Pema Chodron is a true practitioner .Happiness , peace start when we come closer to our discomfort ,be with our discomfort with gentleness .Not running away to somewhere peaceful and nice .When discomforts arise is the moment we can change our old habits of reacting , anger , jealousy etc .

Centering. Wonderful addition to meditative practice. Pema Chodron is a truly wise woman who will encourage you to look deeply at who you are and how to deal with discomfort and the places that scare you.

This book has really helped me connect with myself. I've struggled with many things like most adults: career, friends, relationships, etc. Although I am not a Buddhist (I am a practicing Christian), I could relate to many of Chödrön's teachings. Her explanations are clear and to the point. And much of what she says challenged me to hunk about how I can find more peace in a world that is pulling me in so many directions. With this book I have the blueprint for understanding how to maintain inner peace and joy.

I really was looking forward to this book based on other reviews. I found it difficult to grasp and felt that I should be taking notes to keep track of the themes. I finally stopped reading about 60% through. I am sure if you are buddist monk, you can fly though this book and it makes sense. But it just wasn't working for this retired aerospace engineer.

Saw me through divorce. It brought me to a place of no right, no wrong, but some acceptance and ease.
It brings together many viewpoints and techniques we've been taught since childhood, but taught without perspective and purpose. I continue to refer to this book whenever I am stressed or tense.

I so enjoy Pema Chodron's writing. She offers lots of "how to" suggestions to face and heal fear. In this book, she has shared her personal fear experiences and clearly brings the reader to the understanding that it is "the fear" that humanity is experiencing not just an individual's fear. We are healing together because we are One .

She always brings me to this moment...and I become grateful and calm and excited with limitlessness. She's like an older sister who takes my hand and says, "You're okay". Thank you for helping all of us. We're so lucky to have you.

It has its unique way of saying things, but sounds very much like a series of inspirational talks put together in a book. I have read a few others and have found them to include more and pull things together a little better, but nonetheless it was a good, short read.

Even if you aren't necessarily interested in buddhist teachings, Chodron breaks it down in a way that will appeal to both secular and non secular readers. The stressing of mindfulness and facing our fears is pertinent for anyone. Easily one of my favorite books. The writing style is engaging, clear, concise and inspirational.
