I have enjoyed this whole series. The story and characters all drew me in. This book however, had so much history in it, that it became boring to read. I hate when I feel that I need to skim over large portions of the story. It was just too repeticious for my liking. I understand that some people might read this bood without reading the rest of them, but because of the complexity of the story, it made reading this particular book tedious.

Great, Great, Great. These books need to be read by all fanatics-subjects of any order, dogma, ideology, religion, political persuasion, creed, military indoctrination, martial order or any philosophical understanding. It's better than the bible, which simply means a collection of books, and which is not sacred nor written by some god. These books by Terry Goodkind, talk about reading a history of how us humans destroy so much, unnecessarily, whether they be vegan, vegetarians or meatarians, or the self claimed green-eco-arians, and all their crude self righteousness. We have killed out our own magic... through wanting to be accepted by some small group of like minded others, that we end by being separatist to all others, to kill, to condescend, to intimidate from what we think we know is better or best. The greatest destruction today throughout humanity is the playing field of politicians of all belief systems, from democracy, republican, communist, nationalist, socialist, etc because everyone of these systems is a suppression through capitalism. Rich always get richer, poor always get poorer. Those in any power, ANY, never know how to help build up others so they can stand on their own. NEVER. The example of Richard in these books is stunning, a pure unadulterated warrior for life. All of the religious-political orders today need to cut out the crap. We all need to read our human history and start changing it for life.

Well written, kept me from wanting to put it down. Saw the tv series first always find books better. This just finished the story for me. Really think anyone would enjoy. Suggest you read other books in series first, or find Legend of the seeker on net flicks .

I enjoyed Wizards First rule very much. After reading the other books, I begin to think Goodkind was a one hit wonder. I finally plodded thru this peice of work and felt like I had been Conned. The ending was the MOST poorly thought out conclusiom imaginable. Richard's Great Love saved All who loved him, and cast off all who did not ( because they "naturally" were full of hate). He seems like one of these overzealous anti-religious fanatics who lumps all who do not think like him into one discriminate pile, then makes them the misguided evil of the book. What a sick, sorry ending.

The book fills in the earlier history that caused all the twist and turns in the stories already experienced. Terry Goodkind's imagination took me on another impossible roller coaster that finally resolves as the macro story evolves and grows with potential detail for more adventures.

Five novels at the very most. I only started this novel because I had invested so much tome in the series that I really wanted to see what kind of conclusion Goodkind would bring it to, but was surprised to find that this was one of the best out of the last 5 or 6 books. Finally some of the story line progressed and there was some action.
