I’ve read every single book in the Until series. Of course, like anything, the first few books are the best, but it seems like the last few books just get more and more unoriginal.
I’m a little disappointed that I pay full price, but the books seem to be much shorter now than the first several books were. They’re almost in between a novella and a full length novel. I could even count that as a bonus if it meant only a few months between books, but I don’t understand why it takes so long to get a new book out since it seems like they’re pretty short. (Yes, I know writing takes time, but a book half the length should take half the time.).
Leaving that aside, I always look forward to Reynolds’ books, if that’s not clear by the fact that I was waiting until the date this book was released and read it all in a few hours. I know the characters, and it feels like moving on from the previous story in a continuation of the characters’ lives.
Now onto the actual content. Sadly, it’s much the same as the last few books. I don’t mind the damsel in distress ending; call me old fashioned, but I like that or else I wouldn’t be reading ARR books. It’s just that the story was completely and utterly predictable. You know who the bad guy was from the first meeting, you know what would happen, you know exactly what their reactions will be. Really, the only thing that you don’t know what’s going to happen in the book are the day to day happenings of the characters. Which, really, started to get a little boring because it was just filler space, no real significance. I found myself really just looking forward to seeing who would be introduced as the characters for the next book. I think it would’ve been more interesting to give it a little twist (spoiler) and make it more about them fighting the doctor legally with his assault and sexual harassment and getting support from other women victims to do that with. That would’ve made it both more realistic, and also that would make it different and something unexpected for ARR. It could be done in such a way that if they still want the damsel in distress distress ending that something could’ve happened in the end physically, if Reynolds wanted. A twist would give something more to make up the book instead of just eating, having sex, talking about clothing or decorating the house, and going to work, which is pretty much what the most of the book is about. Filler, filler, filler. I know she needs to show them getting to know one another and falling in love, but I feel like It could be done in such a way that it’s not so redundant like all the books before. If you’re going to have suspense, really make it suspenseful.
As far as the characters go, I feel like Harmony was realistic. I liked her because she had both positives and negatives like a real person. I don’t really remember any detailed physical description of her. It wasn’t really clear to me exactly what she look like. As far as Harlan goes, there were some description of him in the beginning, again not super detailed. He seems to kind of look mostly like what the other male characters that she writes, rough but not too rough not to be good looking, big and muscular. I wish there was a better description of both for readers to really be able to picture them well. There’s the cover, but it’s profile; and covers don’t always look like the characters anyway. I feel like there were much better descriptions of their clothes and their home decor than the actual characters themselves.
I didn’t dislike Harlan, but there wasn’t really anything that set him apart from her other heroes either. He was the type of Alpha that I like though. One that is strong enough to stand by what he believes in and at times not back down when he wants her to do something he thinks is best, but he was also considerate, reasonable, and loving towards her. Thankfully that’s one thing that Aurora Rose Reynolds does well and that’s a hero that’s alpha but at the same time loving.
(Spoiler) Lastly, I didn’t like that there was zero mention from Harmony or Harlan about Hadley at the end. She saved Harmony’s life, yet they went over, verbally and mentally what happened several times without one thought to her. Clearly she’s the heroine in Until Codi, but even so, how annoying.
All in all, I hope Reynolds can see this and take from it a few things:
Make the books more full length or else have no more than 6 months between them.
Be more descriptive in the characters physically.
Try to add more suspense/not predictability or else approach the drama from a different perspective than physical abduction/assault.
Try to make the characters personalities differ, meaning cross-book characters. I feel like the heroes and sometimes heroines could be interchangeable their personalities:habits are so similar.
All in all, I still really like Reynolds and, more importantly, the Mayson family. I just hope more readers speak up and that she listens.

I would recommend this book to Reynold fans. Especially if you've a fan. I like most the respect and loyalty Harlen has for Harmony. It is enlightening and refreshing to read these characteristics in a couple.
