Nothing stays calm or safe in Morganville for long. Claire and her friends may have tried to get back into the swing of things, but before long, Claire finds herself forced to overwork herself developing a new defense system for Morganville at the command of Amelie. Despite nearly succumbing to exhaustion, she is successful, and Morganville is as safe from outside threats as the rest of the world is from Morganville's vampires. But Claire's improvements seem to have an unpleasant side effect: the people of Morganville are slowly losing their memories, both the vampires and the humans. Claire needs to figure out how to reverse the effects and save the residents of Morganville from this madness before she forgets how to save herself.

Ghost Town is the ninth installment in the Morganville Vampires series. Although I still believe that Caine's vampire stories make for one of the better young adult vampire series, by now it seems that Morganville is past its prime. Caine is undoubtedly skilled at creating an exciting and fast paced plot and has done a wonderful job of developing the complexities of the setting and the characters, but by the ninth book, everything about Morganville has lost much of its novelty. Ever since the grand finale of Carpe Corpus, I feel that the quality of the Morganville story has decreased. Ghost Town is satisfying in that protagonist Claire encounters new and unusual dangers, but it's not quite new enough to recapture my attention in the way that the fiasco with Bishop did.

Ghost Town will still be enjoyed by big fans of the Morganville Vampires series.

Claire and Myrnin managed to fix the computer that controls the security in Morganville. (It runs the portals and barriers around the town that "erase" the memories of people who leave town.) Everything's going so well at the beginning of the book. In fact, that is my reason for a 4-star rating instead of a 5-star. It seemed to take a while before things really got rolling, but once they did, I couldn't put it down! Claire starts noticing people behaving strangely, which is really something to be said for Morganville. People are wandering around, forgetting where they're going and looking for people/buildings that are long gone. Claire just knows it has something to do with the computer she and Myrnin built, but Myrnin's also acting very strange and won't even let Claire near the computer. She enlists the help of her friends, but before long, Eve, Michael, Shane, and Amelie have all fallen prey to the amnesia working its way through Morganville. Somehow, Claire has to convince them to help her destroy the computer. She receives help from an unlikely source: Frank Collins, Shane's dad, who proves he's not such a bad ally after all.

Morganville isn't the same since Ada and the computer system failed. Claire and Myrnin have been trying to fix the problem. But Claire gets herself into trouble.

Eve attends a party in an abandoned warehouse and she's in danger. Claire, Shane, and Michael run to her rescue. A fight ensues between the vampires and the locals, and Claire ends up killing a vampire. According to town law, the punishment for killing a vampire is death.

Amelie gives her a choice: settle the town's problem or hang in a cage in the town square. Claire chooses to fix the problem. She can't rest until it's solved - she completes the device.

However, in the days to follow, she realizes that something is drastically wrong when people begin losing chunks of their memory. The town becomes deadly once again - even in the daytime. Claire doesn't know what she can do, but she realizes it's up to her to fix the machine before it's too late.

GHOST TOWN delivers another amazing installment of this dangerous, action-packed series about loyalty, friendship, and love.

After only trying to protect herself, Claire is in deep trouble. Amelie, faced with angry vampires is trying to make things right for everyone. Claire is punished by sentence to work, with no sleep, no breaks, until she gets the machine working again. After it is done, things start to go haywire. Was this fair? Well no, it is not fair. Claire has been helping Morganville since day one and now they want her help even more but without any breaks or sleep. Things went crazy with the people. They were forgetting who they were and they forgot Claire. The end of the book people died and things were put into place but with some odds and ends. I give this book 4.5 stars.

After reading the last book in this series I really thought they were heading downhill. That wouldn't be unusual. Look at the Sookie Stackhouse books. They aren't as good as they once were. BUT... after reading this book I'm happy to say that things are looking up again. This book was great! And even better yet, there was much more Myrnan in this book. (He's by far my favorite character.) I think I'm starting to like all of the vampire characters better than Claire! They are unique and I'd love to hear more back story on them. This is a quick read and OMG when you get to the end... there is an ending in store that I don't think anyone will say was predictable.

I don't think there would be a problem if you read this book first or as a standalone but do yourself a favor and start with the first book. It's been so much fun to watch the characters grow and follow along with them!

I thought the series was over! Yet Caine pulls another twist on us. The characters are finally enjoying themselves and even enjoying Morganville, despite the vampires. Then when a rave goes bad (that Eve is attending) and Claire, Michael, and Shane show up to help. Things go to worse when even Claire kills a vampire in self defense and the vampires turn this on Claire in order to force her to solve the town's computer problems. claire does, but then the townspeople begin to loose their memories, including the crazy Myrnin (whom I just adore in this series).

Each book has been just a joy to read. This one was a bit longer than the previous books. I usually enjoy a larger book to read, but I have to admit I got use to the quick well worded books from before. I highly recommend this series, but they MUST be read in order to the reader would be completely confused.

There are no ordinary days in Morganville, Texas. The town is run by vampires, humans pay taxes in the form of blood donations and no one leaves town unless the Elder Council says they can - and unless their memories of the vampires are erased. Still, things in Morganville are as ordinary as they ever get right now, with one exception. Since the preserved vampire brain that oversaw Morganville's perimeter defenses (killing car engines, wiping memories, that kind of thing) went homicidally insane, Morganville has had open borders. That makes the vampires in Morganville edgy, and edgy vampires are not good at all for the humans that most of them regard as little more than meals on foot. It's up to human Claire Danvers and her mad scientist vampire boss Myrnin to get the perimeter defenses up and running again - and to do it as soon as possible.

Just when Claire thinks things are relatively okay (meaning she and Myrnin have got the machine operating properly again and no one she loves is in immediate danger of a gruesome death) something really freaky starts happening - freaky by Morganville standards, which is never good. Humans and vampires start to lose their memories, some vampires even forget that they are vampires. Claire realizes the new machine must be wiping memories inside the town, instead of just at the boundaries. The problem is, no one who can help her remembers Claire. And Myrnin? Well, Myrnin has reverted to his previous self - which means he's full-on crazy with a side of sadistic torturer to boot. If Claire can't turn the machine off soon, she won't remember what she's trying to do and all of Morganville could be destroyed in a bloodbath of epic proportions.

I LOVE the Morganville Vampire novels. There are no emo, angsty vampires here. All of them, even the one or two you might like or trust, are dangerous predators, just like you would expect a vampire to be. Morganville books are always entertaining, with intricate and twisting plot lines and great action, but what keeps me coming back for more are the characters. Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael are the kind of friends I wish I had. Amelie and Oliver are scary, yet demand your respect. And Myrnin? Well let's just say I love to read about him, but wouldn't want to be locked up in a lab with him. If you think you're over vampire novels do yourself a favor and give the Morganville books a try. You might have a few nightmares, but you won't be sorry!

Every time I think Rachel Caine has written herself into a corner and can't possibly think of new ways to torture Claire and her friends, she proves me wrong. GHOST TOWN doesn't try to top the previous books by bringing in bigger and badder outside threats (really, what could be worse than Bishop?), instead she does something much scarier: she makes Claire watch helplessly as humans and vampires alike forget...everything.

At this point in the series I have certain expectations from a Morganville book: smart and snarky dialog, sweet romance, and helpless fury over the unjust treatment of humans. GHOST TOWN delivers all that and more. In a way, it's like a tabula rasa, a blank slate. We get to see Myrnin at the height of his insanity, Amelie as the formidable Founder she once was, and best/worst of all we see Shane forget and fall for Claire all over again.

Most series fizzle out long before reaching nine books. And fewer still reach that number with any kind of momentum. The Morganville Vampire series has twelve books planned so far and shows no sign of slowing down. I'll go so far as to say this series gets better with every book. KISS OF DEATH and GHOST TOWN being the best yet. I really hope that everything works out for the TV adaptation. The Morganville Vampire series already reads like it was made for television. Until then, I'll have to bear the wait like everyone else for the next book, BITE CLUB, due out in April 2011.

I love how Rachel Caine put's these stories together. There's nothing better then getting lost in her world.
So much has happened along the road in this series of books. She still can find more to add with out making it bland or boring. So I will tell you, This is one of my favriot series I have read during 2011 and I am looking forward to reading more of it. I hope if you havent got the chance to start on these wonderful books, that you will.
I find this one just as lovely as the others in this series.

~~ Recommended to Vampire Lovers, who like a little twist in the world.

Although the plot was enjoyable, I figured at the very end that I just knew what was going to happen. Boy, did I have that one wrong and I'm still whirling from it. With the town suffering a form of amnesia off and on, this book kept you guessing. I loved every minute of it.

Ghost Town wasn't my favorite episode in the Morganville Vampires story, but this series is so enjoyable that it still deserves 5 stars. I'm amazed this one hasn't gotten old yet, but Rachel Caine's got a big imagination and is keeping interest up.

The Morganville Vampires series is so great. I have loved reading all of the books. I love the characters, their personalities and their development throughout the series. I feel like I can picture them and their experiences. The books are well written and easy to read. So easy that I just bought this most recent book Ghost Town and finished it maybe in 1.5 days because I couldn't put it down. Already waiting for the next! I highly recommend these books to anyone that just enjoys escaping reality for a little while, has a great imagination and loves the idea of otherworldly people and events. My only complaint might be the price for the kindle but it was just released so that didn't stop me from purchasing it. I do think that since it's such a quick read that a lower price would be better.

Exceptional story. The main character, Spencer age 13, is full of life in a ghost town. His imagination brings the abandoned town to life through his camera lens and what he needs to survive the loneliness. Excellent story that reflects what's going on around you and how u need to look at it. What is your motto for your life?

Ghost Town is rocking in every which way. Caine is totally on point with this one, giving readers the right amount of action, drama, romance and suspense to keep us turning the pages obsessively. In a true act of genius, we get to re-live the first moments of the Shane/Claire, Michael/Eve romance all over again, without losing the intensity and connection between the characters that the series has worked so hard on developing.

My review isnt of the content, several lots of other people have done that. Rather it is specifically on the Kindle Edition.
At the time that I'm writing this, the kindle edition costs 10.99 and the hardcover 9.99
I love my kindle, and there are other benefits besides cost, but does the store really expect that anyone will buy this?
I certainly won't.
