of the preceding Discworld books (I'm reading them in publication-date order), this one is filled with humor, clear parallels to our own world, and wonderful philosophical comments.

Terry's books contain enough thought-provoking philosophical statements to fill a separate, probably rather large book on their own. A separate volume could be made from the laugh-inducing conversations and similes.

I always love Death books - and this was good. Susan is a very interesting logical character who struggles to fit her absolutely not logical and easily explained family into her world view. And enter the new thing - Music with Rocks in it.

4 stars for the book, which is funny and interesting but not among the great Discworld novels.

2 stars for the text quality, which was clearly a cheap scan of the paper book that nobody bothered to proofread.

For some reason they changed the formatting of Death's dialog from previous Discworld books, even though it's the same publisher. It used to be printed in a small caps font that fit in well with the rest of the book, now it is big ALL CAPS formatting that jumps out of the page and is a little overwhelming.

This is the 8th or 9th Discworld book I've read and the others were better, the characters were more developed.

Terry Pratchett always has exciting mysteries popping up from the Disc World. The way he writes ensnares the reader to keep going until you're up 'til 3am still reading. Trying to put the book down is difficult because finishing the end of the paragraph isn't safe enough to stop, especially if you catch a glance at the next line of the following paragraph. The hilarity and excitement is endless!

Because of its references to East Asian culture, I gave this to numerous professors in college because I studied Japanese language and culture (although you will find that Chinese culture is the primary reference point for this book). Probably none of them appreciated it but, as I am socially awkward and struggle with the idea that smart, functional human beings might not take pleasure in the same things I do, I continued to gift it. This continues the saga of Rincewind and brings back Cohen the Barbarian. It is lovely and enjoyable and, in its own way, harkens to the conclusions of Orwell's Homage to Catalonia. Naturally you should read all the Discworld novels up to this point before indulging, because you should read all of them. The book can be read as a standalone but you will find a deeper pleasure in the later Pratchett novels if you take the journey from the beginning.

A tale of epic struggles with plenty of social comment and a great sense of humour. Cohen the Barbarian, Rincewind the wizzard and bad tempered salient luggage take on an ancient empire. I didn't want to put it down and thoroughly recommend it!

I keep waiting to read a Discworld book and say, "Eh. Could have been better." Still waiting. Pratchett is a wonderful storyteller. As a musician, I have a particular fondness for the characters in this story. I have read stories about musicians in which it's clear the author has no clue about music or what it's like to be a musician, but Pratchett "gets it". The subplot which gives the backstory about Death's granddaughter Susan is good, and doled out in a way that keeps the reader's interest. Good read.

This was about my 12th or 14th Pratchett novel. I enjoyed it and enjoy his all of his story lines but prefer the character development in Night Watch to that of Interesting Times. As are most of the plots involving the reocurring character Rincewind, there is lots of escaping, vicious villans and amazing magical events that keep your attention. This one spoofed revolutions, revolutionaries and Asian culture. Cohen the Barbarian and the silver hoarde were quite refreshing and represented a style of working man's thinking that has almost died out. This was an good read and up to to Pratchett's usual quality.

Discovered T.P. later than most. Instanty fell in love. This one is great. Susan the grand daughter of death rides again! Hilarious story with wizards, rock n roll(well..."music with rocks in it"), groupies, bars, bouncers, leather..er...robes, and of course The Death of Rats, Quoth the raven and Binky the horse. Born to Rune indeed.

Terry Pratchett is as amazing as always, but do NOT purchase this for Kindle. The book is riddled with typos and changes in scene mid paragraph without even a line break. I found several parts where entire sections had been placed into the middle of other ones. One conversation was interrupted by an unrelated scene and resumed several pages later. This edition is a hodge-podge, and I hope the publisher takes the time to do it. The whole thing could be fixed in an hour by an intern with a word processor.

This is a stage adaptation of the Prachett book. I am unsure why it comes first in a searcch for "interesting times" in the kindle store, but go back to your search results and look lower for the real thing.

The novel itself, while not necessarily my favorite work by Pratchett - is excellent. The Kindle version of this book is, unfortunately, horribly typeset on my device. There's no indication that a point-of-view change is happening, normally I would expect a double carriage return or some other divider. This makes it pretty difficult to keep track of what is happening, as the point-of-view changes frequently.

The book itself is excellent but there are no blank lines to indicate when it switches between groups of characters. It's irritating and there's no reason for a problem like that. On top of that, the links to the footnotes are sometimes wrong.
