This book is just fabulous. An easy, breezy, can't put it down, fun to read, heart stopping, life or death, happy and sad, drama filled ride. LOVED it. I just thoroughly enjoyed Matt's writing style. Can't imagine how awesome his bedside manner might be. Hope he writes more very soon!

A great read - Matt McCarthy is a great writer who engagingly unfolds his story of becoming a great doctor. The book is thrilling, terrifying, funny, exciting, mind boggling, touching and genuinely moving. I teared up at the end. I didn't want it to end!

A great insight into the world of being an intern in today's medicine.
I thought the writing style was just right and it felt like I was there.
I also liked the way he put in episodes in which failure happened, and not just gloss over those occurrences.

Overall. this is a book for anyone who wants to know what the future physicians of America go through on their way to becoming fully-fledged doctors.

Great book. While there are many accounts of what it is like to be a doctor, Matt manages to pull it together in a very real, touching and heart-warming way. Instead of a matter-of-fact account which lacks a similar empathy.

This book gives you a true insight into an intern's life. I felt like I was at the hospital with Matt and I liked that Benny received a heart ❤️Anyone that likes medicine would enjoy this book. I gave this book a five star rating because it made me realize some doctors really do care about their patients. I wish we had more of them.

Having spent more than my fair share in the intensive unit care unit at Johns Hopkins as a patient and family member of a patient I found this book remarkedly comforting. You often see the seemingly bedraggled young doctors and wonder if they are any more than autotrons going through repetitive tasks; this book dispels that notion. Learning about overwhelming insecurities isn't necessarily comforting but shows a compassion that seldom comes through in the brief encounters with doctors during rounds. I had my ticket punched three years ago for the "lucky to be alive club" and often wonder about those faces that are now only a blur and how their careers are progressing. Before criticizing doctors or our health care system, read this book. It re-enforced my belief that we in this country are fortunate to have the best trained doctors in the world's best hospitals.

This is an amazing book! It caught my attention in the first few pages and I just can't stop. I'm in medicine but still feel that it's a very enjoyable read, and it's built for the non-medical reader.

Author gives the reader an interesting and engaging insight into the experience of intern doctors. I have a particular interest as the mother of a medical student and I have recommended this book to my son.

An exceptional story. For anyone in the field of medicine wondering what exactly happens during that first intern year and why they make some of the decisions they do (nurses, midlevels, RT's I'm talking to you) you'll gain some good insight on what they're going through.

The only negative I have about the story is it drags a bit during the last third of the book, seems to be a bit of filler and not a lot of interesting stories and mishaps like the first half.

Dr McCarthy is an exceptional writer and really brings you into the hospital with him on his journey as a first year.

An extraordinary and humorous memoir written by a doctor in training at a teaching hospital in New York City. When you are next a patient and a pod of people in white coats circle your bed and ask you questions you've answered many times before, you will understand why they are asking those questions and what the pod is thinking. Your understanding of the training process from beginning intern to 2nd year resident grows right along with the main character, Dr. Matt McCarthy. Interesting and a fun, an easy read!!
