This is a great, contemporary coming-out-story of a singer-songwriter and country western celebrity. Chely Wright's biography is beautifully written, deeply moving, and illustrates the pain many gays and lesbians experience when they are not accepted by their professional or personal communities. She challenges many stereotypes that are are culturally held about lesbians and her story is educational to all who read it, gay or straight. Heroic in the the risk and strides she takes to live openly and with integrity, her story is an inspiration to all who aspire to live their truth. I am a Marriage and Family Therapist and have already recommended it to a number of my clients.

I'm a record producer in Hollywood and I completely understand why Chely did not come out for years. It is a sacrifice that many Gays make to have a mainstream career in music. Having said that I am so glad that Chely did come out! I had never heard of her until I saw her on Oprah. I bought her book and then her recent CD; both are excellent!

If country music fans reject her, they will be turning their backs on a true artist! Her book explains her very long, sad, painful tale of hiding her sexual identity. Her CD drips with the same sincere emotion on every song. Nobody has written about or sung emotional pain better than Chely. WOW!

So Chely, thank you for coming out so people like me can know about you. :-)

This was an enjoyable read with a great message. The writing is not particularly great and it is a very easy read but that is something to be expected when reading an autobiography of a someone who isn't a writer. But overall it is a great book for anyone who is lgbtq or wanting to learn more about the community. It is a touchy story about reconciling ones faith with personal acceptance of identity. I definitely recommend it.

I thought I would be interested in her journey but wasn't, as it turned out. Good that she eventually was honest with herself, friends and fans; too bad so many of her fans are apparently homophobes. Gave this book away.

I found myself crying on an airplane reading this book. I did not want to put it down. I know this must have been extremely hard for her to write. I am glad she freed herself and told us her story. Thanks, Mrs. Wright!

We have always loved the music of Chely Wright. The book made me feel bad for her ... her career. It's amazing how intolerant the country music industry is ... especially if you pay attention and listen to some of the lyrics out there lately. Three stars as there were portions of the book that contained more detail that I needed to see the point.

This book is a personal journey towards accepting oneself. It is easy to read and interesting, but it also depicts the long road yet to be taken by our society when it comes to accepting diversity. I applaud Chely for her courage, I bought her book to support her after hearing her story at Ellen's show. I hope the book helps many others suffering as she did.

Thank you, Ms. Wright for your courage. And thank you for this statement, "Homosexuality does not make a person promiscuous, perverted, unprofessional, or without judgment." You are appreciated by many. <hugs>

I don't usually read celebrity autobiographies, but I was intrigued by this author's story. The book did not disappoint. It was a moving and extremely honest autobiography, well-written and well-edited.

I was disappointed with this book. I watched the documentary about her first, so maybe I spoiled it for myself. But, the book is written in a way that reads a bit like a junior high book report. I didn't get any additional insights from the documentary because the book is mostly 'first I did this', 'and then I did that' without much else. Since coming out was so difficult for her, she may feel as if she's revealed a lot about herself, but it didn't come across that way in the book.

Her story was a point-by-point, non-chronilogic description of her life. Though I appreciate what she's trying to say, I found it difficult to endure the manner in which she says it. For me, well written biographies pay respect to not only the story, but to the art of literature equally. Chely certainly expounded upon herself with success, but I feel as if she was speaking to a buddy in a bar, periodically interrupted with sidebar conversations, rather than trying to write an actual book. Grant it, I know being a writer is not her primary profession. However, I feel that if you're going to attempt a project such as this, a better understanding of the process and perhaps better editors should have been considered. There's clear room for improvement.

I've loved Chely Wright's music for a very long time. I was interested in learning more about her when I heard about this book. Ms. Wright's poignant and touching novel was a wonderful and heartbreaking read. There is authenticity and beauty in her words. If you want to know more, pick this up and learn what brought this woman the strength to let who she truly is shine through.

As someone who has struggled with my own sexual orientation, I found this book to be a heartfelt, articulate, fascinating and sometimes humorous account of coming to terms with ones own sexuality. I have never met Chely Wright and it has been years since I have been a fan of country music, but I walked away from this book feeling better about myself and having a deep admiration for the author's courage.

I highly recommend this book for everyone, whether you are someone who is struggling with your own sexual orientation or a heterosexual person who would like to better understand the struggles that homosexuals face while living in hiding and making the decision to come out of the closet.

Chely Wright tells a story about dreams, success, family, hiding, lying, and truth. It's a heart wrenching story of a country music star filled with ambition and secrets. Ambition and success win initially, and truth and love lose until they almost kill her. Her road to salvation is paved with regrets and a broken heart, but there is hope and redemption, and hopefully, a happy life to follow. Well written, you feel like you want to hug her and tell her it will be alright, and she will have fans and success regardless of her personal life, or maybe because of it.

Chely Wright, country singer and now author. I am amazed when someone inexperienced can sit down and write a book, but not just a book, this one is open, honest, heartfelt and marvelous. If you have struggled with any issue read this book and feel the honest pain. This is an incredible coming out book. Hard to believe she isn't an experienced author. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I was struggling with my sexual orientaion when I bought this book and after reading it I was able to come out to my parents. I always thought that there was no one "Like Me" here in my litte Southern town but now I know I'm not alone. Thank You Chely Wright for helping me see that.

I would definitely recommend this book! It was a very good read. Chely really poured her heart out with the struggles she went through keeping her secret. No one should have to live like that. Good for her finally coming out.
