Another entertaining story in James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux series. A colorful cast of characters with all their flaws and decency mixed in together with hard edge action taking place in two distinct, beautiful settings in America. Recommended.

James Lee Burke has a way with words that captivate you from the first sentence. The first page of this book will have your heart racing towards the end! Will Patton has to be from Louisiana.He has a natural southern draw I have been hearing all my life. Very good Book!!

James Lee Burke has done it again. He consistently grabs you immediately grabs your attention and takes you on a touching, yet suspenceful thrill ride. With each story, we learn a little more about Dave's complexities.

Ghosts; memories; a frame-up; with enough death to satisfy a geedy funeral director, all this in Burke's inimitable style. I have read several other Burke-Robicheaux novels and this one rates in the bottom half of "My Favorites". It is definitely worth a read but the action gets a bit confused and there is not much of a mystery in this"mystery" novel.

If you want to read his best work turn to "In the Electric Mist With Confederate Dead".

force of Cajun reality from Mr. Burke. He never fails to engage and envelop his reader in the sweet and dangerous world of this region in all its color. This story sets us right on the abyss where right and wrong lose all meaning for this highly ethical man struggles to survive. His connection with nature is breathtaking. Strong poetry binds us to his world. A truly satisfying read.
