Second book of the series. This one picks up where Earth Alone lets off: Marco and his buddies go to space to meet the scum head on. It examines 'class structure' in the military a bit and muses that prejudice takes a LOT more than a couple generations to kill off.

Quick synopsis, minimum spoilers: Marco and his unit get posted to the front lines, but the starship taking them there diverts to answer an old distress call from a major mining colony that seems to have fallen off the grid. The ship crashlands at the colony, and the survivors take an express elevator to Hell. The standing questions of 'Who broke the bright shiny new starship?' and 'Who is the scum plant?' get answered at the end, and it was from a source I didn't see coming a mile away. Kudos for that.

What got me the most is, Marco's musings that you just can't go home again after military service rang true in my case. Yes, you CAN go home, but it's not the 'you' that left. Everything has changed. And that, I think, is Dan's point, that military service (especially combat service) WILL change you, but you DON'T have to lose your humanity in the process.

Anxiously awaiting Book 3, due later this summer.

After reading the first book I had to immediately get the second book to see what happens next. I usually read more Fantasy novels, but once I started reading this book I just could not put it down. This is one of the best series I have read.

Doggone it ...... it ended too soon. Great fast read. I ordered Book 3 before the Kindle could cool off. This series is a wonderful way to escape into another time and place. It is going to be extremely sad when I finish the book................ :-(
The White Fleet (Blood on the Stars Book 7) :: The Lost Fleet: Beyond the Frontier: Steadfast :: Star Carrier (Lost Colonies Trilogy Book 3) :: Relentless (The Lost Fleet, Book 5) :: Dauntless (Blood on the Stars Book 6)

The problem I have with Daniels books is they are rather well written in terms of being able to feel like I'm in the story. Only to constantly be taken out of it by plot inconsistencies and repeated points.

Entertaining, but too short. The history is almost a Carbon Copy of the Starship Troopers script. Worth the price for the digital version but don't expect too much. The other 2 books in the trilogy have the same issues, although the third and last one is remarkably more fun.
