It's alright. There isn't that many cool "expirements" you can do that you never really knew to begin with. My son is 1 now and I only actually tried about 10 of the expirements mentioned. This is more of a gift you would get for a new dad who doesn't know anything about babies. He would think this is the most amazing book ever, and you would seem like the coolest friend!

There's a ton of cool new research on the inner thoughts of babies...when they develop a sense of morality, etc. I was hoping for more of those types of experiments. While there's definitely some of those types of experiments, there are also filler "experiments" which aren't particularly interesting - especially on newborns like "if you turn the baby's head, he will extend his arm out." Congrats, you just performed the fencing reflex. That being said, if you're a new parent or not familiar with the psychology of babies, it's still something to do besides singing "Old McDonald" for the thousandth time. The format is clear and easy to follow with age at which the experiment should be performed, the difficulty of the experiment and the takeaway. The experiments should get more interesting as the baby gets older so I'll continue using this book but maybe supplement with experiments I see on TED talks.

I gave this to my nephew as a baby shower gift. He is a scientist and the guys usually get left out in baby showers. Everyone in my (very large) family had to fight to read part of it. It is actually serious science and informative about developmental stages and behaviour but written very tongue in cheek. I think some of the grandmas were going to buy it just to read and laugh.

This gift was much appreciated. It was mainly for the parents of a one-year-old. She is clearly too young for this book but my reasoning was that I wanted to gear my sentiments toward two extremely conscientious parents who I believe will be involved enough to actually use this. I know they feel inclined to teach their daughter to use her brains along with enjoying her other obvious attributes.

Enjoy

I buy this book for all of my baby-having friends! I'm childless by choice and this book encapsulates my "you have an alien growing in your body" sense of humor and my nerd-ism, releases me from the stress of trying to find cute kid stuff, all while being a truly stand-out gift!

Bought this for a friend of mine who's expecting. This book is great - it presents information from various scientific studies in a way that's digestible and entertaining, while showing you how to re-produce those same experiments in your own home.
I like that the experiments are categorized by the age range of the child (e.g., 0-1 month) and difficulty level of the experiment. I also like how each chapter is separated into clear, easy-to-follow sections (e.g., "The Hypothesis" and "The Takeaway").

Fun book. Got it for a friend's baby shower and people got a kick out of it. Teaches parents a bit about child development through short, easy activities they do with their infant. Real science but easy to read and easy experiments.

Not what I was expecting and that maybe my fault. I was thinking it was a book that would have fun cause and effect type things like "bend your baby's foot and watch him do this. That is the blahblahblah reflex." Or do this and notice how he will turn towards the light etc. It was super scientific and really was to overwhelming at first glace. This maybe better suits for super serious science geeks.

What a great book to work with my grandkids. These experiments are fun for me & my daughter to do with Addie. It's amazing what we have learned from doing a few. I hope to continue with a few more within the next few weeks. The author has made this easy & fun for us.
